Girl, don't boil over. Call HAL or your travel agent and ask what this is for. Our one friend Bev & Ron received a 100% refund prior to our sailing. Janice's we are working on. Mine just got transferred to another day. I hope you replan another cruise. How about Dec. 12th with us?? Oosterdam........great prices........is this making you think yet??? I hope things go well for you and we do get to meet in the future. Believe me I won't forget your name. LOL

Okay, I'm SLIGHTLY less frantic now. That was automatically generated and they went in while I was on the phone and did a manual refund of the full amount.
TT: We initially tried to reschedule but they wouldn't switch. We would have lost the benefit of early booking. It wasn't worth as much more as they were going to charge us.

Weren't you supposed to get a FULL refund??
I would get in touch with HAL right away - they are open this evening - call them.

Whew! Okay...all is well, very glad they did the manual refund instead of giving you the runaround...all is good :).

You mean you paid more than that?
:D <Very Big Grin. Sarcasm Warning.>
(Yes, I've seen your later post.) Maybe the $82 is a bonus? Cash the check, go out to dinner and pretend you're in the Pinnacle!

The whole fiasco, and I'm not talking about the weather, has really soured me on the line. I'm in my 30's and have many years, God willing, of cruises left. Why would they try so hard to put up a negative face. They truly handled the entire situation very poorly and turned what could have been a simple disappointment into a very unfavorable event. My opinion of the HAL changed dramatically, while my opinion of other companies was enhanced.

Did you book the cruise yourself or use a travel agent? I have the same problem with Holland America's refund for the 9/4 cancellation. They only refunded partial for the cruise but I cannot really figure out what they are missing (it looks like taxes/port fees but I am not certain). I already sent an e-mail to my travel agency questioning it but was wondering if I should call Holland America myself......This is making me rethink about booking with Holland America in the future. It was supposed to be our first cruise. Now I am not sure I will try cruising again. This whole thing is too much trouble.
Thanks for your help.

I can sympathize. Our first cruise (in 1993 on the old Carnival Exasperation  ) so traumatized us that it was 6 years before we even considered getting on another cruise ship. When we finally did (on HAL's Veendam) the experience was so good we got hooked for life!
Do note that hurricanes are not a weekly occurance in all cruise locations. :)
While it might be hard for you to enjoy a HAL cruise right now, I do suggest you try a cruise anyway (Princess or Celebrity might be good) to get the bad taste out of your mouth. Then, after you're hooked (and you will be :) ) give HAL another change.

jls27: We did not use a travel agent. We booked directly with the line. I bet the part you are missing is your travel agent's commission. They said that would be retained for the agent. I would have figured most TAs would give it back to you, but maybe not????

Stillfrantic you are right. With Janice's booking this is what the problem is......that darn comission. I also had the green cabana and just today I found out it was booked by someone else. I checked my account and they refunded my 179.00(remember I booked the cabana I think in Jan) and now they charged me 219.00. The more I think about it the more I get upset. I did call HAL on money due me yet and ready for this one..........they offered me 61% off and I can do a B2B. They said they will even move the person in A7126 on the Dec. 5th Easter Caribean cruise so I can keep the same cabin. If the person who is in that cabin for the Dec. 5th is a CC person just want you guys to know they said if you did not want to move they would offer you and upgrade to get me to take this offer. Not bad for the both of us. The only thing I feel sad about is that our friends who did go on the cruise said our cabins verandah were long and thin. I remember looking at a picture of the verrandah that someone had posted and I thought it was a good size. Can't fiquire this one out. I quess I will have to ask.......again.
Take care Stillfrantic
