If I use the ship's laundry service (laundry bag price not per piece) can I request cold water only? I've heard from some past cruisers that it was only done in hot water and it shrunk or faded clothes.

Sorry - no special requests for laundry.
Consider the number of passengers on board and the amount of laundry that HAL has to do everyday -- napkins - table cloths -- plus passengers laundry - sheets every 3 or 4 days -- towels.
They have big industrial machines.
Everything is washed in hot water and dried on hot.

I'm surprised to learn that only hot water is used. Everything we've sent to the laundry has come back exactly right - even the dress pants I only wash in cold at home. Whatever they're doing, I have no problem with it.

There is a space on the unlimited laundry sheet for special instructions. I've never had anything damaged but on our 35 day TA we managed to come up short a pair of jeans that was never found. That was pretty accurate service for such a long trip I'd say.
It pays to keep a copy of your laundry slip (it's a triplicate and you peel off the bottom copy before you send it) and check it when the clean laundry is delivered. We learned the hard way, and oh yes, we've received other peoples' stuff but it was all packaged together so we returned it to our steward.

Hello All:
I am on the 10 day Noordam out of Rome, and we may need to use the laundry services.
Can anyone post prices for a bag of laundry and/or the unlimited option.
Thanks,
Matt

I don't know if HAL always charges the same amount for unlimited laundry. On our last cruise, 18 months ago, the charge was $75 for ten days. They did a great job and pressed everything. I think they may have ironed my socks.

We've purchased unlimited laundry service and enjoyed the convenience of it on our Westerdam and Volendam cruises. Our clothes looked great and we love the little laundry tags they put on them. (especially when your back at home and find one!) DH shirts were returned on hangars and nicely pressed, etc. I agree with the last post that it was approx $75. At one time a blouse of mine was misplaced, but our steward located it. We highly recommend this service and will be purchasing it again on our upcoming cruise.
Good idea to keep your copy of what you've sent and check it over once the laundry is returned.

Another good idea is to keep a record of what actual clothes you sent. We came back 1 shirt short on one cruise and be blowed if I could work out what or whose it was to query it.

I believe it is about $11.00 per bag so it can be cheaper by the bag (can cram a lot in there) if you only need a few bags done on a cruise. On our Oosterdam cruise it was about $8.00 to have the tux pressed after coming out of the luggage.
In all the times we have used the service our laundry was done perfectly.:D

On the suite list of Laundry items (they should be the same throughout the ship) there was a large space for instructions. I wrote some things and everything came back great.
For special items or pants that I didn't want to go into the dryer, I had them dry cleaned. It worked out really well for us however we came back with 5 less of my husbands briefs on our last load.....

More than once, the dry cleaning machine broke during our cruise and we got a 'so sorry' notice from the pursers desk. I felt bad for the pax that were depending on it for clean clothes. I would have a plan B ready in case that happens on your cruise. Happy Sailing!

Someone posted this on another thread about HAL laundry.
It should give you a good idea of the approximate charges:
