When I called HAL they said the soda card was $26.25 for a 7-night cruise. Does this sound right? Is that including the 15% gratuity or is that in addition to this price? The agent I spoke with was clueless! She couldn't tell me what drinks the Soda Card can be used for and I know it's very specific on other cruise lines, i.e. no cans, only fountain drinks from the bar "gun". Is it the same way with HAL?

Thanks so much for the help!

On my 8/21 Zuiderdam sailing it was $37.50 including gratuity, and it can be used for all fountain sodas (they serve only Coke products) and, in certain areas, for cans of soda if there are no soda fountains. Iced tea is free. They will be everywhere selling this package as you embark, so you'll have ample oppportunity to sign up.

I am looking at the list that HAL faxed me recently and it says $26.50 for 7 days and $37.50 for 10 days, plus gratuity. When they add gratuity to something like this, who gets it? If the person selling it gets it, then the other servers or bartenders who serve it throughout the cruise, get nothing...jean

The extra charge includes Half moon cay. They don't tell you that you can get the cheaper price unless you ask. It was actually nice to have it on Half Moon Cay though. They had only cans and you could get as many as you want. I liked it for the convenience of not signing anything.

We skipped the soda passes and bought a six-pack of 24 ounce Pepsi plastic bottles at Wal Mart in Anchorage. Cost was $3.67 and we always returned to the room to refill glasses and get ice. This was sufficeient for the cruise.

I also pass on the soda cards and carry on a couple 12 packs and/or 2 Liter bottles of Diet Mountain Dew. much more economical - and its my soda of choice.

Thanks, sounds like the HAL rep. got the price of $26.50 right, but wish she could've been more specific about what drinks are included and where.

Is it valid in the dining room too?

I recently e:mailed HAL and asked them to explain what the soft drink card ($26.50 for 7 days and $37.50 for 10 days) entitled me to. This was their exact reply: "Thank you for your inquiry. The fountain drink cards are for unlimited soda beverages that come from the bartender's "gun" - i.e.; Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Soda Water, Tonic Water. These can be purchased either onboard the ship, or in advance through Ship Services. We look forward to having you onboard and thank you for choosing Holland America Line. Kind Regards, Julie, Ship Services."
