This will be our first cruise with HAL, can you tell me about Half Moon Cay?
Confused about all the different colors of Cabans and what they mean,
also about pricing is this $219 pp or per cabana? Just my husband and I the
pp would be a little too pricey. Also, note they have clamshells that
protect from the sun, how are they? Any info would help. Thanks.

We are all waiting to hear if there are cabanas at HMC after Hurricane Frances blew through. We have been told there was little beach erosion and that expected foliage and vegatation damage but we are not sure if the cabanas survived or are being rebuilt.

If the cabanas were badly damaged as has been reported it may be awhile before all of them are replaced.

They cost $219 total for 2 people.

Depending on when your cruise is, depends on when they will either be replaced or fixed up. Everyone is waiting for a damage report.

When we were there in May, the clamshells were $9. They hold two lounges and are well worth the price. Sign up early for one as they sell out fast. It is also fun to rent a couple of the float mats.

I just spoke with Tiffany (a CSR) at HAL. She assured me that Half Moon Cay has been cleaned up and will be used on the Oct. 2 sailing of the Zuiderdam. I hope she's correct. She said they had no port changes for the Oct. 2 sailing with regard to Grand Cayman.

DaddyBob - in saying that "HMC has been cleaned up and will be used on the Oct. 2 sailing", will it be ready for use on the 9/25 if no other storm knocks?

I posted here previously that I received e-mails from two different friends in Seattle who assured me there was little beach erosion and damage to foliage that one would expect.

Neither commented about the cabanas but both assured the only stop at HMC that would be cancelled was this week's Zuiderdam call there.

Next week's should go as scheduled......regular conditions permitting.

at $219 per cabana I'm sure they would be rebuilt VERY fast if they were damaged:)

Thanks for answering my question on cost of cabana, but I still don't
understand about the different colors, do the colors represent better
location on the beach? and if so, which is the color that's close and which
is further? Thanks again.

Each cabana has it's own color, that's how they are identified. I guess it looks nicer than just call them "Cabana No. 1" etc. :-)

If you use the search function here in the message board and look for "Cabana Location" you should find a thread where the exact locations of all cabanas are explained.

Hope this helps!

Here is a link to the old thread that shows a picture of all the cabanas separately as well as a picture showing where they are (or at least were before the hurricanes) on the beach. After clicking on the link, scroll down just a bit and you'll see all the pictures. It's a fabulous thread and I think it will answer all your questions:

AnnThe locations of the cabanas, starting with the closest to the ship, is as follows:

Tan
Blue (canvas sides)
Turquoise
Orange
Light Blue
Purple (canvas sides)
Pink
Green
Yellow

The Tan, Blue and Turquoise cabanas are the most convenient to the bathrooms. None of the cabanas are very remote, so getting to the food and bathroom areas wouldn't be much of a hike from any of them.
