 My family is looking for a good place to just "hang out" at the beach in Nassau. Does anyone have any recommendations? What are the best beaches for younger kids in terms of travel time, quality, and cost? Any info. would be helpful. Thanks.

We enjoy the beach at the British Colonial Hilton. It's a short walk from the ship. Beach is clean and not crowded. No vendors. There's also a pool and restaurant . Last year day passes were $10/adults and $5/kids,

Do you have to book the British Colonial Hilton ahead of time?

I just returned from Nassau last week. We walked over to the Hilton, and if you walk about 1 block past there is a public beach. The water is clear, the beach has a few rocks on it, but with 4 kids, for me this was a good choice(free).

I am confused. If the beach is free, why are the day passes required?

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my question! I have also seen a lot of people mention Blue Lagoon beach. Is this a beach you can do without an excursion (how?) and is it good for kids? Thanks in advance! :)

While the beaches are only separated by a cement wall, the day pass at the hilton allows you to use the pool and facilities if you choose. Other than that, its the same beach and water for free a block down

Do you have to reserve it ahead of time?
How far a walk is this from the ship?
My daughter wants to go to Atlantis for the day since we have not done that in the past even though we have been to Nassau quite a few times. It is expensive for the day there plus the cabs to get there and back... But I know we would both love the waterslides there.

They have beach chairs and a pool (not sure about waterslide). As far as I know, you do not have to make advance reservations just to use the pool and beach. Go to www.hilton.com or here is some more info

It is about a 5 minute walk from the ship through the straw market. I had 3 kids and it was no problem

Thanks for the websites.
Unless they moved the straw market since last month it was more than a 5 minute walk just to get to the market, more like 10 or 15 minutes. The sidewalks were VERY crowded the day we were there. How far is it beyond the straw market?
