Is a sport coat required on a four day cruise? Can you wear shorts to dinner? We've never cruised Disney but have heard that it is very casual.
what is the "norm" for the dining rooms please

There is no formal night on the four day wonder, however shorts are not allowed in the dinning rooms at dinner times.

At Palo, the adults-only alternative restaurant, they do request jackets for men (no tie required, that's up to you). Women tend to dress up a bit as well, but not formally.
The night you eat in Triton's, they also have the same jackets requested for men and the attire for ladies is a little dressier too.
In truth, the Triton's night is hit or miss on whether or not people follow the suggested dress code. More people do follow it in Palo.
The other nights in the regular dining rooms the requested dress is "resort casual" and that means polo shirts and khakis are just fine for men. Pants, capris or a casual skirt or sundress are fine for ladies.

Much thanks. Young kids no shorts at dinner either? Just want to make sure we pack appropriately. Do little girls wear the Princess dresses at all on board? I know I see them all the time in the park.
Our granddaughter is 3. Her first Disney visit..we didn't do the land sea pkg, do to scheduling but will stay in the park a few days after the 4 day cruise.
Very excited grandparents here

You will see many little girls on board in their princess outfits. They are so cute!
No matter what the Disney guidelines say, you will see people doing their own things in all of the restaurants, including jeans and even shorts. The guidelines are not enforced, except in Palo (and by that I mean jeans...many of the men do not wear sport coats). I for one like to dress up on a cruise, but Disney is definitely more casual than many other cruise lines.
