When I sailed on her, the lower dining room was used for breakfast and lunch. I have never sailed on a HAL ship where the upper dining room was used for those two meals. I am 99% sure only the lower dining room is used unless there is a special buffet (i.e. Grand Show Buffet) in the dining room when the number of guests participating would require that the upper level be used.

:) Thank you. :)
You mentioned that all the ships you sailed on it was the lower dining room. Perhaps all Vistas serve breakfast and lunch in the lower dining room ?
On S and R ships, breakfast and lunch is served in the upper dining room.

The Noordam serves breakfast and lunch in the Vista Dining Room, Deck 2 (Lower level).

With the current fleet, I have sailed aboard the Veendam, Volendam, Zaandam, Amsterdam, Zuiderdam, and Noordam. None used the upper dining room for breakfast or lunch.

This is very strange. I have sailed on the Ryndam, Statendam, Veendam, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Volendam and Zaandam and breakfast has always been in the upper dining room. We go to the dining room for breakfast often and it was always the upper.
I have not sailed on a Vista so I have no idea where breakfast or lunch is served.
I can't answer for lunch since I only went once years ago and don't remember.

Also lunch was served there every day that it was open for lunch. On the Zuiderdam in Dec 2007 breakfast and lunch were served in the Upper d.r. one day only. On the Amsterdam in April/May 08 lunch was served in the lower d.r. just one day, and on all other 13 days both breakfast and lunch (when it was open) was served on the Upper level.

On my Noordam cruise it was the lower dining room for breakfast & lunch w/the Upper dining room only used for the Mariners Luncheon (which was grand BTW).

I ate breakfast and lunch in the dining room several times when I was on the Rotterdam in January and February this year. Service was always on the upper level.

Wherever the steward seats you is where they're serving - You'll find out soon enough.

But, Brian, some people are so regimented that they have to know before they even get on the ship just which floor to get off the elevator!!!:) :) Talk about pre-planning -WOW

WOW What rude responses. My question has nothing to do with pre-planning. BTW I am not a regimented type person.
Thanks to all that answered in a decent manner. :)

Interesting how the location varies. jtl513 embarked on the Amsterdam at the time I disembarked from this year's Grand World Voyage. For the entire world voyage, it was only the lower dining room that was used for breakfast and lunch, except, as I said, for special occasions (i.e. Grand Show Buffet) when the upper level was opened to accommodate the large number of guests enjoying the buffet.
I wonder what determines which of the levels is used?
