We are sailing the Oosterdam this fall and wondering about the frig in the stateroom. I've seen some descriptions indicating it is an honor bar while others indicate it is an empty frig for guest use. Anybody know for sure. We are in a verandah stateroom cat B not a suite. Thanks!

You do have a refrigerator.

It is filled with pop and liquor. Honor bar means that anything you drink from it - you pay - the honor system.

A wine steward will check your refrigerator every day to see what has been used.

If you want to use the fridge for your own things simply ask the steward to remove what's there.
They'll do it for you. Just be sure that the wine steward is notified so you're not charged, and the items aren't replaced.

I wouldn't exactly call it an 'honor system'. Honor system to me means that there is a cup available to put $$$ into when you take something that there is a charge for, but nobody is watching to know if you actually paid or not.

On the ships there is a specific number of items in your frig and each day a wine steward checks to see if anything is missing. He then charges your ship account for whatever has been used. That's not the same as if you yourself were responsible for charging yourself or leaving the cash. ;)

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to confirm I could use the frig for my personal stuff.

I've always considered calling something like that an 'honor' system to be an oxymoron. It's more the ship's honor, hoping they won't charge you for something you did not drink.

Make sure you check your bill. On our last 2 cruises our bill showed charges for things we never touched. We reported it and it was removed, but it was a royal pain having to report it to multiple people to get it handled.

are there refrigerators in category BB? and if there aren't, can we request one?

estj, I understand there are refrigerators in every cabin on the Vista-class ships, and the suites and penthouse on the S-/R-class ships. Don't know about the Noordam (think none) and Prinsendam. If you are sailing in a cabin without a fridge and want one you may make a request. It'll cost a minimal amount/day, and (I believe) first given to those who need to keep medicine in them.

Have your TA check for you.

Ruth is correct, if you need a frig, ask your TA to request one for you. It costs $2 per day amd pax with medical needs get first preference....jean
