View Full Version : Eurodam: Getting Suspicious Again

We have already been bumped from the Eurodam once, and now I am a little paranoid so I do weekly checks to make sure the February 7th cruise is still there. I just checked now and the category we have booked, VC, is completely unavailable. All others are, with the exception of the penthouse suites. There are many VC cabins. What could this mean? If we are in the middle of a group that took all the VC's, will they want to put us somewhere else?

Several categories are shown as "waitlisted" as of this writing - PS, SZ, VC, VH, HH and N. This means they are either sold out or the Ship Inventory Department may be holding back some cabins.
Don't be concerned.

I just checked an online cruise agency I've used in the past and they have 4 vc cabins available when I put in 4 passengers. I check often too since my party of 15 was also bumped off the 31st sailing. We ended up booking the Feb 7 also. I spoke to my travel agent the other day and I was checking on a cabin for my sister and there weren't many available in the location I wanted. I have 5 vd cabins in a row and wanted her across from us, but in the end she didn't book. I think we're still ok for now, but what do I know:) I'm just being hopeful. I checked a display for groups and charters and there's nothing posted yet on our date. I don't know what I'll do if they charter again. The following week is school vacation and I really don't want to go then. The airfare is always so high that week. I booked this for such a good price. I've looked at other ships I'd like to go on but nothing comparable to this. I was also excited about trying HAL for the first time. I hope all works out for us:D

5003, 5004, 5007, and 5009 are showing bookable for 4 on a cruise website that I am using. I also know that HAL holds cabins for emergencies. When I was rebooking after getting chartered there were 6 or 7 vd balconies in a row. I wanted 5 of them. HAL told me I could only take 1 that the rest were held for emergency. This was after they chartered the 31st. So of course I wasn't happy because my party wanted our cabins together. That's one reason why we booked so early. She finally got her supervisor to give me the 5 cabins but it took a while to do so. I wouldn't worry yet:)

I've noticed that if you check on the HAl site, the available/closed designation can vary wildly from day to day. One day every balcony cabin on the 8/14 Eurodam was closed, the next they were all available.

TA's will often reserve a block of cabins to get a group rate for their clients, then release the unsold staterooms at a later date.

I didn't even think about a TA reserving a block of rooms, but I'll bet that's what happened on our cruise. I wanted a cabin in a certain area, and they were all booked. Even though we'd booked almost a year in advance. Not too long ago I noticed that a bunch of cabins opened up (where we wanted to be), so I called our TA and had her move us.

How are you able to see which cabins are available? When I check the HAL website I can't get very far without actually booking. Am I doing something wrong?

If you see the button for booking, go ahead and click on it. Answer the questions as if you were going to actually book. You will see a screen that shows all the available category cabins. Pick one and find the button that says Fare Details and you will get a breakdown. Just quit after that. Nothing will have been saved.

Cabin sales are dynamic and inventory varies day to day. The only entity that knows the true status of cabin inventory is the cruise line.
This cruise is 8 months into the future and nowhere near final payment date. Anticipate seeing wild fluctuations in inventory availability.
If certainty of cabin is desirable, book a specific cabin.
