My dgtr is complaining about getting a sofa bed on our upcoming cruise on this ship. Can anyone tell us how they open and indicate their comfort level. From the pictures of a cabin, it looks like a full sized sofa, but is directly opposite the bed, so we wonder how it opens up. We are in the SS category "suite."

We are having the same problem! DD really doesn't like the idea that the sofa bed is at the foot of our bed and not like they are on the other ships, where there is a partial curtain between the sofa and our bed. Hope we can get an answer to this one.
From the photos I have seen the bed definitely does not open out as they do in the Suites.

Anyone know the answer to this?

We were in inside large I cabin on Zui (right next to SS)... Our son is 12 and almost 5'4". He was ok with his sofa. He usually went to bed later than us anyway.;)

If it is at all like our sofa in our oceanview cabin on the Zuiderdam, the entire seat and back flip over and voila twin bed. No folding out or taking up any room. You have a real twin matress and no bar in the middle. So instead of the three cushions, you have a mattress, during the day they flip it back to the sofa cushions. My kids fought over who got the sofa bed.

We (a family of 4) had an S suite on the Zuiderdam in July. The leather sofa bed is just like any sofa bed in a home. It comes out in 3rds and takes up plenty of room. Our kids were too old to sleep together (a girl 13 and boy 11) so they took turns in the bed and our cabin steward used the cushions to make up another bed. This "cushion" bed was put at the base of the king bed crossways. So there is room between the made out sofa bed and the king bed. It worked great and no one complained. We never pulled the bed out or put it away as the cabin steward, Sam, had it all set every evening. You are right that there is no privacy between the beds but there is a privacy curtain between the entry hallway closet area and the rest of the cabin. There is another curtain between the closet area by the bathroom and the entry hallway. It worked for us and our kids were thrilled to be able to go (thus the no compaints). We all had a fabulous time.

We discovered that it was much cheaper to book two VC cabins on the WDam over Christmas for us and our DD (even after paying the single supplement) than for a SS suite. You end up with more square footage and as a bonus TWO bathrooms! DD who used to be stuck in an inside with her brother across from our suite on past cruises is estactic with getting her own private cabin / balcony, while we get a whole bunch of privacy!
