We're doing the Adraitic cruise on the Emerald on Aug 1st -can't wait-and have just read that you need Kuna for most places in Croatia and you can't get Kuna on the ship. Is this true , do they not accept Euros at all?We really only want to buy a meal and a few drinks at each port and maybe make the odd holiday purchase.

Hi Rosiebee:)

We did the Adriatic cruise in 2004 and don't remember using anything other than Euros. I know we paid 10 euros for a taxi at the port to the walled town and I'm sure we paid in euros for our drinks once there.

Usually if there is an unusual currency to be used they have somebody who comes on board to change the money, but I've only ever done that on the Black Sea cruise.

I'm sure you are okay with Euros in Croatia and hopefully there will be other replies for you confirming this.

Regards

Hi,

It may have been my review where I mentioned the currency.

Smiffy is correct - in Dubrovnik. It was still 10 Euros each way from the port to the walled city (Old town), share a cab with another couple and halve the fare. In the old town euros were taken freely.

However, in Rovinj (the first stop) we went to Pula and the water sellers only wanted kuna and so did the lady at the toilets - also she had no change for those that had taken kuna notes with them, all the other shops were closed! Back at Rovinj it was a mix whereby some priced in euros (took them and gave change in them), some in kuna - the worst shops however were those that took euros used their own (lousy) exchange rate aand gave change in kuna.

Second Croation stop - Zadar - again mixed but able to change euros at PO and exchanges as these were open. There were many large shops in Zadar and they took cards as well ( not a bad exchange rate either when we got home.

The Emerald does not sell kuna.

Do not worry if you have any kunas left over - our cabin steward was more than happy to take them (if you tip well anyway!)

Just remember - when comparing the cost of the trip, a few £s at most on conversion is little to worry about.

Enjoy your Croatia stops, we did!

Silver :)
