I'm thinking of staying in Virginia Beach.

How far is it to norfolk, and how much will a cab cost?

Thanks for your input

Vic,

When you say Virginia Beach I assume you mean the Va Beach oceanfront. That's about 1/2 hour ride to the pier in Norfolk. If I had to guess (and guess is the operative word) I'd say the cab fare would be about $35.00 plus tip. If you want I can call a car service and ask.

That time of year you can probably get a room right on the oceanfront pretty inexpensively. Definitely past the tourist season.

If you're thinking of somewhere else in Va. Beach let me know what area and I'll give you an idea of the distance.

Marc, slightly off topic, I will be driving to Va Beach early Friday morning as My great niece who is stationed in Norfolk had a baby. What I need to know is how is the weather looking for this w/end?.thanks....jean

Vic .... Since you're from NJ ....It's about like going from Cape May to Atlantic City or as DH would say "Half a 6-Pack" (he's not driving). (Mostly on a freeway like Garden State Pky. from Norfork to VA Beach ....)

Marc knows much more than I do about cab fares and actual distances to specific places. All I know is that it takes us about 30 minutes to get to VA Beach from Norfork ... and it also takes us about 30 minutes to get from Cape May to Atlantic City.

Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)

They expect it to stall out and not move much, or even go backwards.

BTW, congratulations on the new arrival.:)

Ocruisers is right, I should have been a bit more specific. From the oceanfront you go to 22nd st and head west. About 1/2 mile from the oceanfront that becomes I-264. From there it is a straightshot on an interstate into downtown Norfolk. You get off at Waterside Drive and the pier is about 1/2 mile. On Saturday there shouldn't be much traffic.

Hey, we arrived last March in the middle of the week, there was traffic - the cab ride was $30+ not including tip. We stayed at the Marriott Waterside. It was bitter cold - colder than here in Colorado... we have a bad rep in Colorado.

Everyone thinks it's cold when in fact it's nice. :)

Talked to Mom & Dad today in Redding, California - 70 degrees there, high humidity... we had beautiful blue, CLEAR skies and it was almost 80... go figure! Give me Colorado over Cali any day!!! :D

Thanks everyone for your feedback!

I'm booking the Holiday Inn on the beach (by 22 St, I think).

Thought I'd go for the beach. It kinda makes sense .....
A beach bum goes nicely with a beach!

Pass the Coronas!
