Just returned from our Alaskan cruise on the Westerdam. There was fruit in the room each day (based on the card we completed, as to what type we preferred).
One day, there was a plate of chocolate-covered strawberries (6 total) sitting on the desk. No card or anything. Am trying to figure out if this is a normal perk for every guest in each stateroom (no verandah or suite), or perhaps a gift from the maitre'd who we complained to the night before regarding the AYWD seating procedure.
It would seem if it was from the maitre'd there would have been some type of card. The strawberries were delicious-just curious if this is something everyone gets one day in the room?

must have been from a "secret" admirer!!! We order them for the sail away and there is a price attached!

It's the usual gift you get when you have a experienced a legitimate (and verified) deficiency. It usually comes with a card, though. You sometimes get it from the art auctioneer as well, if you have made purchases in the past.

Since the subject came up.....I haven't been on HAL cruise for a while, and am wondering if this delicious treat is still offered nightly in the Explorer's Lounge?

No chocolate covered strawberries in the Explorer's Lounge. Just the regular chocolates and sometimes you have to ask for them.

Wonderful chocolates after dinner in Explorer's. I walk quickly by to not be tempted.
We've enjoyed the chocolate strawberries sent to our cabin a number of times and there isn't always a card.....sometimes there is.

I don't fret about where they come from....I'm too busy enjoying them. :)

Chances are you are correct it was from the Dining Room Manager (he'll always be Maitre d' in my mind. )

I'm not happy to know there are wonderful chocolates in Explorers Lounge after dinner. Somehow I've managed to miss that and would also have to walk quickly by to avoid them. Don't you know I'll be looking for them next cruise just to confirm they are there.
