Dee, you can post pictures. If you look below the box you type in when send your next post, you will see an area called Additional Options. In that square,
there are 3 little blocks, the middle one being "Attach Files". Click on "manage Attachments", and follow the instructions. Keep in mind that there are size restrictions on the picture you post, but otherwise, it's fairly easy to do.

Kelly, I know what you mean about this time of year. I am leaving TOMORROW for Galveston, and I am wondering why I wanted to go now! Last night, I ran to the mall to get a new dress for the trip, and it was HARD to find a dress to wear in the Caribbean in all the Christmas and winter stuff. And whatever weight didn't show up last week is sure to come this week, since we've been doing leftovers (hope I'm wrong). I am a mess of stress. I thought it would be easier since we are driving, but I found all this extra stuff to take (birthday decorations, a bathtub rack, Chanukah decorations and gifts), and now I think I'll look like I've packed for a month! Today I have to run to mail Chanukah gifts, work, and tonight we have our first office Xmas party!!!!! I will really like getting on that ship Sunday.
Not sure which post you liked, but glad you can use it. :)

I know I missed something; please remind me/forgive me/give me strength!!!

Mindy: Here's your post I liked!

"Every group has different people who play different roles. There is usually the Dreamer, who has to be pulled back to reality, the Counter, who always tracks things in numbers, and the Pusher, who gets the ball rolling. Sometimes there is a Peacemaker, who keeps people from drifting apart, and sometimes there is a Devil's Advocate. I think that because of your nursing background, you are now acting as the Coach and that you are trying to make sure we don't lose focus. (You have been called our Mother in the past, haven't you?)
I don't know if any of this helped Regina, but I think you A- should continue to call 'em as you see 'em, and B - should not worry as much about us losing people. (I am now acting as the group Optimist, so I may be overlooking something.) I really believe we have something very good here."

Simply Fabulous! ;)

Last year, we did a Hawaii cruise in December. I was so organized. I had everything done by Thanksgiving weekend. This year, I can't even imagine. I did decide last year though, that I'd never plan a trip in December again. I'm not sick enough of the cold and it did interfere with holiday festivities. We agreed that from now on, our winter vacations will be in Feb or March.

Crazy and busy as it is....I'm still REALLY glad I am going! When you look at the big picture, I sure need this, and it couldn't be at a better time! I have 3 weeks off for the Christmas break, and the first of those is the cruise, then we get back on Christmas Eve from the cruise and have Christmas with the family! Perfect!

I have no regrets and I'd do it again in a minute! It's just work that is stressing me out right now! No worries....it will all be better by Monday! :p It always is!

Believe it or not, I'm already packed for the cruise! :D (tee hee!)

Taking a break from my busy schedule to share what we all may have experienced at one time or another.

You put on your pants
But it won't go past your leg.
What's it going to be this time?
Slim fast, WW, or Jenny Craig?

You name it, you've tried it!
You've been on diet after diet
You're going to win this battle of the bulge
Gaining willpower against desserts you indulge.

You'll be able to become thin
You'll bare the goodies with a grin.
Day by day, you'll abide by it
You won't touch a thing
By night you can't stand it
You devour everything!

You pick while you're working
Then, you'll stop for a bite
Soon you'll be munching all through the night!
Cookie & milk...pasta and bread
Changes overnight to those bulges you dread
Ice cream, cookies & key lime pie
You've cheated enough
Yet, your willpower won't die.

You'll do extra sit ups
Because you want to be thin
Just as soon as you finish
Digesting everything within

You can't zip your zipper
So, you'll think that you'll fast
You've just past up some cream puffs
Now you know you will last.

Standing in front of the scale
You can still hold fat in a pinch
You'll exercise all night
Just to lose that 1/2 inch!

Jogging down the road
You smell cookies from the bakery
To add to your sorrow
You can no longer stay bold
"Oh, Well" you say
I"ll start my diet tomorrow.

It was worth the type cause that's how I used to be and I think it helps to serve as a reminder....that's not what I want to return to.

Regina
Looking forward to Sunday's weigh in:)

Hey everyone,

Sorry I've been missing for a while. I guess I've been in a little bit of a funk lately and PMSing. Really haven't ben on the computer as much as usual either.

Thanksgiving went well. I cooked, so I was able to control what went on the table. Made lots of veggies (too many actually) and of course the turkey. I also made a sweet potato pie for my FIL. Turned out I had enough filling left to make a crustless pie also so that worked out well. The real one left with my FIL so I didn't have to deal with that temptation after the meal.

I'm still maintaining between 131 and 133 depending on the day. Haven't made up my mind yet if I'm happy here or want to try to get down to 120. I'm going to increase my water intake and exercise this week and see what happens. I feel much better than I did before I started this way of eating though, so regardless I'm not changing back to my old habits.

Guess that's all for now. I'll try to get back to posting more until Christmas when I leave for my grandparents for a week.

Hey...Welcome back Susan! So good to here from you again. Frankly, I can't wait to get down to your weight! Sounds like you have been doing good. This is a hectic time of season, so post when you can. My schedule is getting more hectic with each day and I have noticed my posting has slowed up and probably will get less as the season holidays get closer. Having family come from out of state is going to keep me on the go.

Kelly, I will say, one of the best things about going at this time of year was that when we got back, we had Christmas and New Years to look forward to so the post cruise blues weren't quite as sharp. You do have to go when you can get away from work.

Thanks for the poem Regina. Boy can I relate! That was me too, many years ago. Scary!

Hi Susan! Sounds like you are doing well at this hectic time of year.

Well, yesterday was really tough for me because I was being 'extra good' because of our parties today and tomorrow. I did bank a total of 10 points for this weekend so I'm pumped. I really want to get on the scale but it's only been 4 days and I must wait until Tuesday. That will also help keep me on the straight and narrow over the weekend. The first week is always hardest and this is extra hard because I knew I had to be very conservative due to this 2 party weekend!

This morning, I'm going for a 10 mile training run. Then to the store to buy party food, then I plan to stop at a craft fair and off to the party. I'm excited because my sister in law is flying in from Florida and is going to show up at the party and surprise everyone. I can't wait!

Ahhh! The Weekend!

Gonna finish some Christmas shopping today (I should get my 10,000 steps in) then going to a surprise birthday party. Pasta deal! I'm not worried! I'm too motivated to start breaking down now! :D

Susan: Welcome back! I was always so envious, yet happy, about your weight postings...and now I'm joining you! You have been an inspiration! Hang in there! The holiday blues bug is attacking us all! Chin up!;)

Mindy: If I don't have the chance later to say it...HAVE A LOVELY CRUISE! I can't wait to hear about it! Drive safely!

My Weigh-in: Up .2 pounds. Since I think I may have really gained over Thanksgiving, and it didn't show yet, I'm not unhappy with this. This was a weird week- not enough sleep, meals on the run, better but still not where I should be on water, etc. So I'll take it. Glad I went in to WW, makes me know I can NOT go overboard ;) on cruise food!

Was 158
Now 154.2 DESPITE PRECRUISE ANXIETY AND THANKSGIVING.

Wow Dee! That dress makes you look like you don't have much left to lose! Love clothes like that. You are the lucky one - you have more time to lose weight!

This week, when buying a new dress for me, the 12 was a little too big, and the 10 a little too tight. Since the 12 was red and the 10 was black, I went for the red 12, and it will be my 2nd night formal.

Thanks to all for the send off - I will try not to disappoint your faith in me. Have a great week!

Nice job on the weigh in Regina!

Well, I made it through yesterday's party without eating like a pig. My caloric intake for the day was about 2100. My points were 40. Between what I'd banked and my excersize points for my run, I had 43 to use so that's good. I'd hoped to keep it to 33, but it was just impossible. I enjoyed some goodies, enjoyed the party and didn't walk out feeling like a stuffed sausage. Yep ladies, we can do this through the holidays!

Hi everyone!
I am down three pounds for the week!
Just spent the last half hour catching up on the posts. :p I came down with Intestinal flu on Tuesday. Finally back to "normal"! I weighed myself on Thurs and was down 7lbs from last weigh in! That was scary! I basically did not eat anything on Wed or Thurs but Ritz crackers (that's another story!) and tea and water. So now that I am back to eating, I gained back 4lbs. Does that make sense to anyone but me? I did actually make it to Curves yesterday. I did 2 1/2 rds before I said enough. Then went Christmas shopping.

Lani and Kelly,Thank you for the kind words and caring.:) I think you are right. I have the holiday blues. I also used to make tons of cookies and goodies for the holidays. I was raising two boys and always had them and their friends around. I had my decorations up by now. I think I miss all the hub-bub. I can remember back then wishing for some "peace". Careful what you wish for. Anyhow, we dragged out the decorations and I am starting to decorate. I worked on our Chrismas cards this morning and am in a much better frame of mind.;) I am now putting on the Christmas carols much to my DH's disgust. LOL! I live with the "Grinch"! LOL!

Regina, I am not sure what happened the last few days while I was sick, but I want you to know, I appreciate all your posts and advice. I don't think the thread needs any improvement. In fact, I think way back when, I said I really liked this thread as everyone was so supportive here and there was no fighting or negativity. Let's keep it that way. I feel I can come in and talk about almost anything and know there will be a kind word and encouragement. Just as there has been for me these last few weeks while in my "funk". As for losing people, I agree with whoever said that people come and go. You can start with 50 and end up with 20 "regulars".

Runner Girl! Way to go!

Everyone else keep up the good work. Beautiful red dress!

PS: Whatever works for you reward wise, Go for it. I reward myself with new clothes and sometimes that German choc cake. We all work very hard at this and we deserve to reward ourselves anyway we can, whether it be that piece of choc cake we have been dying for or a new dress. I believe in the Scarlett O'Hara syndrome "Tomorrow is another day!"
See ya later,:)

Kelly,
Great Dress! I bet you look like dynamite in it! You have done so well and I am so proud of you. I will miss your posts while you are gone. I bet the ship will look beautiful all decorated for Christmas. You are going to have a wondeful time! Must try a holiday cruise. Maybe the Grinch will enjoy it too.

