I have sailed many times with HAL but always on a Vista and always in a balcony cabin. I'm considering booking a cruise on the Statendam and I'm looking for suggestions on the best cabins. Since I will be travelling as a single I'm going to be forced to take an outside cabin to make it more affordable. My travel agent recomended booking the highest category obstructed view gaurentee, hoping to get an upgrade to an outside. Any thoughts on this idea??
Please give me your thoughts on the best OV cabins on the Statendam.
Thanks in advance.

What is most important to you about having an outside cabin? The view? Daylight? Easy access to the great outdoors? The answers to this could make a difference in a recommendation.
If you book an obstructed view guarantee, can you live with it if that's what you're assigned to?
The cabins on the Lower Promenade all give light and easy access to outdoors; most give a view. That view, however, does have the deck itself between you and it. The cabins are smaller than comparable cabins on the lower decks. Although people can't see in during the daytime, you need to keep your draperies closed at night when the lights are on. It's easy to get to/from lifeboat drill.
The cabins on Main Deck have light and a clear view to scenery; it's a quick hop to to the outdoors. These cabins are larger than the ones on Lower Promenade. You may hear people walking/moving chairs above, or the cleaning crew washing it down.
Cabins on the next deck down, depending on location forward/aft/midships, may have their own attendant noises. There's a clear view to the sea, and there's no noise from people on the Lower Promenade. In rough seas it's possible to see the waves slamming your window ( :D /:eek: depending on your point of view).
Hope this helps you decide.

I am on the Statendam in less than 2 weeks and I booked the category HH (ov) since it was my first cruise and I didn't exactly know what to do to be honest! But then I came on here and realized that there was a chance that I saved money by doing this and possibly getting an upgrade. A few days ago I got my room assignment and was assigned category E - which is an upgrade. I was very pleased. :)
