When you buy a ticket for the ferry to the virgin gorda on SPEEDYS is it for a specific time or is the ticket just for any time. The reason I ask I have to take the 12:30PM ferry back to Tortola to catch my cruise ship, so I want to know if my ticket will guarantee me a spot on that specific ferry time.

Thanks

As I recall the ticket does not specify a time.

When you buy tickets from Speedy's at the dock (and their taxis), do they take US Dollars?

They only take sea shells and Whiskey.

(Sure, they will take American dollars. We used cash).

For those of you who have used Speedy's, do you purchase them online ahead of time (would that save time with lines) or should we just wait and buy them the day of? I'm only asking because I, too, have questions about the timing of things. And Speedy's won't answer my emails. Thanks!

I also have sent an email to Speedy's asking these questions and have not received an answer yet. If I don't get an answer, I plan to just ask these questions up front when we get there and make sure I leave plenty of time for
getting back early before ship leaves. I have been going by the information posted by the person who has the "secrets to the caribbean" website. They say it took them about 30-35 minutes on Speedy's ferry to get to the Virgin Gorda Baths, which is where we want to go. Then I read somewhere else it took an hour on the ferry. So I will plan on an hour to be on the safe side! Please post if you get an answer from Speedy's and I will do the same.

My DH & I took the ferry last Dec to the Virgin Gorda Baths. We hopped in a cab to the ferry dock and had no problems getting to and from the Baths. The walk from the ship to the ferry is not far, but we opted for the cab. We will be doing the same on this cruise. Everything went very smooth and there is nothing to be concerned about.

Does it make any sense to take one ferry company one way and the other company the other way? [i.e., what are the one-way fares?] Times are better with Speedy going over and Smith coming back....

Thanks!!

I can't see it being a problem to use both. We were pleased with the rates we paid and the ease of boarding the ferry, etc. I decided when I retired that if I had to choose between convenience or paying a few extra dollars I was going for the convenience. I guess whatever works for you. Just a reminder about renting a locker. Be sure to buy your token at the top of the baths before going down the trail. We enjoyed the Baths so much during our last cruise we decided to bring our two grandchildren on this cruise. I haven't make any arrangements for any of the ports as of yet. I hope to get serious about it in the next few weeks. The Baths is definately at the top of our list.

Vols4Cruising... just buy the tickets when you get to the ferry terminal. It will be easy.

CRUISIN' TOGETHER... It will not take an hour.

sharks48... it'll be a little more expensive to use two different ferry companies each way and you'll have to pay for the taxi to the Baths. Taxi is included with round trip ferry ticket.

It's almost silly to take a cab from the pier to the ferry terminal. It's (at most if you take it slow) a 20 minute level walk.

We bought our locker tokens at the bottom of the path.

Thanks for all the info you have supplied us with. Your "Secrets to the Caribbean" site is wonderful and informative. It is what helped me decide what I wanted to do in Tortola. Thanks for sharing your experiences! I have bookmarked your site for future cruising reference!!

We wanted to go to the Baths using Speedy's Ferry Service and return on their scheduled 12:30 departure, but.....our ship leaves at 2:00 so all-aboard at 1:30. Will we be safe in doing this? Don't want to miss our ship as it is the last port we visit before returning to Tampa, Florida. Thanks for your help.