I have to tell you all the quick story of the Ritz crackers. I was so sick on Wed. Couldn't keep anything down, not to mention my body had rid itself of anything that had been in it before the bug attacked! All I could think was I wanted tea and crackers. My darling DH is wonderful except when I am sick. I swear he has the bedside manner of a surgeon! "OK operation was a success, see ya!" So he comes into the bedroom, where I am bundled up in bed and moaning cause my insides are on the outside,to "check on me" and says he is going to the store and did I want anything. I told him I really wanted some tea and crackers and were there any soda crackers in the cupboard? No, he had eaten them all when he had soup for lunch early in the week. So off to the store he goes. 45 minutes later, here he comes with lukewarm tea (I hate lukewarm tea and he knows it!) that he had made before he left for the store and a box of Ritz crackers! "Why Ritz crackers?" I croak. Because HE really had a taste for them and figured they would be fine. Well, the man is still alive because I was too weak to get out of bed and put my hands around his throat! So I drank my yucky tea, ate the Ritz and smiled sweetly when he asked if I was ok. It gets even better, later that afternoon my sister calls and I over hear him telling her "Yes, I made her tea , Yes, I got her to eat something and Yes she is fine, but awfully cranky!"
Now that I am better, I still adore him, and want to spend the rest of my life with him, but I have made plans if I ever get truly sick, my sister will come take over. Oh by the way, he was sooooo supportive of the weight lost and had the nerve to say, "Hope you can keep off the 7lbs you lost this week!" MEN!
Hope this gave you all a smile! :)

Hi gals,

Sorry I'm so late in posting. Sunday mornings must not be my thing. I get up, read the paper, drink coffee, and the next thing I know it's noon, and I have to get moving. Is it ok that I don't weigh in till Sunday night? At least I'm not lurking!! :D This was another good week, down another 2.

Dee - The dress is beautiful. I bet you'll feel great in it.

Jodie - Glad to see you're feeling better. Maybe the fog is starting to lift...always a good thing! The story about the crackers is a riot...men...ya gotta give 'em credit or give 'em h***. Funny thing is, usually one of those applies almost constantly.

Kelly - You crack me up. Your comment "and watch those points (I have no idea what that means, but I know it's important to you...so I support it!) " made me laugh out loud. I'm right there with you on that one, I don't get them either, was so funny to read. Makes me feel less stupid knowing I'm not alone. ;)

Lani - 1 lb. isn't bad. It could have been worse...I've seen that myself a few times. I think anytime you only gain 1 pound this time of year is quite an accomplishment.

Regina - The snowmen are cute!! I'm jealous. I need to try to go back and figure out how to change my avatar. I like the idea of having a holiday theme one. I also wanted to tell you I enjoyed the poem. That was a lot of typing.

All others - Hang in there, no one said it was going to be easy. Or fun. Kudos to all who lost, nice job!!

I have a question for you guys. I've seen Jog-Proof portable CD players. Have any of you guys tried these? I'm thinking of asking Santa for one. I thought it would be a great thing to take on the ship, so I can listen to CD's while I walk on board. I can't imagine having to exercise without music. I want to continue walking while on board. I just wonder if they are bad about skipping though. Can anyone help me on this?

Decorated the house today, and put up the tree. Tomorrow I have to start power shopping. My daughters birthday is the day after Christmas, so no matter how much I buy, it never seems enough when divided. I'm just now starting to get ideas for Mike too, they were a long time coming this year.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Nancy

I forgot to tell you guys - we watched a cute movie last night. The Terminal with Tom Hanks. Maybe all of you have already seen it...I realize I'm kinda out of it...but if by some chance you haven't seen it, rent it. Maybe I can ask Santa for that too. :D Better go before I get greedy.

Oh my gosh has this board been busy while I was "partying"!

Kelly, 11 days! I'll be you are so excited and to have not only met but exceeded your weight loss goal! You must be so pumped! Love the dress!

Connie and Jodie, I'm glad you are both on the mend! Jodie, I love your ritz cracker story. Men! Yes, the 7 pounds weight loss in a few days, you were likely dehydrated so it's good you put a few back on. Your total of 3 for the week is exceptional!

Lani, I'm glad that one pound up isn't getting you down. Sometimes that'll happen just with our monthly hormonal changes, then next weigh in will be extra good. It's so easy to get caught up in what that scale says. I, for one, do. I'm glad you're not.

Congrats on being down 2 Nancy!

Well, I'm not weighing in until tomorrow since that will be a full week since I decided to really buckle down. I did pretty well at yesterdays party but ended up "over" on my points so I have to make them up today. :( I will be living in veggie H*ll today but I have to stay focused. My calories in each day were less than my calories burned so, while I did go over on my ww points, at least my calories stayed within a range I likely didn't do any damage, just possibly slowed progress. I use fitday.com to log my intake and activities and it's awesome.

Welcome Tammy! As you probably know, I'm doing the weight watcher right now and am finishing up my first week of being back to it. I'm not enjoying it but I know it'll get easier. I'm a lifetime member, but fell off for a long while and just climbed back on last Tuesday.

When is your cruise and where? What ship?

Hi Ladies,
Got back last night from the Celebrity Millennium's 7 night caribbean cruise. It was awesome, and I think it was the best cruise I've ever taken (now 12 cruises). I know this is a weight 'loss' board and all of you helped me take off the 25 pounds pre-cruise, but I think I may be the all time 'gainer' from any cruise. I gained a total of 14.8 pounds!!!!!! It was my own fault.....ordered room service, then went to the buffet breakfast, then on to the main dining room for lunch, had an afternoon snack/tea, then evening cocktails and dinner finally served around 9pm. I never saw or cared to see the gym. It was the biggest eating binge I've ever been on, but it was worth every morsel. I'm determined to lose every pound of it and the diet and exercise start now!!!!

Kelly, I know that you are going soon. Don't make my mistakes!!!!

Regina, you really took the 'cruise weight' off fast. I'm gonna do it too.....

Happy Losing Everyone!

Runner Girl! Thanks for the quick welcome into your group. I am also a life timer at weight watchers. I orginally lost 80 lbs, but have regained 30.
If I can take off half of that before the cruise I will be thrilled.

We are sailing Carribean Princess on February 26th.

Wow you ladies are busy on this board. I had lots of reading to catch up! That's great! It's always fun to catch up!

I weigh in tomorrow so I will post the news then.

Thanks to ALL OF YOU for the great compliments on the dress - you sure know how to make a girl feel special!!

Regina - way to go on the 2lbs! I too can't wait to get to the 150's. Good for you!!

Kelly - way to just keep losing way past your goal! That's amazing!!! And your dress is spectacular also! I love it and I'm sure we'd all love to see you in it!

Connie - glad you're on the mend. And by the way I do not think 1lb of weight loss in a week is not slow at all - it's great! That's a whole pound!!! Good for you!!

Jodie - way to lose 3 lbs this week. Sorry you were ill but happy you're better! I hope after hauling the decorations out you lose the blues! I still need to bring all of ours out too and will probably do it today or tomorrow!

Nancy - great job on the 2lbs! Sounds like Christmas is super busy for you with your extra bday so close! The Terminal was a great film. Tom Hanks did a wonderful job acting. He may not have had too many lines but the ones he did were sure challenging - speaking all that Russian was great! About the cd players - just look for players with "anti-skip". It'll say how many seconds it is and the longer the seconds are the better.

Runner girl - way to stick with it for a whole week! That's the way to do it - just put week after week after week together! Good job. I also use fitday and I LOVE IT! Without it it would be hard to know exactly what you're taking in. It's great that you can put custom foods in it too! I'm nervous about my weigh in tomorrow too. I know I did good but I want it to blow me away! I am taking my 30-day pics tomorrow too and will be posting them on the beach body site for all to see! scarry hey? Then at day 60 & 90 also! Fingers crossed for you here - I"m sure you'll have done excellent!

Tammy - welcome! I was a late-comer too and everyone here is very welcoming, warm & extremely helpful! The support this thread provides is priceless! Enjoy!! & we look forward to hearing about your progress!

Ann - welcome back & glad you enjoyed yourself. You probably didn't gain that weight as just fat - it's probably mostly water retention from more sodium intake. Just get back at it and from what I know, a good chunk of it should come back off real quick! Good luck!

See you all tomorrow with my update!

Welcome back Ann! So glad you had fun on your cruise. Don't worry about the weight, it'll be back off in no time. The main thing is that you enjoyed your vacation!!

Thanks for the words of encouragement Dee. I really need them. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us.

[QUOTE=3xcruiser]Hey...Welcome back Susan! So good to here from you again. Frankly, I can't wait to get down to your weight! Sounds like you have been doing good.

Honestly, my biggest motivation to lose weight wasn't the actual numbers and that's one of the reasons I'm questioning if I should try to lose more. I realized a few months ago that I had gained twenty pounds in ten years and knew I had to stop it before my weight got out of control. Actually at one point during that time I was around 150lbs so I guess I had gained 30 lbs during that time period. Some of it was due to pregnancy and depo provera, but I should have worked to get it off when I went off the shot. Instead I just continued to let things slide (other than not taking the shot, which did cause me to srop 5 lbs or so.)

Once again I missed weigh in. I'm still staying right around 131-132.

Okay, after my first week of really being buckled down, I weighed in at 142.6. I guess I should be happy as that is a 2.4 loss from last week. I guess I'm still disgusted that as recently as October I was around 138 and in the summer, 135 and now I'm over 140. But, I ate myself up there and to lose 2.4 pounds in one week is quite an accomplishment. I only need to lose 1.08 pounds per week to reach my goal of 130 by the marathon and that should be doable if I stay focused.

Starting weight 11/30 145
Current weight 12/7 142.6
Goal 11/27 130

12.6 pounds to go

Dee, I sat here for about 10 minutes analyzing all my charts on Fitday! What a sicko.

Tammy-Welcome!! YOu have joined a great group!! I was following WW points, but have been VERY Lazy with it lately, but I think I will get back on it, runner ANN is motivating me!! I think I will check out fitday also.
ANN-Welcome back from the cruise, I am glad you had so much fun. I agree with everyone else, you should lose a large chunk of that weight fast.
Dee- I am anxious to hear how you did today!!
Susan-I am glad your doing better, I am in a bit of a Holiday funk, we are living in a new state with no family and only people we have just met, but I am trying to stay positive, I am even playing some Christmas music now.
Runner Ann-2.4 in 1 week is really great!! Just stay strong and you will make your goal!! (that's easy for me to say to you, but I have been struggling)

Connie, Dee, Ann and Jodie - Appreciate your words of encouragement. Yes, five pounds out of the fourteen have dropped off so far and hopefully the rest will follow. I'm settling back into the routine. My mom is leaving the nursing home on Saturday and moving in with me which means preparing three meals a day for her. I'm a little apprehensive about it - but will find some way to diet in spite of it all. I need to catch up and read the posts from the weekend. I wish all the 'losers' well!!!!

