Thinking abut a med cruise on HAL that round trips from Rome. Has anyone taken their air on this cruise? If so, did you have to stay a day later or arrive a day sooner? I plan on a few extra days in Rome and didn't know if it would be better to add them at the beginning or at the end. I don't want to have to stay at a hotel both before and after.

If you do your land stay pre-cruise you might have an easier time adjusting to the time zone difference.
I find east-bound so much more difficult than west-bound.

Suggest a price comparison with Aer Lingus, via Dublin, in the mix.

My last time home from Rome to LAX in April this year, the ROM-DUB flight was 19 Euro!!! Yes, Nineteen. I think the taxes were more. The DUB-LAX flight was very inexpensive. If you use the EI website, you do have to price/book the flights separately.

But be careful, even tho the website says so, ROM check-in may not give you the International baggage allowance ROM-DUB. Arguing is futile. Bag fee is cheap enough.

For economy, I find EI friendly and comfortable. A good operation all around, well, except for that one incident with the checked bag in Rome.

I would always recommend a pre cruise stay-especially if you are arranging your own air. It will also give you some time to get over the time change (if this causes you any issues). Depending on how good a deal you get on your air, the difference between that and Princess air may in fact pay for some of that pre cruise stay.

Not certain how you travel but the train fare for Rome Termini to the cruise ship terminal is about 12E, or $18. Not certain what Princess is charging for the transfers now.
