Would it be cheaper to buy a Cat SS or buy an Cat A and let the cruise line upgrade me for a price?

If you are considering a SS you are looking at a Vista Class ship. If you want the SS your are best to book and pay for a SS, the chance of getting upgraded is very very slim. I don't think the Upgrade Fairy works that level that much.

Book the SS then monitor the pricing with a couple of on-line cruise sites. If you see a lower price, ask your TA to match it.

The only sure way is to book it an monitor prices as the last post said, but they do upgrade from CatA to CatSS more than most people know. TOM

Prinsendam has SS cabins ... and the 2005 Europe book has several ships showing SS designations. I know HAL is re-working all this, but it will take time to get it all done, I'm sure.

Depending on where and when you want to cruise there are SS suites as low as $840pp for a 7 day cruise. That is a great price for these very nice staterooms.

I do not know how that upgrade fairy works but she sprinkled some dust on us when we were not looking Booked a CAT- A and one day while booking shore excursions online saw we had been upgraded to a "S" Suite! Feeling very blessed:) We booked through a online travel agent and picked out a particular cabin # in July for a September cruise. Now ( all hurricanes permitting) we will be enjoying the Suite life soon! Good luck!

Tom, tell us your secret source so we on CC will know. We won't tell anybody else, we promise.
And please don't pull that old chestnut: "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you."

We have been lucky. But we do watch prices daily, and we book the highest balcony we can get at a guarentee. We are 3 for 3 on getting upgrades. On our Oct sailing we booked a CatA thru Holland PCC SERVICE.And the Rep told us he would request a complementery upgrade on our reservation. We recieved our docs and we were upgraded to a Cat S suite. And thats it. TOM
