View Full Version : Same stateroom as before?

This is a question for repeat cruisers:

When booking a second cruise on the same ship / same class of ship as previously:
Do you prefer to book the exact same stateroom?
If not - Do you book the same category of stateroom?
Do you prefer which side of the ship or which deck you're on?

As for myself, my default on a Vista is a portside Deck 8 SS, preferably aft of midship, or an aft-corner SC...
...whereas when I've been aboard an R-Class I've always ended up in one of the "Secret Window" Insides on Deck 7 portside aft.

Well, I used to think I wanted ONLY SA cabins right at the door to the Neptune! We booked 7064 several times and once I think it was 7055.. then I tried one of your favorites! 8055 on the Oosterdam, and of course it was wonderful too even though we didn't have the Neptune!
For our next cruise we're taking an SB.. it saves some off the SA and has almost as good a location, and all the same perks. To answer your question though.. when you cruise a lot you start to think of the ship as "home" and I think we are creatures of habit and want to go back to "our room"! It will be interesting to see the responses you get and whether people like to book the same thing over and over or try a variety!

We have done quite a few bakc-to-back cruises on the same ships. And most times we do book the same cabins.

Brian, sorry if I misunderstood your question - I thought you meant "repeat" as in other cruises other times, not B2B...

The only time we've done B2B we booked guarantee, and for the first cruise we had an upgrade, for the second one we were assigned the category we booked, so it wasn't our choice to move, but we did, and it was really no hassle at all. In fact, the first one was port and the second starboard, and it was Alaska, so we got to see the scenery on the opposite side - worked out great!

Our first Oosterdam cruise we were in a verandah towards the front, on port side. We ended up with that cabin just because we needed a cabin that accomodated 3 and I wanted to be close to my dad who had already booked an inside across the hall.
Our upcoming cruise in October, we knew we wanted to be further aft (we enjoyed that position on our Princess cruise) and that for the Mexican Riveria we liked being port side. So, again we picked port but decided to upgrade from a VD cat to an SY. We picked cabin 6104 because our anniversary is 10/4 - as this was a trip that we were suppose to do on 10/4 but the ship was chartered.
Yes, odd way to pick a cabin - but that's me:p

No re-occupancy for us. The only ship we've sailed more than once is the Princendam. We had the same category and virtually same location mid-ships. One was port, the other starboard.

So far on our only repeat ship (Amsterdam) we booked a higher category the second time. On most of our "same class" cruises we've booked guarantees, and therfore have moved around. DW and I are developing location preferences now, but unfortunately we disagree! :( I like aft 1/3, port side, and she likes forward 1/3, either side.

We always book the same Port Side S Suite but for our Panama cruise we booked an SA on the Starboard Side. I think it will be strange to be on the other side of the ship. :)

I have not been on that many cruises, but in February on the Zuiderdam we liked our VD 4043 cabin so we booked it on the Eurodam for next February.

I wouldn't mind trying different cabins either. Our first cruise was on the Caribbean Princess and we had a balcony cabin, but none were available on the Amsterdam for our Alaska cruise and we ended up on an HH on the Lower Promenade. I think that was just fine for Alaska.

Still have to try an inside. :)

We were on the Zuiderdam last year to Alaska and booked a VD guarantee and that's what we got-4054--right next to the lifeboats on Deck 4. So our "unobstructed view" was actually obstructed to the left. Other than that the room was very nice.
This Sept. we are on the Zuiderdam to the Med for 24 days. We decided we needed a little more room for such a long trip and booked a specific stateroom. We are in a SS on Deck 8--Room 8046. I am just hoping that being right under the Lido will not be a problem with noise.

I don't think we have ever booked the same cabin for a subsequent cruise. I never even remember which cabin we had. But on S class we usually book balcony unless none are left. On Vista we book an SY.

We have been in the exact same cabins so many times I can't count. On Maasdam we have occupied the same Suite cruise ater cruise and when we go to her sister ships, try to get it there as well.

When you find what you like, why move?!!! :)

Hey, I just wanna be on the ship!:D
I like to have at least an ocean view (minus obstructions:) ), but the specific cabin or location, not such a big deal.

Whenever on the Zaandam, I have always booked 7086.
4 times already, and also on my upcoming Feb. 09 Hawaii cruise.
I don't know what will happen when those of us that
always want that cabin ever end up on the same sailing
and we have to see who gets the prize.
I am always in debt to all of you for sharing the secret
of that cabin with me, so that I was able to book it the
first time I was to be on the Zaandam. I certainly have
come to think of it as "my cabin" on "my ship."

On other ships, I book verandas, and have been in cabins
in the same area each time, but not in the exact
cabin as a time before.

Small world...our first cruise was on the Caribbean Princess as well. In February of '06. Then we "switched" to HAL.

On the Verandah Deck each time, first in a VC on the port side, aft of midship, and then in a VA on the stern. I guess I'm a creature of habit...whenever I look at cruises, I look in the same general area on the deck plans. I can't bring myself to to a guarantee...I find that it's fun to peruse the deck plans and choose the "perfect" stateroom for us!

I wonder what that says about my personality? Hmmmmmmm.

We do try to book the same cabin, especially on our favorite ship, the Volendam. The cabin has always worked for us, and we love the locations. We are venturing into new territory with the Noordam next year, and will be in a new location and side of the ship.

We care not. As long as we are on the ship and going somewhere that's enough for us. Since we like the motion we prefer to be as far forward as possible but hey, it really doesn't matter.

Wow you must really love that cabin! Glad you snagged it again for Hawaii. Now that your secret's out, can you say what's so special about it? I can't seem to figure it out from the deck plans. Thanks.

We like the starboard side on the Westerdam and had 6099 last year and booked the same cabin this year. We think it is a great location and hopefully we will be lucky and have Aris again.

We were in 7046 last December and yes it is a killer. That was probably a once in lifetime splurge. We booked a SC on the Eurodam for our next cruise.

I've only been on a paltry three cruises so far but for two of those I've booked pretty much the same cabin, a G/GG on the upper promenade on two different Vista class ships with a 10 day stay in 7086 in between. As I book as a solo (travelling with two friends), price is my first thought but when I walked into 4082 on the Oosterdam just a few short weeks ago, it felt wonderful and familiar. So much so in fact that I booked a G for the future cruise I booked while on board the Oosterdam. That 'ole obstructed view is just perfect for me.....well, until the day I can afford a veranda cabin on my own ;).

I always book the same cabin on the R-class ships, and have had it on three of them; (the first cruise I was upgraded across the passageway a couple of days before sailing). It's one of those odd shaped cabins, and I love entering and knowing just where everything goes.
I usually book the same cabin on the S-class ships, too. Once I had to switch to port side, and I wa totally discumbobulated. On the Maasdam I had a guarantee, so it was the luck of the draw on that one.

I love knowing my way "home" at night, and the fastest/easiest way to get anywhere I want to go.

I always try to get starboard side. When I first started sailing the ships tended to close off on port side on some of the decks. You couldn't get through without going back to starboard. So I just learned to list in that direction. :D