Ann - glad to hear the weight is coming off fast and I too am sure the rest will follow!

Ann: Welcome back and Congrats on endulging on your cruise! My understanding is....if you put it on fast...you can take it off fast! Hang in there....and thank you for the "heads up!" I'm going to have fun, but try not to get too far back up there! This has been such hard work for me! I know you know what I'm talking about!

WOW Dee, what a difference! I'm sure you must be feeling very pleased with your accomplishment (and should be) !! We all know this stuff isn't easy.

Connie, I am glad my incessant point counting is helpful to you. I seems to help me to whine about it so my counting and whining is helping two of us. Good! My poor husband gets to hear about it too. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about banking a bunch of stupid points this week though. I can just use my daily allotment if I want. I eat on average 1900 calories per day and I'm still so darn hungry. I guess I'm just a piggy!

Lani, I'm confused about why you're confused. Do you think 4 pounds is too much to have lost in 2 weeks? It's pretty fast but not unheard of.

Well, today's a new day. I've counted religiously for 8 days. 6 days until my next weigh in. Here's to continued success and more stickers on our calendars!

Lani-way to go on the loss!! I noticed you are going on the Voyager, I went on it about 4 years ago, the ship is awesome!! We loved it.
Runner Ann-Way to stick to those points!! I am hungry alot to, I guess I am a piggy also!! It is probably all the running you do!! I have been going to the gym everyday this week, but it is very hard after being sick!! Oh, I started doing the fitday thing yesterday, it is really cool!!

Lani: I'm SO excited...but just think...then I'll be home...and then YOU'LL HAVE YOUR CRUISE TO LOOK Forward to...and I can be jealous! :p

Runner Ann: I'm going to start using calendar stickers. How do you use them. I usually weigh myself every 4 days. When I started, I weighed 1 time per week and it seemed that I was losing 1 pound every 4 days, so then I started weighing every 4 days...and sure enough....it's true! 1 Pound every 4 days!! I weighed this am, and I'm down 1 more pound! I'm working so hard this last week before the cruise! So...explain (in kindergarten terms) how the points things work. How do I figure points? I usually stick to around 1000 calories a day and a light workout.

Connie: When I get hungry, I down a bottle of water! I drink SO MUCH water and I KNOW that has helped me. It really helps with the hunger as well (as well as keeping headaches at bay!) Try and see if that helps you!

Have a good afternoon, all!

Where are you, Regina? I hope you're out spending thousands on Christmas shopping! Check in when you can! I miss yoU! :D

Good morning everyone! I am think my body is finally releasing the weight. I am feeling better, aside from a stupid head cold I picked up. Due to the headcold, I sleep, sleep, sleep once I get home! I think sleep is the best medicine for most illnesses.

Connie, you like Fitday, huh. It gets less cumbersome the more you use it. As you add customized foods or use their "recent food" drop down it gets much faster as you log them. Also, after awhile, you kind of get to know how they name the foods so your search gets a little easier. That site has been a real eye opener. The trick is to be honest and stick with it even on days when you don't stick with your diet.

Kelly, you leave any day now, right? There's nothing like packing for vacation!
As for the stickers. I have a tougher time sticking with my diet than making sure I excersize. The excersize part I have down. So, I get a sticker on my calendar for each day I stick to my diet. For some dumb reason, I enjoy giving myself a sticker when I've done good. You could do that how you want. Give yourself 2 stickers when you excersize and stick to your diet and give yourself one if you do one or the other. But for me, I just do it for the eating. Controlling my eating is a much bigger challenge for me. The points system is a little harder to teach on a board like this. Basically, each day you get a certain number of points to use for food each day. In my case, it's 23 points. Most foods have a point value. So the points are kind of like money. You have 23 points to spend on food each day and you slice it and dice it as you like. Things that are higher in fiber and lower in fat have fewer points. Most fruits have only 1 point and most veggies have 0 points. I eat a lot of veggies! Excersize brings you more points to spend. I figure I get 1 point for each mile run or each 10 min of vigorous cardio excersize. No extra points for lifting weights. So that's what I'm talking about when I'm moaning and groaning about all this point counting. The days I don't excersize are truly the hardest.

Great job on the pound every 4 days! 1000 calories per day, I think I'd die, or I'd want to. ;)

Good Morning everyone!!

Kelly, I will try to drink more water, I used to drink quite a bit of diet pepsi, but now I am so busy trying to get the water in I hardly ever drink the pepsi, it;s like a special treat.
Runner Ann-I hope you feel better soon, I am still struggling with my cold. On the fitday, when I put in the excercise time and what I did the calories burned seemed low, at least according to what the treadmill says I burned when I do it. Have you noticed that at all??
I have to share with you guys, I am very excited. I am going to start working again in January. Since I started having kids and moving around with the ARmy I have only worked for 2 years (about 3 1/2 years ago)when I was in Florida. I worked at a cruise agency selling cruises and tours. I have to say it was the funnest job I ever had, well the agency has a program I can do it from my home now, they give me a phone that hooks thru the computer right into the office in Florida and I can do it from anywhere, so I can start here in Kansas and in June when I move it will work wherever I go!! Also, I will be home when my kids are off school.!! I am really excited about it. Well, just had to share that with you guys!!
Hope you all have a great day. Connie

Wow Connie! That is so cool! Congratulations! I can't think of anything more ideal! I have noticed that the calories burned for activities seem on the low side. I don't have anything else that calculates my calories burned but it does seem lower than I thought. I'm just going with it though, I figure that keeps me on the safe side. I am feeling much better. Glad your feeling better Runner Ann!! Your right, better to figure the calories low. I went to a cookie exchange/bunko game last night in my neighborhood, I didn't eat one bite of anything there, or any cookies!! I ate a big salad before I left. Connie: Congrats on your new job! That sounds PERFECT for you! I'm happy for you! Really Exciting!

Runner Ann: THANK YOU SO MUCH for the crash course in points! I now have a much better understanding of the overall jest of the whole deal! It was hard before when I didn't understand it! I'm sorry you're not feeling well! I agree....sleep cures most every ailment in the world....and I sleep ALL THE TIME! ;)

I had quite the food fest yesterday and worked from 6:00 in the morning to 9:00 last night! I was so tired! I had my usual breakfast bar (220 calories)and water, but then work got stressful and I ate an ENTIRE SNICKERS BAR ....280 calories! YIKES...that was probably like 4,000 point, huh, Ann!? Then I had a rather big lunch for me (380 calories) and some grapes and then for my night time meeting, they brought in SUBWAY SANDWICHES! I went to the bathroom and by the time I came back, all that was left was ham and cheese! I didn't put mustard or mayo on it and it was only 6 inches, but it still seemed like a lot to me (I used to eat foot long ones and then want more!) I think I went WAY over 1000 calories yesterday, but that's ok! I'll just watch it today! The snickers bar kindof made me mad!

Finishing the Christmas shopping today and then finishing packing this weekend! I have 3 more days of work, and I leave on Thursday at 8:00 in the morning! I can't WAIT!

Have a good day all....and where are you?

Kelly, a 6" ham subway sub has 290 calories, only 5 grams of fat and only 1.5 of those fat grams are saturated.

http://www.subway.com/applications/NutritionInfo/nutritionlist.aspx?CountryCode=USA&ID=sandwich

I would venture to guess your breafast bar at 4 points. The Snickers bar was 5 or 6 points. The 6" ham sub is 5 points. I don't know what you had for lunch but the grapes were 1 point. Looks to me like you did pretty well. I doubt you exceeded 23 points. :)

Sounds like you did pretty well. I wouldn't worry about that Subway Sub, I would worry about that 1000 calories per day, though. That's not even enough to sustain just your basal metabolism. You might force your body to slow it's metabolism down, which means you'll gain weight fast when you stop doing this. You might want to gradually increase a little, at least to 1200. I'm not being critical, just concerned.

Well, I finished my Christmas shopping today (I think  ) Tomorrow, after my run, I hope to get some decorating done, but I'll be babysitting my granddaughter, so I don't know. I may be able to get some of it done while she's napping. Assuming she takes a nap for me.

Runner Ann: Thanks for your concern! Seriously! You are a fabulous friend! My mom and I sat down and had this same talk last night because I was getting a little concerned about my program. As of yesterday, I was down to 127...and that is pretty quick over such a short amount of time (Since sept 22 where I was 149). As I've stated before, I've recently been having seizures that I've had to start taking medications for and a new med that I've started in the last 2 weeks has a weight loss side effect, so I'm going to take your's (and mom's and my neurologist's) advice and up my calorie intake. I walk SO MUCH at work, and so to eat less is not doing me any good, because I'm burning more calories than I am taking in! Thank you so much for paying such close attention to me, Ann. Seriously! I really appreciate it! :)

I'm actually looking forward to gaining a little weight on my cruise! Woo hoo!

Have a great Saturday, All!

Good Morning-Wow, Kelly and Ann, I wish I was done with my Christmas shopping!! I am slowly getting there. My husband decorates like the Griswalds, it takes him several days so he has pulled everything out and it has invaded my house!! Oh well.
Yesterday I had to go out to lunch and dinner with 2 different couples. I tried to be good, it was tough. At lunch I ate my sandwich but no fries, and dinner I had Italian, I only ate half and brought the rest home. I did break down and eat a half a piece of fudge my neighbor made. tonight we have a party to go to,I am going to eat a salad or soup before I go so I am not starving, hope that works!!
Kelly, I agree with Ann you are doing great, don't worry, your body needs more calories some days so it doesn't think you are starving.

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been here all day. My sister in law is in town, so last night we had a girls night out-all the girls in the family and that always is followed by a pajama party at my house. It was fun! Then I was watching my granddaughter all day today. That was fun too! We got our Xmas decorations up today! I am so happy! I was a little worried about doing that with a 14 month old around but she took a 2 1/2 hour nap and when she was up, she really didn't cause a problem with the tree, so that was good.

The eating, I was a little over yesterday. I think. When I'm not sure, I count high. Today, I made up two points and tomorrow I'll make up the other 4. What a pain, but I guess this is what it takes to keep from blowing up.

Kelly, I'm glad you accepted what I said in the spirit in which it was meant. I hope the siezures stop for you. Gee! You leave in just a few days! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Hey Connie! Nice job on behaving during all those outings. Gosh that's so hard to do. Especially if the person across from you is digging in! I had to do that yesterday too. I went a little over, but I was still practicing restraint. Had I not been, I'd have been hopelessly over today!

