"Love in Any Language" question

It's a pleasant song, and the lyrics (which I just looked up online, and have reproduced below) express a sentiment with which it is hard to disagree. But I admit I am very curious about when and how this song became what I suppose might be characterized as HAL's theme song. (Evidently the song was made famous by Sandy Patti, but - forgive my ignorance - I've never heard of her.) Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks.

I'm guessing it was an unintentional thing. The song expressed a wonderful sentiment regarding the vast diversity among those working on a cruise ship. I think it was sung at some point and just caught on.

Sandi Patty is a Christian artist who's been around for a number of years. She will perform at the "Women of Faith" conference in Dallas later this month.

They often add "Ik hou van jou" - It (with a "k") how van jow - which is Dutch for "I love you" in the foreign languages in the front of the song .

Don't know when they first started singing it on the ships but we've heard it at least since 2000. It's a great HAL tradition and I still catch certain folks in the audience getting teary-eye'd

And it's not just HAL using this song. I heard it on Carnival last November and then, surprisingly, heard it sung by the Chinese crew on a small ship on the Yangtze River this past May. I guess it's universal!

We heard it on our first HAL cruise which was about 1992 and on every cruise since.

We never heard it on Carnival, Princess, RCI or "X".
