Has anyone ever been in one of those cabins at the very tailend of the ship?
Are they bigger balconies?

I was on the "Z" in July and although they tend to be a bit bigger the one thing we noticed is that everyone can look down on your balcony, so there is no privacy whatsoever.......

Didn't think about that! Thanks!

I will be in one of those corner aft suites on 9/25 and I can post my thoughts after I get back but in the meantime here are some sites that will show you what the cabin and verandah look like:

There are cruisers that swear to how wonderful those aft suites are and others that talk about the lack of privacy, too much sun, flying lido debris, etc.

Hi,

We were in cabin 4174 (aft). The cabin gets the afternoon sun so it is very hot, can't sit out on the veranda too much and don't have much privacy because the upper people can look down into ours. The aft cabins are over the propeller so very noisy sometime. If you are a heavy sleep then it is OK otherwise the noise might bother you.

We just got upgraded to this location. For the future cruise I just pick a cabin where I can be happy with and forget about the upgrade fairy.

We were on 8/28 - during the hurricane Frances. Zuiderdam is a nice ship.

Happy Cruising.

The aft balconies are not just "somewhat bigger" -- they are HUGE ! Easily 3-4 times bigger than the side balconies. The pax on the balconies above you can see nearly your whole balcony, so if you need to do anything private out there, the side cabins would be better. Nobody ever bothered us and we had no problems whatsoever with soot or debris. We had a choice of an SS on the side or A on the wake and chose A for our third Zuidy cruise in November. The only thing that could move us is a free upgrade to an S suite. Photos below.

Also, when you're in port, the other ships can look right down into your balcony. This is what got us interested in sailing with HAL - those beautiful, huge balconies on the aft of the Vista Class ships! They really are spacious - the biggest I've seen and we've had quite a few aft corner balconies. Just beware that those above you can look down into 'your' space and also ships docked nearby and if that doesn't bother you, go for it!