Tomorrow, we go and cut down a Christmas tree for our oldest daughter. Looking forward to it. They have horse drawn wagons that take you out to the tree field. Then they bring you back and you can go inside the barn, drink hot chocolate and sing Christmas Carols by the fire. They have a piano player. It's always alot of fun. Can't wait. We're taking the baby and I'm looking forward to introducing her to all the family holiday traditions.

(I hope folks don't mind me checking in...)

Start weight: 265 (8/1/2001)
Goal range: 158 - 169 (3/18/2002)
Last week: 171.5
This week: 170.5

This is always a tough time of year, though my current struggle to get back in my goal range started well over a year ago when I stopped cycling. I did my best to fill the gap, but the reality is that my weight is very-much dependent on my exercise. I've taken up step aerobic with a lot more dedication now (our steps came in a few days ago) and hopefully that, with a lot of diet discipline, will help me get back in range and stay there.

However, putting aside the normal stresses of managing diet and exercise, this is still always a tough time of year. The weight-loss program I lost my weight on always played the "Holiday Guilt Trip" tape this time of year. It is a 8 minute phone call (from 1992, I think) from the mother of one of the program's participants, laying it on thick and heavy about how it's only once a year (a whole month, of course, that only comes once a year), and how you can't live like that, blah blah blah. :)

Credit to everyone who stuck to your guns and kept with whatever your chosen program is! Your health is of paramount importance, and your obligations to yourself, and to your ability to best serve your obligations to your family and friends long into the future trumps any guilt-trip that takes a short-term view. You need to be there for your family for years to come, and the healthier you are the better you can be there for them. They'll get over you passing up some pie or cake! :)

Original Goal (by 12-16-04): 135
Goal After I Reach the Realistic Goal: 125

As posted earlier here, I think a big part of a lot of my weight loss here this week is the new medication for my seizures and the lack of calorie increase with that new medication. I'm ok with the weight, but a little freaked by how fast it came off! At least I have some GAIN ROOM for the cruise! :p

We leave on Thursday of this week! WOO HOO!

I just finished wrapping all of my gifts and the last of my decorating. I'm finishing packing this afternoon and we're going to do the last minute cruise shopping for the "essential" list.

Bicker: Congrats on your success! Your words of wisdom are wonderful, and will be printed and added to my collection of wise thoughts! I'm glad you checked in! :)

REGINA!!: Glad you checked in! I've missed you! Hey 2 more pounds! YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!! I'm inspired by how you keep your eye on the goal! Good for you! I have a question.....should I pack anything for that sea lice thing? I don't want to be itchy! Let me know!

Connie: Way to go! Any loss of FABULOUS! I can't wait to see the results of the Griswald Decorating! We had 75 mph winds here the last couple of days and our Griswald neighbors are rallying the troops to herd up all the decorations around the neighborhood! I think we'll join in later this morning! :p

Ann: Have a FABULOUS sleigh ride! How fun and exciting! What a wonderful tradition! I can't wait to hear how it goes! Tell us all about it!

Have a FABULOUS SUNDAY!

Beautifully worded and I whole heartedly agree!

Re: Sea Lice
I used cortisone cream to ease the burning sensation created by coming in contact. My symptoms were gone by the next morning.

Have a great day everyone and I will post as my schedule permits.

Awesome group, this is great so i will join you guys in this battle. I didn't get to read all these post but biker i did read your and i congratulate you for your nice stats and hope you can get to goal soon. My name is Glory and i live in Connecticut, happily married and mother of 3 wonderful kids: Jose (15), Alex (12) and Ivonne (11). I joined weight watchers 7 months ago and have lost a total of 29.6 (as we use ounces too). I will keep my ww weight since its more accurate but i had started before on my own and had lost about 5 pounds. My start weight was 239.8 (2 ounces for 240) and since September i've been struggling with my weight i guess i got too comfortable with the comments about the weight loss but i've been sticking to the program though not as faithful as i should. I started working out again, i do 30 minutes in the treadmill, 10 minutes warm ups and 40 minutes on the machines 5 days a week and it's been helping. My goal is at least 150 but for ww is 144 so we'll see. I hope to get to meet you guys and to keep in touch. I had started a thread about a ww cruise in september is on Carnival Fascination someone from the ww boards had started the group. If anyone is interested can find on this board. Good luck to all!!

Welcome Glory! I'm glad you found us! We weigh in every Sunday and then check in throughout the week! I hope to find you with us continually!

Regina: Thank you for your "lice" wisdom! I will pack some! :) It's nice to see you here! I SO MISS your posts! I realize more and more how much they mean to me, and your rallying of the troops has always been helpful to my weight loss! I'm feeling lost without you! :(

CM: Congrats on staying the same! Not easy this time of year! Way to go!

Connie: I forgot to comment on Hooters for the 10th birthday party! I nearly fell off the chair laughing! The boy is growing up fast!

Have a nice evening everyone! I may not be posting as much this week, so in case I forget to say it before I leave for the cruise....
Happy Holidays! I'll be thinking of you all!

I finally broke the plateau I was on. I'm only down one pound to 131, but after a month of staying the same that's enough. I don't think it's just fluctuating either since I've been sitting at 131 for the last few days. The only thing I've done different is up my water intake. Sad to say I still haven't been able to get back on track with exercise.

I found out yesterday and this morning that I can't overindulge in baked goods anymore. I had a friend and her kids over to bake cookies yesterday and got into them after they left. I don't think I had near as many as I normally would have, but I still got a sugar high (started feeling nauseous and lightheaded) yesterday. This morning I woke up in a major funk. DH commented that this is the second time I've done this after eating alot of refined carbs the day before.

Kelly, I agree you probably need to up your calories, especially with this new medication. I hope you get your seizures under control soon.

I noticed somebody's upcoming cruise is on Carnival Miracle. My father in law is talking about wanting to leave out of Tampa instead of Port Canaveral this September so we'd be switching from RC's Mariner of the Seas to Miracle. I'd love to get any opinions on Miracle or it's sister ships. We've sailed Royal Caribbean once before and enjoyed it.

Our weight-loss program always impressed on us that baked good were just-plain-evil. :D

Seriously, there is a lot to be said for eating a variety of foods, and many folks don't believe in eliminating whole classes of food, etc., etc. In the end, I've never met anyone who's lost a substantial of weight and kept it off while eating lots of Krispy Kremes. It just doesn't work out that way, unfortunately. There are ways, I've found, to enjoy chocolate, meat, and even pasta, still while remaining pretty fit. However, baked goods -- nope -- haven't found a place in my healthy life for 'em.

YMMV, of course!

I agree with you. I can actually eat bread products if they are whole grain. Just can't eat the processed stuff in a large or even moderate quantity now. Most of the time I don't miss the baked goods either. In fact I baked yesterday simply because I enjoy baking. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the cookies. LOL. I did ok this afternnon by just eating one cookie, so unless the boys pick up on eating them I won't have to bake again this season. Interestingly enough the sweet potato pie I fixed at Thanksgiving didn't give me a problem. I only had one piece with the crust, but the other pieces I had (more than I should have) didn't give me the sugar high.

I just found this ww snack (almost tiny bites) of chocolate cake with fudge and also carrot cake and they are only 1 point each and got rid of my sweet tooth right away. I love finding options for sweets especially when T.O.M. is around. Thank God i don't bake and try not to buy full fat snacks for the house, i feel bad for the kids but if they don't have snacks they'll find mine and make sure they get rid of them, they are my little eating monsters.

Good morning everyone! Wow! Looks like weightlosses all the way around! Congratulations especially to svwkirby for staying focused during a month long plateau! Patience and diligence does pay off!

Welcome Glory! We have a great group here and we're thrilled to have you join us!

I don't weigh in until tomorrow but I feel pretty confident this week. I more than made up any overages I might have had earlier in the weekend yesterday so I feel good about that. My average calories per day are still around 1900 but my averaged burned is now up to about 2500.

We had a great day yesterday out at the tree farm with dogs and baby cutting down a tree, singing Xmas carols. The baby's favorite part was singing!

I agree with what you guys are saying about baked goodies. I don't think they really qualify as a food group! ;) They are just a treat. I find that once I start on that stuff it's a slippery slope downhill! I've been avoiding that stuff for the last two weeks and I've noticed I've had little trouble staying within my daily ww allotment of points. When I start on that stuff, it's a struggle. This second week has been much easier. The bakery demons stopped calling me this week!

Have a great Monday everyone!! :D

Good Morning Everyone!!

Great job everyone on the losses or staying the same. It is really such a hard time of year. I think yesterday I gained the 1 pound I lost, between the chicken wings, and my sons choclate chip cookie cake (I was not gonna have any, but broke down) but today is another day:p I agree with you all on the sweets, I have put off baking, but this week I will, I am better off not even having 1, because if I taste it I want more.
Glory-Welcome to the group!! Everyone is great here.
Susan-I am booked on the Miracle for June, my parents live by Tampa and are watching the boys for me. I have read alot of reviews on it, and they are all very positive. I went on the Carnival Glory, Triumph and Ecstasy and have enjoyed them all. I alos went to the RC Voyager (awesome ship!!) but enjoyed the Carnival ones just as much. I am happy on any ship!!
Well gotta get moving, have a great day!! Connie

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Kelly that really sucks getting sick before your cruise, just make sure you take care of it now. Runner girl, great to have ww company. I've been trying to stay away from potatoes, rice and pasta until i can losen up this plateau i've been on since September, it's driving me insane. In order for me to be able to cruise again i need to have my tummy tuck done, need to save up some more time and extra money for the bills. Then i can move on and get my behind back in a cruise. I love rci that why i am afraid to go to carnival but looking at some pictures it looks pretty cool. Can't wait!!

Kelly, I am so sorry you are sick! Don't try to push yourself now. Sleep is the best medicine. Sleep the next two days, you have the day before you leave to finish packing. Anything else can wait until you get back.

Glory, I am trying to avoid white breads and white pastas. I am fine with potatoes, carrots, bananas etc. They are natural and loaded with good nutrients-assuming they aren't fried or loaded with butter or something else. It's the sweets I really need to give a wide berth to! It's great to have a buddy in point counting!!

At work we have our own cafeteria free of charge and pretty much they match everything with potatoes, pasta and rice so i avoid them but i eat them couple of time per week. The rest of the stuff i shoved them with no problem. Have you tried the new snacks from ww? the carrot cake one and the chocolate icing cake, there are also muffins. I bought them the other day and even though they are tiny the fulfill some of that sweet tooth. Good luck on your wi mine is Thursday. To all have a wonderful day!!

