Hello to all you expert travelers,
My mother is cruising on the Noordam this August, and one of the ports of call is Civitavecchia. She would like to take the HAL-offered Rome transfer shore excursion and sightsee on her own, but she has some questions HAL was not able to answer. Has anyone taken this Rome transfer before? How does it work? The ship is in port 7 am to 5 pm. Here are her specific questions:
1. What time does the bus depart the port for Rome?
2. What time does the bus depart Rome for the port?
3. Where is the pickup/dropoff location in Rome?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Violet,
I have only taken the Civi-Rome sightsee-transfer to FCO but most of the tour buses were leaving in the 8-830am range.
Since r/t travel time Noordam-Rome-Noordam is around 3 hours, this tour will probably leave the Noordam as early as possible to maximize sightseeing time in Rome.

The ship will give you all of the information. We just came back a week ago and took the Rome transfer. I believe we left the ship about 8:15 and had to catch the bus at 4:30 to go back to the ship. They let us off someplace by a theater which was also right by the underground. We went directly to St. Peters from the bus stop and it worked out really well. Be sure you have a good map as the one on the ship is not very detailed. You might be able to go on line and get an underground map so you can see where you want to go. We were able to get to St. Peters - did not take the museum tour, we walked around and made it to the Pantheon, walked over to the forum, colleusem - didn't go in either one of these too crowded and hot, went on to the Spanish Steps, walked around, Trevi Fountain and then it was a short walk back to where the bus was going to pick us up. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Thanks very much Daniel and Debbie for the very helpful information. I appreciate it -- and my mother appreciates it!
