Do the partitions between the balcony cabins open up so you can walk between 2 balconies? I've seen some kind of a door-looking thing in the partitions, but it was from a distance (while on another ship) and I'm not sure if that door-looking thing opens or not. Anyone know? If it does open, is it that way on ALL balconies or just some?
Thanks for the help!

There is a door that opens from one balcony to the other. It has to be unlocked by your cabin steward. If you leave it unlocked, it will bang when the ship moving thus disturbing other people.

So would you suggest bringing duct tape or a bungee cord to hold the door in place if we wanted to keep it open the whole week? Or would putting a chair in front of it hold it?
Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

It swings back and forth and slams all night long....certainly would disturb anyone within ear shot. Putting a chair in front of it probably would not be a good idea IMO .....nor would the mess of taping it all up each evening. Even if you did something to keep it from swinging all night, it would swing and bang on a sea day as well and could be annoying to neighbors.
Most folks who have their stewards open the doors decide it wasn't working out that great and end up having them locked again.

'05-Golden Princess, West. European Capitals, '04-2 wk. land cruise to Wash. State, '04-Monarch of the Seas, '04-Coral Princess, '03-Monarch of the Seas, '02-Ecstasy, '02-Adventure of the Seas, '01-Radiance of the Seas, '01-Grand Princess, '00-Grand Princess, '99-Viking Serenade, '98-Elation
I'm trying to read your list of cruises and cannot figure out what "&apos" means. It appears throughout your list. What does it represent?

Well, I guess it's a good thing we got adjoining cabins then! We won't have to have the balcony door open this way.

We just got back from cruising on the Oosterdam and had adjoining balconies (not rooms). I took a bunjie cord but we didn't need it. We just asked the cabin steward to unlock and he also locked it in the open position and it didn't move the whole cruise. ;) It was great, we were able to go back and forth between the cabins without going into the hall.

That's exactly what our cabin steward did on a previous cruise, EbayCruiser! He just simply locked it in place and it never moved all week. That makes much more sense! If we hadn't told our cabin steward that we wanted the door left open all week, he would've just left if hanging there and that could've been a problem, as noted above.
So glad we'll be able to go between the balconies AND the cabin now! Thanks so much for reporting back!

'05-Golden Princess, <etc>
I'm trying to read your list of cruises and cannot figure out what "&apos" means. It appears throughout your list. What does it represent? It's raw HTML code for an apostrophe....(i.e. '05-Golden Princess, etc.)

It's more than likely some stray character in her signature line that causes the software to do that. e.g., posting a double apostrophe can be interpreted as saying you want the code for an apostrophe, rather than the apostrophe itself, to be displayed.
Life was a lot simpler back when computers had dark green screens with light green characters and no Windows!

Lady Jag - I'm not sure about Oosterdam, but on Zuiderdam you could not latch open the balcony partitions of BB cabins. This is because the BC balconies are a bit shallower than the other balcony cabin categories and they didn't adapt the partition to allow for this. The folded back part of the partition blocked the door into the cabin. This may be something they fixed on Oosterdam and Westerdam, but I haven't seen any reports one way or the other. You might want to check on this if you are in a BB cabin.
Happy cruising,
Susan

The apostrophe was from my signature on the old board and it transferred over to this board and the translation didn't work. It was a listing of our cruises with '01 Grand Princess, '02 Grand Princess, etc.
Okay, thanks, Susan!

Our stateroom was an A category - if that makes a difference!