Great news everyone! I weighed in this morning and I'm down 4.6 pounds from last week!! I had felt so much better this week and I knew my body had released some weight, but I was still nervous weighing in this morning!

Start weight 11/30/04 145
weigh in 12/07/04 142.6
weigh in 12/14/04 138

Total loss=7 pounds!

Now, if I could just drop one pound per week, I'd be thrilled. I haven't been below 138 in about a year and below 135 in 3 years, so these pounds will be harder, I think.

Thanks, all of you, for your support! It really has helped!

Glory, I haven't tried any of those ww desserts. Right now, I'm trying to stay away from dessert, period. When I get to maintenance, I may give those a try. One thing I have really liked is Skinny Cows. They are ice cream sandwiches, they come in many flavors and they are only 2 points. Yum!

Hi all,

I am very tardy in posting....sorry for the delay. I think I lost another 2 last week, but not sure. I'm getting conflicting results. I was only able to walk 4 days last week, so I think that threw me off big time. I purposely took off on Tuesday to give the 'ol bod a rest, then was sick Wed. & Thursday. Scales looked good Sunday morning, but not so hot yesterday and today. Guess that's what I get for weighing more than once!! I didn't think it was possible to lose 2 pounds with only 4 days of walking though. Guess we'll see what this Sunday brings.

Kelly - I hope you are feeling better. Zinc tablets really help with cold symptoms, although it might be a little late in starting them. Guess they couldn't hurt at this point though. Like the others said, lots of rest, lots of fluids. At least you got sick before you left and not on your trip, something to be thankful for. I hope you have a great time on your trip, I'm going to miss you. We want to hear all about it when you get home.

Glory and Meaghan - Welcome to the group. The gals really are great here. Besides, if I can get off this extra weight, anyone can. Meaghan, we leave in Feb. also. 7 more weeks. Not that I'm counting. Glory, your pictures are great. We're sailing on the Brilliance this time, a sister ship to the Radiance I believe. Anyhow, it was fun to look at your pictures. I think all that drinking is what started getting me in trouble in the first place. I have 10 more pounds to lose before we go, so I can start that whole disaster all over again. Something about the climate, the scenery, the location....it just sucks me in...I amaze myself with my alcohol intake on vacation. Good thing we don't do it often. I'd be a fat drunk for sure.

Everyone else - You guys did great this week. Especially you Ann. Great job!!! The next two weeks are going to be the hardest. I've stayed away from temptations so far, I figure if I don't start, I don't know what I'm missing. It's working so far...guess we'll see.

Hi all,
I am not reporting in this week as I have not even thought about the scale or the diet. It has not been a good week for me. My mother who has been ill took a turn for the worse last week and I have been up in Seattle since Wed evening. Her kidneys are shutting down. She did rally a bit this weekend. I think to say goodbye to all of us. She got to see most of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and children over the weekend. Today she was less coherent and not as perky. She is tired of fighting and wants to "Go Home." She is 80 and had a good life. She sent us all home today to be with our families. I believe I will be getting the call in the next couple of days but she was adamant about us not sitting around in the hospital. We are abiding her wishes. My sister went back home to Texas, my brother back home to Mississippi and I am back here in Oregon. My other sister lives in Seattle. So I may not be posting very often this week. I just wanted to let you all know.
KELLY_ You have a wonderful trip! I want to hear all about it when you get back.

Jodie, I am sorry to hear you going through all this. This is definitely part of life and we all go through it, but it is very hard when it's your turn. I lost my mom 4 years ago so as I read your post, I clearly relive some of the feelings. My prayers are with you.

Glory, I missed the pictures. Did you post them here?

I had a thought yesterday morning. I have 8 pounds to go and I know the next pounds are going to be frustrating. The closer you are to your 'ideal' weight, the harder it is. Here's what I thought about yesterday morning. We really shouldn't set a goal that indicates # of pounds lost by a certain date. We really can't control that. What we can control is what we do. A better goal is to stay "on program" for a full week. Or, if you are struggling like I was for awhile, to stay "on program" for one full day. We have a choice every day. The choice is to stick to our programs or not to, to go to gym or skip the gym. If we make the right choices each day, that should be the victory. We don't decide when and at what pace our bodies decide to release the weight. Our bodies control that.

This week, the tough stuff starts. Thursday we are having a pig out at work. I think I will bring my 0 point vegetable soup. I love that stuff and so do most other people. Saturday we are going to a Christmas party and we may have one to go to Sunday too. Monday, my work group is having our annual Christmas lunch and leaving the office early to hang out. I am going to try to stay on program through all this by banking points this week and making good choices. We'll see. It seems to be getting easier. OH, I'm baking this weekend too. I don't even know why I am baking either. I just want to get rid of all the cookies so I don't eat them  ! I probably won't make as many as I usually do.

Runner: Expressing our objectives in terms of our own behaviors, rather than in terms of external metrics such as weight, is a very good idea. The weight-loss program I used was very numbers-oriented, but the numbers that they focused on most often were "number of days of exercise in a week," "number of servings of fruit and vegetables per day," etc. The more granular the metrics, the more effective I felt they were.

We did learn, though, that not even "perfect behavior" would result in achieving a healthy weight. Eventually, we'd be challenged to raise our performance with respect to one or more of the metrics, maybe increasing our physical activity, getting some habitual eating behavior under control, etc.

So I feel a combination of both perspectives is best: Focus, day-to-day, on doing things correctly, living within the program, etc. Then, say monthly, think about whether it is time to upgrade your overall objectives.

Hello Everyone,
Nancy-Sounds like you are doing good, I weigh myself everyday, and I don't know why, because like you it is down than up , etc. and I let it get to me somedays!!

Jodie-I am so sorry to hear about your mother, you are in my prayers.

Runner Ann-I like what you said about not worrying so much about numbers but how you do on your program, daily, weekly etc. Also, sometimes the weight doesn't go down, but the clothes fit better!!

Meaghan-Just stick with your program, and by Feb. 6 you will look Fabulous!!
I did a roll call for my cruise and did not get any replies either, but mine is not until June 26th.

Well, I think I am out of my rut, I had a great day yesterday, I pulled out all the WW stuff and wrote everything down, and had 23 points!!
I am off to hopefully finish my shopping!! Connie

I went on Weight Watchers in Sept. of 2002 and by Oct. 2003, I lost 60 pounds. I could have done this faster, but I wasn't always loyal. I know WW has introduced a new program and I'm not sure about that, but I highly reccomend the Points System, since you can still eat things that are traditionally considered "bad" for you (pizza, Krispy Kreme's, etc.). You just have to learn to eat in moderation (smaller portions are truly the key to success, I think).

I have now gained back 30 pounds of that and want to lose it (as well as more :) ). My husband and I just decided to book a cruise on the Victory at the end of January and I'm not sure how much of my 30 I can lose by then, by I'm going to give it my best shot!!!

Hello girls!!

First of all, Jodie eventhough i don't know you, i will keep your Mom in my prayers, it's definately a very difficult time but the best part is that first she is ready and second there's no better place than heaven, it's a safe and always happy place, no pain and no suffering.

Runner, my pictures are on my signature. They are from my cruise back in March on the Radiance, not many since i lost a whole bunch with my other pc, that was very frustrating. BTW, after that cruise was when i decided that i needed to lose weight, i was at my highest and i hated it. I refuse to post the picture with the Captain on webshots since on that picture i look so big, i hate it! I only use it to remind myself that that life is over and that woman there is someone else.

Meg, did you check other pages? Sometimes there are roll calls already going. When we went on our cruise we got to meet some couples from here, about 3 other couples and we had a great time.

Connie, with ww you definately need to be loyal otherwise we know how to screw up very easily. I started working out again recently, if i use all of my flexies i don't go over my daily target. I have been pretty good the last few weeks. Making sure you drink the water, exercise and write everything down is the key to sucess, of course, that's beside the good eating habits and portion control. I love the program. It's the only one that has worked for me.

Lawyergirl, the same that i wrote to Connie i tell you. Try going to the ww boards maybe sign up online, if it worked for you before it will work again you just got to be determined to lose the weight, and not just for the cruise but for yourself. Good luck!

To everyone, enjoy your afternoon.

Hugs,

I guess my point about the objectives is to set them in a way in which we really can control whether or not we meet them. Remember, if our calorie intake drops too low relative to the number we burn, our basal metabolism will drop. We do have to be a little patient with out bodies.

Wow! It's great to have all these fellow weight watchers here! I don't know what their new program is. I was an active member 4 years ago and first learned their 1-2-3 program, then I learned flex points. I follow 1-2-3. It worked for me then, it works for me now. My body has no idea ww changed their rules. I haven't been to a ww meeting in a year now. I don't know what the new thing is. I hope they aren't making certain foods completely off limits-like white flour. What I always liked about ww was that you choose. Lawyergirl, welcome. As for the 30 pounds, as I said before, stay on your program and lose what you can. 30 pounds by end of January is not realistic, but you may be able to drop 6-10 by then and that would be worthwhile! Meg, welcome too.

Connie, glad you are out of your rut! Keep counting! The first week is the absolute hardest. I'm on my third week of focused counting and I can't believe how much easier it is now than that first week!

This week, I am all about banking points for the weekend again. We have a party Saturday night and a party Sunday night this week. We are also having a "pig out" day at work today. I had planned on making some good 0 point vegetable soup to bring, but I was just too tired last night. I'll stop and get a veggie tray on the way to work. Lame, I know. One of the girls made homemade candy and chocolates and brought us each a tin of them for Christmas. I thought it was such a nice thing for her to do, but what am I going to do with them. Then the evil thought entered my mind. REGIFT!!
I will take them in to my hairdresser after work tonight :D I know, I'm bad, but niether of us wants to eat that stuff.

Have 5 weeks to go till our vacation starts so I'm hoping for another 10 b4 we leave. Then I must lose 2 a week to guarantee that. I hope i do!!

Hello to all the girlys in da house. I was sooo excited today i had to come in and share the good news. Everyone at the meeting was as surprised as i was. Last week i had gained 2 pounds (thanks to T.O.M.)and i've been in a plateau since September, well today i was down 7.2 pounds for a total of 36.4. I've been going to the gym and cutting back on the things i eat the most: white rice, pasta and potatoes. And all that has made the difference plus if i use my flex points i will try not to use my activy points or go over my point target. So i've been behaving pretty good the last 2 weeks.

