Tour Cancellation

I just received this email from HAL about a tour we were waitlisted for....
Since then we had booked a private car and driver, but there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when they get this message......

We have been notified by our local tour operator that the Cruise & Dine at the Maidens Tower excursion will no longer be available for your upcoming call to Istanbul, Turkey on July 12, 2008. We have refunded your prepaid booking to the credit card used for purchase. As an alternative excursion, we recommend the Istanbul By Night. This happens.

We have also received notice before the cruise began that a tour was cancelled for whatever reason. And we did get our money refunded back to our credit card.

We have also gotten on the ship and their was a notice that a tour was cancelled and this time we got shipboard credit.

Sorry to hear that ... always a bummer. We had notice in our cabin on embark that one of our Caribbean excursions had been cancelled. No real biggie .. we just went down to the E-Desk and booked something else. At least you got a little advance notice ...

It happens. Could be any number of reasons.....one of which might possibly be a safety issue???

Good they sent notification and people can make alternative plans.

I saw on a general travel message board ( not cruising) that the cafe and bar closed for reasons unknown.

We had already booked another private tour by the time I got this email so really I was just sharing the news, but if it is a safety issue do you think they would mention it?

I would not be sure about going on our private car tour if there are safety concerns.... Any place I can look that up?... Wendy

My comment is 'mere speculation'. I cited the first possible reason that came to mind. It could be any number of reasons and have absolutely nothing to do with safety.

Our tours were cancelled because of lack of people booking them, one because the roads had been washed out in Hawaii -- so far none have been cancelled because of security concerns.
