Anyone know or have experience with rental car agencies at the FLL port?
We fly into Miami around 10:00 the night before our cruise. Don't have a hotel yet. We could rent a car, stay in Miami and drive up to FLL the next day for around $70. A limo is around $75 for the same trip. I don't know what a cab costs but it can't be much less. Renting a car would allow us to stop and get soda etc or anything else we decided we needed. However, will AVIS (because if one does they all generally do) drop you at the port? A limo or cab will drop us where we need to be which of course would be convenient. If you're wondering why we'd be willing to flip for a rental or limo, our airfare (FC) was free with FF miles. Because of the time frame, I had to go FC:D . No economy class was available. I didn't want to burn that many miles, but c'est la vie.

On our return, we get of course get in early and have a late flight out of Miami. So we our certain to rent a car in FLL for the day and make our way back to Miami for the flight home.

Thanks.

yes, the major car rental companies have a shuttle bus that will take you from their lot to the cruise ships. I use a cane and hertz was even kind enough a couple of trips ago to simply have us leave our luggage in the car and had one of their lot guys drive us in the rental car to the port and drop us off.

That having been said, it is likely that a limo svc would make a stop for you to pick up supplies and would then drop you right at the dock and you wouldn't have to be schlepping your luggage on and off the shuttle. We rented a limo for the trip from Pt Canaveral to Orlando last Jan and found it to be a great way to end the trip. And not much more than transfers on HAL's busses would have cost the 4 of us

If you are booking through one of the major car rental companies, check out their AAA and AARP rates. They are frequently a lot less than the standard prices. Also, if you have an Entertainment Book you will find discount coupons in it for car rental companies. We just saved 29.4% on our rental in Phoenix and the rates I got for our trips to Florida this year are at least as good. Sometimes if you book in conjunction with your airline you can get a good rate, too. Check them all out online before you commit.