I've been wondering if you guys have problems receiving the postings from this board. I get some old ones and once in a while i get this one but not as they are supposed to, as soon as posted. I have to come in and check the messages all the time : ( It really doesn't matter but i like to know when there's a new posting.

In regards of the TurnAround Program which is the new ww program it consists of the 2 different choices of programs, flex or core. I have tried both and i prefer flex since i need the responsibility of writing down everything and keeping track of everything. With core you don't journal, only the 35 weekly point allowance. There's no counting only eating from a huge list of wholesome foods and when you eat, you eat until "satisfied" and that's the trick of this whole program. Knowing when to be satisfied is very difficult so you kind of got to think while eating. The list provided by ww tell you which items are core and which ones aren't. You can eat as many core foods as you want and what ever is not core you got to add the points. Plus you can eat wheat pasta, brown rice or potatoes without counting points as long as is one of them per day. Anything else you will have to add. Most meats are core but they must be lean cuts or chicken and fish. So you can eat them until "satisfied". Example of the list are:
skim milk, veggies, fruits, some cereals and some popcorn, oatmeal, grits, soy cheese and the list goes on and on. It's interesting. Good luck!

I have not been on computer due to my holiday schedule, and it's impossible for me to respond to each individual post, so generally speaking: welcome to the new comers, congrats to all who remain focused on their diets and good luck to all with the upcoming festive celebrations and all the temptations they present.

Added note specifically for Jodie: My mother passed away on Dec. 13th five years ago at the age of 72. It didn't feel like Christmas to me that year, but time is a wonderful healer as it causes the heartbreak to ease, leaving sweet memories that create smiles through each season.

My heart goes out to you and your family during your difficult time this holiday season and I pray you are comforted by your faith in God.

Sincerely,
Regina

Hello everyone,

Well, after this last 2 weeks I now know the secret to weight loss!!!

You need to do what I just did:

Decide (spur of the moment) to put your house up for sale (in December no less) and move across town.....thinking that at this time of year it would probably take awhile to sell....only to find out it sold in ONE day!!

I have lost 4 pounds this week!!!! My husband has even made comments that he is noticing my weight loss. I just hope I don't regain the weight again once I have time to eat again!

P.S.
Welcome to all the new posters!

Happy Holidays!

Good Morning Everyone-
Dee-way to go, 2 more pounds!!
Glory-wow!! 7.2 pounds, way to go. I think one of the biggest mistakes people make is when they hit a plateu or a rut dieting, they give up instead of sticking with it. Way to go!!
Evonne-Don't you love when your husband notices?? Congrats on selling your house so fast.
Ann-Good job on the pig out day! It is hard but always feels good when you get through it without doing bad.
Lisa-I went on the Glory last November, I loved it!!
Regina-good to hear from you!!
Well, 3 days now I have stuck within my points, I made the mistake of getting on the scale and it hasn't budged, but next week my "curse" is coming, hopefully that is the reason.

Ladies, thanks for the kind words. Now that I have lost some weight, I have joined a woman's gym to combine with my diet. Prior to losing, I couldn't even exercise without getting out of breath.

My point is: Even though it's not easy, don't give up because it is so worth the refusal of those cookies, cakes, and all the rest.

Be back tomorrow for weigh in.

Thanks for the inspiration Regina! WOW!! What a change! That's amazing. That's great that you've now joined a gym. You are right, you couldn't have 5 months ago. If you would have tried then, it may have just discouraged you.

Now, I am disgusted with myself. Yesterday, I took the day off and got most Christmas packages wrapped, which was good. Then DH and I went out to dinner. I had a nice grouper salad and two glasses of wine. That would've been fine. But Oh No! We were in the holiday spirit then and decided to go hit the wine bar. I had 2 more glasses of wine + we shared a cheese/bread tray. Now I have a hangover and I'm over on my points by about 12.
I must say, I WAS still hungry after eating my salad, but I'd have been better off drinking water and maybe eating a baked potatoe to fill me up. Well, I'll just have to try to make up 4 points per day, today, tomorrow and Monday. That will be very hard since we have parties to go to.

I agree don't beat yourself up, since i am with you on this one. We went partying on Thursday and had so many beers (empty calories, you know...) can't even remember. Then had so much cheese (my dh family which is from the Dominican Republic just sent us tons of cheese, baked goods and crackers from there) and because we never have those goodies around i've been a little bad but i know that i am back on track and that those kind of things wont put me down. It's amazing how we beat ourselves up while the "skinny" ones don't mind eating cheese and crackers, as long as we get back the next day we can "cheat" once in a while.

Hey everyone,

Jodie, so sorry to hear about your mom. I'm getting ready to go to my grandparents with my mom two days after Christmas and apparently grandma's all ready emotinal because she doesn't think she'll get another chance to see me after this. She'll turn 80 while I'm there.

Kelly, I can't believe I didn't get back on here before you left. I'm sure you're enjoying your cruise by now.

Regina, you've done wonderful! The current picture looks great.

Welcome to all the newbies, this really is a great group. Unfortunately I don't get here as often as I'd like. I'll have to work on that in the new year.

I like the idea of setting goals for things you can control as opposed to numbers. Maybe that's because of getting stuck for so long though. I do think I'm going to revise my weight goal to 125 instead of 120 though. Other than not being toned up, I'm pretty happy with how I look now. That's telling me I need to work on increasing exercise and I might need to focus on going into maintenance on South Beach instead of working on losing.

See y'all for weighin tomorrow.

Nice weigh in Regina! Those numbers just keep dropping! Susan, you're right, sometimes it's best to adjust the goals. If you start lift weights you may note a small weight gain. Don't panic if you've stayed on program. It's muscle. Now if you start lifting and start eating cookies and drinking eggnog, then that's another story ;)

Yesterday, we had a 16 miler scheduled for our marathon training. With that, I managed to work off 12 of my 16 pointe overage from Friday. So if I conserve 2 today and 2 tomorrow, I should be good by my Tuesday weigh in. I gotta tell ya, running 16 miles after a night at the wine bar is not my idea of fun. But the weather yesterday was beautiful and we knew we had a winter storm on the way (which is here by the way) and I didn't want to do 16 miles in a winter storm.

Okay, I'm off to write a shopping list, go to church, go to the gym, go shopping, make a veggie tray and go to a party. I'll see you all tomorrow!

Well, I'm back to 132. So much for breaking that plateau. I haven't been as strict as I should have with my eating this week and I don't think I exercised at all. A lot of it has been not caring since I know I'm not going to be able to eat right at my grandparents. Mom's all ready told me a lot of what they eat now is processed food and not whole grain. Ordinarily on vacation I'd try to stay on my way of eating, but I don't feel like this is one of those times.

Ill be missing the next two weighins since I'll be gone. I'll try to check in befir Christmas Eve though. Just in case I don't though, hope everyone who celebrates has a Merry Christmas.

Connie, running 2 1/2 miles IS awesome! It took me a very long time to build up to the mileage I do and what I do is way over the edge for normal fitness. I just have this love of doing marathons and that's the what you have to do to train for one. Don't ask me why I lover doing them so much, I just do.

Doing good on the points today. I've only consumed 18 so far and I have 27 available and that will even get me out of the hole from Friday night. Me neither, Connie, but I just have to put up with it. DH and I were all set to move to Florida as soon as some property we have out in the country sold. The property never sold. In the meantime 2 of our 3 kids moved back to Ohio. One of them with our only grandchild. The most adorable little princess of a 14 month old, you ask me ;). I can't move now. Ah! Kids!

Glad to see you are back on track. I am doing fine, but frustrated with the weather. I am supposed to run 9 miles but we have freezing rain outside. I think I'll run after work 4 miles on the treadmill (if that doesn't make me go bonkers!) then do a spinning class.

Hi Ann, Way to go!! 9 miles is awesome. It is such a mind game somedays isn't it? Me and DH went to the gym and it wasnt opening until 12:00, so didn't make it, but went skiing, I read you burn 7 calories a minute skiing, so it is a good workout, of course I stayed on the little hill except one time my son talked me into riding the chair lift to the steeper one, once I got there I panicked ( I guess it is the height thing) so I was skooting down a little on my but, and my DH caught me, he thought I fell and broke somthing:eek: He thinks I am nuts, because I am doing good on the hill that is just a little smaller, oh well, he just can't understand. That's a funny story, Connie. I tried skiing twice. The first time, I was 18 and we went to a small ski hill near our home. I stayed on the bunny hill and after a little while did okay. We had fun and planned to do it again but never did because of the cost. Later, when I as 25 or 26 a group of us went to Holiday Valley in NY. Of course, the group didn't want to park where the bunny hill was so we went to another area. They pointed me to the easiest hill but it was too much for me. After making a scene on the ski lift (not gracefully glided off when I was supposed to and jumping off late), I took about 2 hours to get down the hill. I was holding trees, I was falling onto my butt intentionally. I just couldn't figure out how to slow my skis. Yes, I was told to turn, problem is, I don't even know how to do that. Spent the rest of the day in the lodge. Have never tried it since!

I may give cross country skiing a shot this year but no more downhill for me. DH doesn't ski either so I guess there's no real reason.

Where do you live, Connie?

Welcome back Kelly! We missed you! Congratulations on making it through without gaining weight. The rule about the stairs is a very good one! I'll try that, but we are running a marathon the morning of the cruise (26.2 miles) and stairs may really be hard!

http://www.mardigrasmarathon.com/

Well, I weighed in this morning and was disappointed to see +.8. I've stayed within my points range or made up all overages and have excersized every day. I mean, I obsessively count points and journal. So, I suppose it is just one of those hormonal weight popups and if I stick to plan, I may see a bigger drop than normal next week. It's just hard to do when you work so hard for a week and see a + on the scale and can't weigh in again for an entire week! Well, hopefully, I'll have better news next Tuesday.

Good Morning!!

Ann, don't let such a small gain get you down, I seem to gain about 3 every month, and it is discouraging, but always comes off if I stick with it. (The things us poor women have to deal with!! )
I am still staying strong, I have decided to just count calories, it seems easiest for me at this time. I have been eating about 1400 a day, but have read it is good to change it a bit, so I will try a few lower days and then a few 1500 days and mix it up a bit. I went to the gym yesterday, (hadn't been in almost a week) today the family wants to ski again:eek: (we have season passes) and my neighbors want the adults to do a night ski this week, I guess I will just stay by myself on the small hill (maybe I need a irish whiskey first for some courage:D )

Start of REAL diet on this board! (9-22-04): 149
Last Sunday: 127
Today: 127
Original Goal (by 12-16-04): 135
Goal After I Reach the Realistic Goal: 125

Ann: Don't be discouraged! I think a small gain is good incentive to get back on track to keep losing again! A marathon!!!! OH MY GOSH!! You deserve the elevator!!!

