After all this discussion on where to stay in FLL, I am thinking of staying at the Amerisuites. Is there anything nearby to walk to? Any restaurants that are reasonable? Bookstores etc?

Toad,

I'm not usually a complainer or too fussy, but we were not happy with Amerisuites.

1. Check in was crowded and only one person working.
2. The room he gave us was already occupied (person's belongings were there without person. We really scared her as we were standing in her room.
3. Second room wasn't too clean, but we were too tired to complain again. And key didn't work at first in this room.

Maybe this only happened with us. Who knows. Embassy was right across the street and seemed nice with balconies.

On the positive side:

Breakfast was very good.
We sat by the pool and ate as it was very crowded.
Walked to Outback Steak for dinner. Also was a Mexican place nearby.

They had a shuttle to the port. Extremely busy. Took a cab instead of struggling. $10 to port-worth it not to be crammed in van.
Hope this helps. Probably just a one time problem.

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites many times both pre and post cruises. They have a manager's cocktail party every evening from 5:30 - 7:30 and every morning there is a full breakfast buffet.

We have eaten at the Bimini Boatyard many times - just down the street from the Embassy Suites.

There is a used book store in the strip mall next to the Embassy Suites.

There is also a Publix and an Eckerd Drug Store - soon to move to a new mall.

Will stay at Embassy Suites next time we cruise from Lauderdale.

Seemed like the pricing was about the same too.

Thanks, I guess I had better look up Embassy suites.

After reading some of the reviews on Travelocity and other web sites, we also are cancelling our reservation at Amerisuites. Doesn't sound that great. Now we will have to keep looking for another hotel.

Esme:
We have stayed in the Hampton Inn on Sterling before and liked it, $125.00. I think what I klike best is it is right next to a Barnes and Nobles Bookstore!

We stayed at the AmeriSuites once. Once was more than enough. I would recommend anyone to look elsewhere. :)
