We are considering an S Suite on the Amsterdam. I am concerned about the location availability. It is located just below the Lido overhang. Will there be noise from the Lido and will the overhang bother our view? Also, we would be traveling around the horn and it can get rough. The available suites are near the stern. Would this be a bad location? Any information is greatly appreciated.

If you are talking about Lido Cafe above your head, there will be no noise as the restaurant is carpeted.
If you are referring to the pool area, very occasionally there is some brief sound of lounges being stacked or tables being moved if they are setting up for a deck party. It is usually very brief and not very disturbing.
We like mid-ship best.

I am very sensitive to noise at night. During the day, could not care less. We have had two mid ship S suites on Amsterdam and both were noisy from the deck above. Have not had an aft cabin under the Lido, but suspect the noise from above would be less, but you may pick up other noise. Suggestion: Choose the opposite side of the ship from the late night (11 pm or so) feeding frenzy in the Lido. My recollection is that was on the starboard side but I could be wrong. IMHO the best S cabins are the two most forward on each side, under low noise areas, and they are typically reserved quite early.

We have had suite 7026 and 7025 on the Amsterdam which are pretty much in the middle but we did get brief periods of noise when they were moving something on the deck above. In my opinion it is really hard to avoid some noise when you are below the Lido deck. Just an opinion.
We just returned from a cruise on the O'dam where we had a suite. I like the idea that the Lido deck is 2 decks up from the suites. No noise at all.

Going around the horn can be very rough.
The stern will fill the rough seas more than a cabin mid ships.

Not to mention the noise of the thrusters early in the morning when docking. They can be very loud and can cause vibration that can be very annoying if you are still trying to sleep.
Then when the ship leaves port, again you will get the thruster noises and....what about the anchor?

We had the 2nd to last Cat S cabin on the aft end (port side) on our 21-day SA/Antarctic cruise on the Amsterdam and it was one of the best cabins we have ever had! NO problems/noises/vibration from the thrusters because on the Amsterdam therer are no aft thrusters due to the Azipod System.
We have had well-aft cabins on three of our cruises and have not been able to discern any significant difference in the ride from the times when we have had mid or forward cabins. IMO and experience, I think the theory that well aft cabins make for a worse ride, is overstated. I'm sure that others will disagree, however.

I have had cabins in both areas and we actually prefer to be aft vs. in front. There is some noise regardless of which suite you choose from the lido. When we were in Suite 006 on the Amsterdam, you could hear ping pong games going all the time if you were on the veranda. We heard nothing from above from inside.
On the Ryndam we were in an A veranda cabin directly below the Lido and didn't hear anything from above in the Lido. The only problem with the cabin was that the overhang interferred with picture taking. We enjoyed the aft cabin and didn't find any vibration to be bothersome.
P.S. A big wave to BillS- I owe you a letter and will write it today!!

We did have one suite where the overhand was - and you are all right - DH hated it because he couldn't get good pictures at certain times of the day.