Connie: Night skiing is FUN! Also, your idea for changing your calorie intake is a good one! I tried that after my doctor told me that was a good way to "fool" my body and change my metabolism. The weight seemed to melt off after a couple of weeks of doing this. It does work!

Where are the rest of you all! Calling all lurkers!!!! I promised I wouldn't go anywhere after my cruise....and I won't! Get back here...and get back on track with all of us! We miss you!

So Kelly, did you have fun? Any highlights you want to share? Our first cruise was Holland America. We had a wonderful time.

Ann: We had a ball! We swam with the dolphins in the Bahamas! Fabulous! We took the Margaritaville tour in Key West and I sang on stage at "The Bull" in Key West! (I didn't know the 3rd floor of that bar was clothing optional at the time!)

It was so relaxing and fun! I did catch a little cold while I was snorkeling. It was a little chilly, so bundle up if you are going any time soon! Water is a little chilly!

Overall....fabulous trip...and the ship was BEAUTIFUL! I think I counted about 35 Christmas trees! Beautiful!

Kelly, I have always wanted to swim with the dolphins, I love them!! We are

going to Cozumel in June and I am going to then!!
Well, Ann you would be proud of me. I graduated to the next higher hill (the one I tried to skoot down the other day!!) it was really warm today so the snow was slushy and that made it slower, perfect for me but we stayed until night and I had a beer and then went back out, it started to ice up and was alot faster!! I did enjoy it more today, and I feel like I had a great work out.
Have a great nigth. / Connie

Kelly, sounds really fabulous!

Connie, nice job on the skiing! You'll be a pro before the end of this season, I am sure!

Connie, I was thinking about what you said about changing up the calorie counts from day to day and that's pretty much what I've been doing the last week or so because of the parties and stuff. Banking points, then using them I have had days where my calorie intake is low, one day as low as 1275 then othe days (Christmas Eve) as high at 2800. Sunday I was at 2000 but ran 17 miles so that was very low considering my calories burned that day were over 3300. But I was still making up for Friday. All week I'd banked points so my calories were 1500-1600 while I was burning 2400-2500. I think in my case, the highs and lows were not good for my progress. Considering the parties and whatnot, a gain of .8 is good. It would've been +5 if I hadn't been doing this. I think for this week, my body needs a more regular calorie intake so I am going to just use my daily point allowance and not do any banking for New Year's Eve/Day. On New Year's, use my daily allowance only, nothing extra. Yesterday, my calorie intake was 1831 with 2452 burned. Much more reasonable.

Okay, now that I've totall put everyone back to sleep, I'm really excited because I changed post cruise hotels in New Orleans and now we will be staying in the French Quarter. I think I am looking more forward to the visit to New Orleans than the cruise. People getting on the Conquest in NOLA often complain about the traffic at the pier and long waits to get on. Those are the people arriving at the pier at 10:00 am to get on the ship as early as possible. People that wait until later have to traffic hassles because by then the disembarking passengers are gone. What's the hurry when the port is New Orleans? Enjoy the city! There'll be plenty of time to check out the ship!

Well, have a great day everyone!

Well, today, I am over by one point. I think I had the highest caloric intake for awhile. I know I can make up that one measly point tomorrow. No big deal. I was just SO HUNGRY today! I ate good, healthy food, no junk. I was just SO HUNGRY!!

con3
December 29th, 2004, 07:31 PM
Isn't it strange how some days you feel like you can eat non stop and never get full and then other days your not even hungry??
I did good today, still writing down every bite I eat, it really does help.
Ann, New Orleans should be a blast!! I have never been there, but it is on my list of places I want to go to one of these days.
About the daily calories, I think if you fluctuate to much it is probably not good, I read somewhere you should fluctuate about 100-300 calories . Who knows!!
I still am wondering where everyone else it, hopefully they will come back after New Years!!

Glad to be back on the board. I was so bummed out after the cruise and the 15 pound weight gain in only 8 days, that I couldn't face the boards to post. All (weight-wise) is almost back to normal since 12/5. I've lost 14 of the 15 pounds that I gained. Taking care of my mother now full time, who has Alzheimers is another story. I figured that cooking her three meals a day would give me reason to eat more and gain weight, but I haven't. This week I also started back to Curves. The 30 minute workout does me a world of good.

Kelly, I'm glad to hear that you had a great cruise. Congrats on being strong and taking the stairs. Sounds like you had a blast!

Regina, where are you? You were one of my original inspirations to lose weight. Your messages are so powerful. Come back, come back wherever you are!

My new years resolution is to lose 17 more pounds to hit the 130 mark. I hope that the low carb/Curves combination will do the trick.

Happy New Years everyone!!!!

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!

The whirl wind of holiday activities is officially over. I ended the old year wonderfully and began the new year fabulously and hope everyone else did.

Here are my stats:
Beginning weight: 185
last weigh in:155
todays weight: 157

Although there is a 2 pound gain, it is strictly due to T.O.M and I am very happy about that. The tremendous amount of temptations over the holidays did not win out :)

I should be back to regular posting now that all the business of the holidays is over and I'm really glad for that cause I truly did miss keeping up with all the postings.

Will check back in tomorrow to see how everyone is doing.

Okay, I weighed in today and I'm up 2.2 pounds but I've been good every day! Nary a treat has passed my lips! If you remember, I was up .8 last week. I will say, my bodyfat is down to 19% and it was 25% when I started right after Thanksgiving. I have been at the gym more. Is it possible to gain three pounds of muscle in a few weeks? My clothes are looser so I'm not going to give up. I wonder if I'm not eating enough? Average calories burned is 2540 and average intake is 1818. Carbs 52% protein 25% fat 20% (only 5% saturated) Seems pretty healthy to me. Not much I could change, just press on!

Oh Connie, that's too bad about your leg. You too Regina. At least you were having fun when you twisted it ;). The worst is that it puts a damper on your workouts, but you have to let your body heal.

Thanks for your encouraging words, Connie. After I posted, I did figure out that since I started this with a bodyfat percentage of 25% and was down to 19% yesterday, that means I've lost 9 pounds of bodyfat but the scale only shows -5.4. It's really the bodyfat loss that counts. I'm glad my scale includes the bodyfat%. So, I guess I have gained some lean mass plus I was likely retaining some water due to the salty soup I'd eaten Monday and that's okay. My big thing this week is to stop the diet coke in the afternoon (I only drink one) so that I drink my water.

Good luck in your new job Connie! I am sure it'll all be fine. It's natural to be a bit nervous, though.

Hi everyone! Well, I made a good call last night. My training schedule for my marathon has 10 miles for today. I had planned to go out before work as always. It was snowing last night and the forecast had it getting warmer overnight and changing to rain then freezing. So, I bagged the run that I would've had to get up a 4:00 am for and am subbing for 5 miles on the treadmill immediately before a 5:30 pm spinning class. Good call! Everything is coated in ice out there. I couldn't have run if I'd have gotten up at 4:00 to do it! I'm glad I have such easy access to a nice gym! (it's right where I work)

Connie, the scale I have is a Tanita. I got it at Dunham's discount sporting goods. I paid about $70 for it. To me, it was worth the $70. I am glad your leg is feeling better and the job is starting out well. Nice going on the fruits and veggies. I think a major key is planning what you'll have on hand for snacks. If you get hungry or "niggly" as I like to call it, you'll snack. If you don't have good things around, you'll reach for the bad.

Sounds like I am not the only one dealing with the ice today! Have a good day all!

I don't like the cold weather either, but interestingly, when I started running and getting outside more in the winter, they started bothering me less. I know that seems illogical. Perhaps it is more sun exposure (albeit through layers of clouds) makes me feel better.

Weather seems to be pretty mild today for January so we should be okay for the big training run. Yesterday was a rest day. No excersize. I did watch my granddaughter for a few hours. That is so much fun! I thought I was going to get my tree down yesterday. That d#@& tree has to come down today. At least it's artificial and not dropping needles all over!

Great weigh in today, ladies! Down 4.2 from last week. I knew that bounce up was just blip in the screen because I'd been so good but I hated seeing that number go up. I've averaged just a little over 1 pound lost per week. It's hard not to let those fluctuations derail you.

11/30/2004 145
12/7/2004 142.6
12/14/2004 138
12/21/2004 136.6
12/28/2004 137.4
01/04/2005 139.6
01/11/2005 135.4 :D

We did our 20 miler on Sunday, then proceeded to go to the bar and throw darts and drink beer. Some recovery, huh? So, my tree is still up. Went swimming yesterday and ran 6 this morning. I'll keep on chugging but what I'd really like to do is take a nap!

Now that I only have 5.4 pounds to go and would really like it off by 2/25, I'm going to have to be really careful. Those last pounds seem to be the most stubborn!

Good to see everyone on track. I feel better, but still have a linguring cough which is quite annoying. Here's a little bit of info for anyone wanting not to slow down their metabolic rate. I thought it was interesting.

Here is the first step to keeping your metabolic rate up. Make
sure that your diet contains at least 10 calories per pound of your
ideal body weight. This means that if you are aiming for a weight
of 150 pounds, your daily menu should contain at least 1500
calories. Weight loss will be gradual, but you will not slow your
metabolism and so, you will be able to retain your progress.

Nice job Maria!

Regina, thanks for the words of wisdom. It is so true that you must eat to keep the furnace cooking. It's a delicate balance!

We went to an estate planning seminar last night and they fed us a nice dinner, but we had no choice, we got what they gave us. It was chicken piccata and delicious but I'm not used to so much butter! DH and I have been away from that stuff for so long, we are really sensitive to it. I only ate 1/2, let them take away the rest.

Regina-thanks for the info!! Hope you are feeling better.
Ann-Good job only eating half!! It is funny how our bodies and taste buds change, I ate a potato chip from my sons plate yesterday and it tasted to greasy and salty!! I guess that is progress because chips have always been my downfall.

Maria, the first few weeks are the hardest. After that, you start to get used to it and it's not so bad. Hang in there!

Yesterday, I had one of those hungry days. I just couldn't get over being hungry. Between just needing more points yesterday than I had and being a few points over Tuesday becuase of that buttery meal, I now have 6 points to make up by Monday night. I should be able to do it, I already have a strategy. Yesterday, I just needed to eat a few extra points, that's all there was to it.

