We are taking the Ryndam 30 day cruise to Hawaii and Tahiti. We have 8 formal nights, and the rest are casual. How is the dress for the casual evenings? Can I wear capris and tops on some of the nights? OR is that way to informal on HAL? We normally cruise RCCL, and were on the HAL Westerdam 7 night caribbean sailing, and it was appropriate then.
What are the hours of the pool and hot tubs? Are they open all night?
Are there safes in the interior cabins? How about mini fridges?
Do they have the afternoon ice cream offerings?
Any other little tips will be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Evening dress falls into two distinct categories: Formal or Smart Casual. Smart Casual can be defined as slacks and collared shirts for men and casual dresses, slacks and informal evening wear for women. T-shirts, swimsuits, tank tops and shorts are not allowed in the restaurants or public areas during the evening hours. On festive Formal evenings, ladies usually wear a suit, cocktail dress or gown and gentlemen wear a jacket and tie, dark suit or tuxedo. There are approximately two formal nights per week.
In order to complement your fellow guests, Holland America Line asks that you observe the suggested dress code throughout the entire evening.

Deb, I wear capris with a nice top more than once. I also bring slack because to be honest, they keep the ship cool enough that I need my legs covered in the evening.
The free ice cream is mahvelous dahling, try the cinnamon it's to die for.
The safe is in the closet and on the Ryndam you work it by using a card with magnetic strip. DH uses his drivers license, some us a library card etc.
There really is no room to add a mini frige to an inside or OV room. We generally have the steward bring us a champagne bucket and drop a few cans of soda in. He then keeps it full of ice for us. Works great.
The times can change for the pools and the hot tubs. Suffice it to say they never keep either open as late as I would like.
