My wife and I would like to take a cruise around and near Africa that could be combined with a land tour safari; however, most the the cruises around Africa appear to be long segments of world cruises. Would prefer something upscale if possible; however, any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks.

If you want a long cruise:

http://www.princess.com/pb/itineraryDetails.do?voyageCode=T912&tourCode=&date=0909&noOfPax=2&resType=C&definition_name=

Then there are independently arranged Safari from Cape Town.
We will be doing the continuation of this -- Cape Town / Singapore and arrange an independent Safari pre-cruise.

Regent Seven Seas is offering two cruises this fall on the Navigator and again next fall on the Voyager Mumbai to Cape Town and Cape Town to Rio. You could take a cruise from Cape Town very easily.

My TA has booked us on a 3 night safari from Richard's Bay. Much cheaper than the ship's safaris.

We had a wonderful time on our Princess Safari Cruise. Check out our review and pics at http://www.elite.net/~thehalls/safari.html. The safari portion was with Micato Safaris and I really recommend them.

However, this question is one that is best answered by a local full service Travel Agent who will have access to many cruise lines and safari companies. Discuss your expectations and desires with the agent and let them make several recommendations.

Have a GREAT cruise!

Upscale it definitely isn't, but another, hopefully welcome?, suggestion would be to look at African Safari Club. They are a Swiss organisation with hotels along the African Ocean coast of Kenya, a few planes and an old, small but nice ship called Royal Star. They do cruises around that side of Africa, down to South Africa and across to Mauritius, The Seychelles, the Comores etc., combined with hotel stays and safaris in East Africa.

Might not be what you are looking for, but could give you some ideas.