Ann, I was extra hungry yesterday also. I just didn't feel satisfied, I woke up that way. Today I feel better (so far) I will be making up for a few extra calories also. Well, it is off to the gym. Connie

I am sort of back. Haven't read all the posts since I last posted, but I'll get there.
I had all sorts of good intentions but... not having connectivity in our cabin got me out of the CruiseCritic habit for a while, and I have slowly been getting back into it.

On the cruise, I did do some exercise! I went to enough sessions to earn a ShipShape hat. Mostly stretching classes in the morning followed by walking a mile around the top deck. Not phenomenal, but at least it was something. Toward the end of the cruise, when I was trying to get as many points as possible, I actually tried to do an aerobics class (Only certain events/classes during the day could earn you points). They were going way too fast for me!
Since coming back, I have tried to get in some exercise with Leslie Sansone's walking tapes. I don't always get enough time, but at least I now try to get one in every few days; before the cruise it wasn't even on my radar.

I went back to Weight Watchers today for the first time since my cruise. I don't know where I gained the pounds, the cruise, the holidays or all the junk food at work, but they are back and I need to get RID of them. The person who weighed me in was very nice and asked if I was a lifetime member. I WISH. I will post my weight on Sunday. Not ready to see that number in print yet. :(

I'll go read your posts now, and catch up. And then I promise to check in regularly like a good girl!

Hey Mindy! Welcome back! Well, weight gain on a cruise and over the holidays isn't unusual. You've already won 1/2 the battle by going to ww and facing the scale. Now that you've done that, you can concentrate on getting back on track and moving on. It's good you are getting some excersize in a few times a week. That is key!

Connie, I don't know what it was. One of my co-workers said the same thing Wedsnesday. She just couldn't get enough to eat. Yesterday was better, but still hungry. Well, I managed to make up one of the 6 points I was over. 5 to go. I am hoping to make up 2 today. Won't try tomorrow since I don't excersize tomorrow at all, I'll need every point! It seems like I am always in the hole with those $#%#@ points and am making some up. I think the thing I am most looking forward to on vacation is that I will not be counting!! There's no doubt in my mind that I will gain some weight on vacation. Sometimes I get sick of the constant obsessing over calories in/calories out just to maintain a healthy weight  Oh well, I could have much worse problems than this ;).

Good job Connie! Down 4 pounds since Christmas! That's great. Slow weightloss is healthy and lasting weightloss. As for the BBQ and beer, sounds like you'll burn it off today. Hey, ya gotta live between vacations ;)

As for me, I did 'okay' the last few days but am having a hard time making up the overages from my HUNGRY days earlier in the week. I still have 7 points to make up but think today is the day because I ran 12 miles then when I got home, immediately picked up the shovel and shoveled the 3" of snow that fell while I was running off our driveway! I don't get the 'snackies' when I am at home as much as when I am at work. So, today is the day to make it up I've decided. I'll be hungry tomorrow.

I weighed 162.4 on Thurs. If I wasn't feeling better for having started exercising, I would have been very upset. But I have the tools to improve, so by golly I'm going to use them. I've been doing more cooking at home, and have been looking for more ways to get vegetables into our repetoire at home.

One of the stores near me had all the fixings for vegetable soup - they had chopped up celery, onions, carrots, parsnips and zucchini, and included a recipe and a package of herbs. All I had to do was put the vegetables in, in the right order and add broth. It turned into dinner for 2 nights, and I am very pleased about that. Tonight I was going to make a butternut squash soup, but didn't have enough broth. So I went through my recipes, and found a Japanese recipe for simmered squash and green beans. It wasn't phenomenal, but since I made my husband's favorite chili, it was OK for a side dish.

I am keeping Starkist tuna lunch packages at my desk. This way, if I can't get away, I am at least eating something worth putting into my body. I am still struggling with drinking more water, and with all candy that people bring into work - not just for holidays, it's constant! The colors change for the season, but that's it. If anyone has any tricks for disabling my addiction to chocolate, please share them.

It looks like everyone is doing well - losing or stablizing. I hope I can join you in that next week!!! Well, now for some sleep. I'm sure getting into a realistic circadian rhythm will help also.

Nice weigh in Regina! You're doing awesome!

Mindy, sounds like you are back on the road. As for the candy people bring in and the chocolate addiction, that's what I struggled with the hardest the first 2 weeks. I just had to not take any and after two weeks it got much easier. Now I walk past the little wrapped candies (now wrapped for Valentine's Day) and it's like walking past a jar of pencils. They don't tempt me anymore. The hard part was getting past those first two weeks. You do, however, need to let yourself have some treats once in awhile, just a small portion, on occasion. We can't completely deprive ourselves.

Okay, I made up my 7 point overage but boy am I hungry this morning. Really looking forward to my oatmeal after spinning!

At my job, there are huge boxes of the following (from Costco's) on a daily basis for the picking:

Drakes coffee cakes
assorted bags of chips
huge tin of butter cookies
huge buttered pretzels
a gal. size jar of mixed mini hershey choc bars

1. I go prepared to work with what I know I can have
2. As I walk past all the stuff, I ask myself...."How bad do I want to lose the weight?" And then, I visualize the number I want to weigh. It works for me.

Most of the time, I can walk past things and say "that's not worth gaining weight for" and I'm fine. Sometimes I try something new, but afterwards, I can say "You've tried it before, and you were disappointed." Having apple sauce containers in my desk helps too. But people are starting to find out that I like DARK chocolate, and they are bringing it in for me! I need to find a way to walk past those desks!!! I know Runner Girl is right (sorry - I forgot your real name!!!!), but I'm going to need some real willpower for the next 2 weeks.

Regina, as soon as I started reading your list, I started drooling. :( That's because they don't have Drake's down in Houston. Hostess makes similar things, but aren't as good. (Or aren't as good I remember Drake's being, which may not be reality.)

Well, I'm going to turn in, since it won't get any earlier.

It's slow but in the right direction. I lost .4 last week down to 135 which is an exact -10 from when I started this ride! Seems like an awful lot of work for less than 1/2 pound but I know that when you get close to goal the losses come more slowly so I'm pleased.

11/30/2004 145
12/7/2004 142.6
12/14/2004 138
12/21/2004 136.6
12/28/2004 137.4
01/04/2005 139.6
01/11/2005 135.4
01/18/2005 135

People bring in the dark chocolate thinking they are being nice to you but they are not. These are the things we have to learn to deal with. We will always be faced with goodies that we want to avoid-especially at the office. If we don't learn to deal with it now, we won't lose this weight for life. I've given up on giving up my caffeine. My friend Jen brought in banana bread with choc chips yesterday. I gave in and had some but I made sure I stayed within my points. It was a bad move because as hungry as I was, I needed those 3 points for something more substantial and I paid for it all day. Not worth it at all. I love my coffee and I'm keeping it!!

Heavy sigh, it is 10 degrees outside and I have to go out there and run. At least it's not snowing.

Connie, all that skiing you are doing + going to the gym, that's alot of calories being burned. All that excersize is making you hungry. That's okay because you need a few more calories when you are excersizing alot. What you have to do is figure out how to properly increase your intake without going overboard so you continue to lose. That's one of the things I love about weight watchers. It has a way for me to know how much is okay to increase on those days that I do a 10 or 15 mile run. When you go to the gym, then go skiing all afternoon, it's the same thing. That's probably why you've been so hungry. Your body is saying "Feed me!". heehee. I just made myself laugh.

I don't know what program you are following but you might want to allow yourself a few more calorie on those skiing days.

Thanks! I've gotta do 5 today and it's only 12 degrees out there. Brrrr!

Connie, when I first started (7 years ago), I walked 2 miles per day. That was a challenge. After awhile I started jogging a bit on my route until I got up to jogging the whole two miles. That shortened my workout time so I decided to gradually increase to 3 miles so I'd still have a 30 min workout. I stuck at 3 miles for a very long time. In fact, I'd sign up for 5K races and see people warming up before the race and I'd wonder why in the world they'd want to do any extra. Isn't 3.1 miles far enough? But I joined a running club and started hanging around marathoners and the marathon bug bit me and I started gradually increasing mileage. Now, I'm training for my 14th marathon-The Mardis Gras marathon on 2/27 (right after which I board that cruise ship for a good long celebration). A marathon is 26.2 miles of endorphin bliss (and quad pain) so I have to run long distances to train for it. So, there ya have it. The crux of my insanity.

It's fun though.

Have a good day!

That is awesome Ann!! And what a way to reward yourself after, with a cruise!! I am going to keep running and hopefully increase, Last year I couldn't even run 1 mile, I guess you just have to keep pushing yourself. I run at a very slow pace now. Do you know if it is better to keep your slower pace and add distance or run same distance and add speed? I never know what to do. Thanks. Connie

mariapd719
January 22nd, 2005, 04:54 AM
Well if you run longer it will build up your endurance and if you run faster youll burn more fat and build up cardiovascular....my suggestion take turns. One day go for speed and one go for distance, this way you are accomplishing both. Once your on your way and happy where you are throw in a hill for muscle building

35 days YOW!!! It's coming up! I am very excited about the cruise and vacation. The marathon too. I'll be glad when I am done! Yes, I do like to do these, but they are always a source of nerves and the nerves are starting to set in.

Connie, that's always a tough question. I'd start with endurance. Once you get to a length of time or distance you are comfortable with, then do some things to test your pace, but don't do that every day. It's good to have some long days, some speed days and some easy days. For now, concentrate on base building, which is exactly what you are doing. Don't go for speed for awhile because that's where injuries tend to occur. I'll see if I can find some articles for you.

We had 22 scheduled today but a snow storm blew in. It didn't seem to bad this morning, so we set out. I got pretty far ahead of my husband but when we got about a mile from my gym I waited for him. I had stashed replenishments in my gym locker. He caught up and was having a bad run. We decided the roads were getting too dangerous. We ran to my gym (11 miles from home) and decided to do the rest on the treadmills. His daughter came and got us when we were done. 11 miles in the snow and 11 miles on the treadmill. Glad that's over. Now, I'm off to my running club banquet. The temp has dropped to 11 dgrees and the wind has kicked up. Windchill's now around -10. Wouldn't mind just staying home but we are in charge of one of the activities. Errrr! The theme is a luau. Ha! I'll have to change when I get there. I can't even drive there in luau attire!

Get to rest tomorrow! yay!
