Hi
We're thinking of booking an aft cabin (on the back of the ship) possibly on Eurodam.
Has anyone any thoughts, positive or negative, on having a balcony facing where we've just come from!
Can you hear any noise from the propellers?
We've only just been on our first cruise and had a high up forward cabin.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gail

Gail---
There have been lots of threads and comments on aft cabins. You may be able to search this forum for recent posts.
Many many people who've had aft cabins (including us) really love the privacy of them, and the mesmerizing view of the wake. Noise has not been a problem for us. We've had cabins on the bow, as well, and found that the balcony on those were unusable when the ship's moving, due to wind. The balcony on the aft cabin, however, had very little wind.
The aft cabins aren't centrally located, however, and some people prefer to be closer to elevators and not have the "hike".
It's a matter of opinion ...

We are sailing in an aft cabin on the Eurodam this Sept. It will be our second cruise as well.
I have learned from this forum that cabin location is very much a question of personal preferance.
My DH and I so enjoy watching the wake, combine this with the ability to view both starboard and port and we were sold.
However we have concerns like yourselves as to motion ,viibration etc.
I am waiting for reviews from the Eurodam about the aft cabins. I suppose until one actually stays in an aft cabin you can't know for sure if it's for you.
We have become so hooked on cruising ,I am just glad to be onboard anywhere LOL Good Luck with your choice ,have a wonderful cruise whatever your decision.
Just an aside ,can Cruise Forum become addictive??I find myself checking in a couple of times a day, should I be worried ??LOL

We completely enjoy the aft cabins because of the spectacular views. Yes, it is a "hike" to other parts of the ship, but we consider that extra walking as one of our weight control methods while onboard!;)

We stayed in an aft cabin on the Noordam and have one booked on the Eurodam. We loved it. Yes, there was some vibration, but nothing to disturb us. The extra large veranda(although I don't think they are that large on the Eurodam..except for deck 4) and watching the wake was great.
As far as walking, it's very closeto all the food venues.like the main dinn rom and the Lido buta hike to the entertainment and the Crow's Nest on the Eurodam. But, again, as mentioned, it's good for weight control.

We've just returned from the Noordam where we had an aft cabin (8143). We loved the verandah. At least twice the size of the side verandahs. We felt some vibration, I'm guessing from the engines. But it didn't bother us. At times we would hear a terribly loud noise, not sure what it was, but was much louder than just someone slamming their cabin door.
The afts are close to the lido and the vista dining room, which makes them convenient. But it is a long walk to most anywhere else. We didn't mind though. Good exercise.
The only other problem we faced so far as noise is concerned is from moving deck chairs on the lido deck just above us. It was really only a problem the night of the bbq. Chairs and tables were moved until around 1AM.
I would probably book an aft again, but not on the 8th deck. Probably on 6 or 7.

We had one on our February Noordam cruise, Deck 5. Loved the size of the verandah and watching the wake...also being able to see what was on the port and starboard sides.
The vibration was a little bothersome to me sometimes at night when I was trying to sleep, but others here have said it didn't bother them...so I guess that's subjective.

I have just read Jhannas" quick report ( Rev Neals' thread )from the Eurodam. He gives the Aft cabins a big thumbs up!! It is quite an endorsment. I am very encouraged now about our choice. I am sure he will have more info later. Hope this helps with your decision.

Thank you for all your very helpful replies.
We have now booked Eurodam November next year, aft cabin Deck 4.
And yes, CC forums VERY addictive but we do get excellent information from everybody!!!!
Out of interest, we did consider booking through a US travel agent but had concerns. We have managed to obtain a better deal through a UK agent so we are well pleased.
Once again, many thanks

So you are in an aft on deck 4 this September. Please PM me when you get back with the full lowdown!
You sound as if you've caught the cruise bug and CC bug just like us. We've just done our first cruise and have booked 2 more in the last week!!!!
Off on the QE2 in 11 days for a 3 night cruise along the English Channel to Belgium and Holland.
Enjoy your cruise on the Eurodam.

It doesn't seem as though anyone here is interested in rehab.
I've found myself checking in a lot more often since the Eurodam pre inaugural. Only 20 more days.

How lucky are you??? I so envy those that talk about their "3 day jaunts." What a wonderful way to spend a weekend. We don't have any ports close enough to make it an option for us.
We certainly have caught both "bugs",can you believe what a wonderful resource CC is for we "Newbie" cruisers?? I have learned so much here.
We also have booked a third cruise( looks like we both have it bad LOL).We are doing a westbound transatlantic out of Harwich Sept 2009. I will have a score of questions for our dear "verterans " when that time gets closer.
We have choosen a different cruiseline for the 2009 cruise. I must admit not sailing HAL has me a little nervous but the itinerary has many of the"would love to visit "ports on our list of places to see. My DH wants to ride the ponies in Iceland( don't ask !)LOL.
It would appear we both have lots to look forward to,I will be sure and check in with lots of details ,details ,details after our Eurodam cruise
Have a wonderful cruise on the QE2 , sounds so lovely!! I wish we were that close to sailing!!
