I have heard good things about this product on here. I could not find a children's formula. Is it ok to give a 1/2 to a 8 and 10 yo? Can we just have them with us in case and just take them if needed or does it not work that way. We are in Alaska inside passage and I HEAR it is fairly smooth?? Thanks!

Why not call your children's doctor and pose that question to him/her, rather than to people who have no idea if this product is safe for children ?

Definitely check with your child's doctor. He may even suggest something else.

Having sailed the Inside Passage and the Pacific for Alaskan cruise -- yes the Inside Passage is much smoother. I love that route the best.

Always consult with a physician before giving medications (even over-the-counter) to children.

During the inside passage portion of the cruise the waters are generally calm, but the first 24 hours or so and last 24 hours or so of your cruise may be choppy (more typically so in cruises leaving from Seattle than Vancouver).

Found by going to www.bonine.com (http://www.bonine.com) which gave an error, but redirected me to http://www.insightpharma.com/ (http://www.insightpharma.com/product_details_Bonineforkids.cfm) and finding their list of products: http://www.insightpharma.com/product_details_Bonineforkids.cfm

We bought both Bonine and the completely different Children's Bonine from an online pharmacy before leaving. I wouldn't give adult Bonine to kids, since it hasn't been properly tested on them and there is no known safe dosage.

We took the adult version every afternoon before disembarkation (about 4 pm). It worked for us! There was one night when half the folks in the dining room disappeared, but we were fine, and we are pretty sensitive.

Our daughter didn't start taking it until after the day she got seasick (that same rocky evening when half the dining room left). Once she started taking it, it worked for her as well -- but that first day it took about three hours to kick in, so she missed one dinner.

I also would try to call your child's pediatrician. If he/she approves Bonine for your child you might find it in Seattle or Vancouver. I had good luck with ginger root capsules, but have no idea what a child's dose might be. I would also ask the pediatrician or doctor about that. I was taking Bonine regulary from the day before my cruise started. I did get queasy a few times. I would take two 550 mg tablets and within a short time my stomach would settle right down. I also used them on the Northwestern Fjords trip out of Seward. We had 7 foot waves on that tour and many got seasick. I am not sure if the Bonine helped or not. I did get queasy several times, but the ginger root capsules took care of it each time. I hope you figure it out and find what you need before your cruise. If not, the ship's doctor should have something for your child.

My daughter was very sick and took the childrens bonine and it worked very well for her and it also worked quickly! We were in a panic because she ruined everyone's dinner the night before and didn't have anything with us. The doctor on board also had nothing for kids but I found it in the general store on a royal caribbean ship. Thank goodness! I'll be sure to have it on hand this time around. Check a few places for the children's version as well as speaking to your doctor! Good luck:)

My daughter is going on 6 years old and we have used the Children's Bonine. Both adult and children's version have been a life saver. Been to Alaska once before and the seas were rough only on that part of journey from Vancouver until reaching Inside Passage. If you are okay with giving your children the bonine (children's version) - you can try CVS on their store shelves or Target (kept behind the counter with the pharmacist), both stores routinely have them in my area in Florida. Perhaps Vancouver being a port city will actually have it in their pharmacies.

I couldn't find the children's version in any CVS or other local pharmacy, which is why I did it with an online one. Onboard I also heard about the grownup version only. I don't know why the children's version is so hard to find. It really does work, and was totally non-drowsy-making on our daughter.
