I hope you won't think this is a stupid question. I thought I read somewhere you could bring your own wine on board. Any help would be appreciated. This is our first cruise, we cruise June 22 on the Westerdam so this is all new to us. Thanks. Barb:)

Yes, on HAL yyou can bring your own wine aboard. If you take it to the dining room there is a corkage fee, but not if you drink it in your room.

Bring all that you can carry on, from every port! :D :D That goes for any other liquids too, except beer and hard liquor. Bon voyage! :)

Thank you both for your quick replies. My son lives in Seattle so he will get our wine for us. He and my dil gave us this cruise for our 50th wedding anniv. We upgraded ourselves to the Deluxe Suite, might as well go first class for our first cruise.:) We'll have 5 g-daughters and two other young girls from Russia they are hosting for the summer, all waving to us. Thanks again.

Congratulations on your 50th anniversary!!

The charge is $15 per bottle if you take your wine to the dining room to be opened. This includes the 15% gratuity.

If you have wines with a cork and want to drink it in your room, bring a corkscrew along. If you wish to avoid the hassle of a corkscrew, have wines bought with the screw tops (there are many good ones these days). If you like drinking a fair amount of wine, consider the boxed ones (less of a concern about breakage and lighter overall compared to the same amount in a bottle and very drinkable, IMO). Enjoy the trip.

Congrats on your 50th! You will love the deluxe suite, especially the verandah. We eat breakfast every morning on ours ..
Then there is the Neptune lounge .. you can get fresh, European style coffee there any time of the day (7am - 8:30pm) .. this is a real plus.

We bring wine onboard as well as purchase from dining wine steward. We always keep a bottle of white in the frig so we can have a drink in the late afternoon cocktail hour timeframe. This is usually a bottle we bring onboard and we do not have to pay a corking fee for it. If you want to have wine at your dining table, just give it to the Neptune lounge concierge and they will have it sent down. That way you do not have to parade thru the ship with a bottle in hand.

Hope you enjoy your trip ..

As othrs have said, you certainly may bring wine onboard. And a very, very happy anniversary and a wonderful cruise. Sounds like you've got a great bunch seeing you off.

By now you know that bringing your own wine aboard is ok. We always bring a case when we sail on HAL. One thing that was suggested on these boards and something we have done for the last couple cruises, is when you board have the cabin stewart remove all the snacks etc. from the small fridge in the cabin. Then you can put a couple of your own wines or champagne bottles in it to keep cool.
Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary!

We brought a case of wine onboard the Ryndam in 5/2008, but forgeot a corkscrew. A quick call to the cabin steward, and voila...a corkscrew appeared in our cabin. You gotta love service!

We have brought on plenty of bottles of champagne and wine, it is very easy. Also if you are bringing on a bottle that needs to be served chilled then you can take it to the Concierges in the Neptune early in the day and ask them to have it for you that evening.
I think you have received plenty of postive answers so I just want to add my Best Wishes and Congratulations on your 50th Wedding Anniversary:) What a wonderful way to spend it going to Alaska and in a Deluxe Suite. You are definitely going to be spoiled but for 50 years of marriage you definitely both deserve it.

When booking, they always ask if you arre celebrating any occaision, so last year I answered yes, our 50th and my wife will have her birthday one of the days. Nothing! (not on a HAL ship). Her birthday friends we were dining with told the waiter it was her birthday and we got a piece of cake and 4 waiters singing Happy Birthday. Later I heard the song a couple of other times.
Advice; tell the head waiter or someone about your anniversary. :) Enjoy.

:) Thank you all for your kind wishes and advice and what a wonderful surprise to find a picture of a Wedding Cake, that was special. BTW, the day we sail it's my DH's birthday also so I will tell the head waiter about our celebrations.

There are so many wonderful people here on the boards, thank you so much again.;) Barb

Know what you mean. We have celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries on HAL ships. Our TA sends in the information. We even do some reminders. This time on the Westerdam the staff there reminded us about DH's birthday but when the day came -- nothing!!

On the Westerdam we received a couple of bottles of wine as a gift. One morning we stopped in the Neptune Lounge about 9 AM and turned in a bottle to be sent down to the dining room for dinner. Didn't happen. When we got to the dining room our wine steward knew about the wine. So he went to the Neptune Lounge -- the bottle was still sitting there with our name, table number and dining time on it.

So it doesn't always work on all ships.
