I'd posted asking if anyone knew if HAL rented tuxedos ... then found the answer myself:
"Formalwear for ladies and gentlemen can be pre-ordered for your use during your cruise by calling Cruiseline Formalwear at 800-551-5091. Your formalwear will be in your stateroom when you board."
Sorry for the inconvenience.

On our Westerdam 19 day cruise, we saw a lady moving 2 large racks of rented tuxedos off the ship in San Diego.

Thanks, Jim! I'd rather look it over online before we make any decision.
FYI, the address above brought me to a site that didn't look quite right. I called the 800# and their website is cruiselineformal dot com (not plural formals).
Not being picky, being grateful for your help because I would not have checked it out online without your answer. Thanks!

D'oh! Sorry about that, CP. My bad. Glad you found it, though.

lol ...
Now DH & I are "discussing" that an extra bag will be $50 round trip, and the tuxedo rental is $85 ... but you know what? If it's easier for him, there's no problem for me.
This is also a way to get around the fact that his tuxedo seems to have shrunk a little in the waist over the last year or so .... lolol ...

It is actually a very good service. AS my DH does not have a tux we have used it on all of our cruises. We had 1 problem on the last cruise when we realized when he was dressing on formal night that they had given him the wrong size shirt. We called the rep on board, our cabin steward and his manager all worked extremely hard to open up the facility and see if they had a shirt that would fit.
We got one that almost did, and did send a letter of complaint to the company when we returned. They refunded the entire fee to us which was something we had not asked for nor expected since we did have the tux
We are planning on using them again on our next cruise

We were on a Panama Canal Cruise on the Westerdam in 2006 and at our table three men had rented tuxes. They were all very rotund and all had perfect fits. They were in the size 50 +.

My family has used cruiselineformal many, many times and have been very pleased with them. If you are a larger size, like my dad, ordering ahead of time should resolve that issue.

CP,
My husband rented a tux for our last cruise - it was one of my better ideas! Didn't have to lug aboard a suit, shoes, tie, and shirts. Sure saved on the luggage. It was all waiting for us shortly after we boarded.

I think the availabilty all depends on the ship you are going on. Last year we were on the Oosterdam and had no problem with the rental for my DH. This year on the Amsterdam, they do not have any vests available and they also do not have ANY children sizes available for our DS, we are having to rent a tux in town and drag it with us. Thank goodness we are not flying!

I don't think the ship has anything to do with it as you are renting from a company that delivers to the ship, not directly from the ship. RandyK, did you use cruiselineformal or did you wait until you boarded the ship?

I went directly through cruiseline formal. I ordered both my DH's and DS's on the website and then got a phone call a few days later telling me that what I requested was not available on that ship. I ordered well in advance so I don't think they were just out, the rep made it sound like it wasn't offered on that perticular ship at all.
Besides the ship, I wonder if it depends on what port you are at as well. Maybe Seattle isn't as stocked as others.

Oh maybe as we ordered ours for a caribbean cruise out of Florida. Well, that's good to know, thanks for sharing your experiences.
