Is there a thread in progress for previous Zaandam passengers? My new hubby and I are sailing btb east/west carribean on 11/27 & 12/4 to celebrate (belated honeymoon/anniversary). I am just curious to know more details about the Zaandam, it's crew, amenities, etc. We will be in a port side "S" suite.

I have previously sailed on Noordam, Ryndam, Maasdam and Statendam and have never been disappointed, but this is my new hubbies first sail.

I have sailed the Zaandam 4 times, and we are booked for 17 days in Dec. on her. There is a great crew onboard right now, any specific questions I can answer for you, please ask away...jean

I haven't been on the Zaandam since 2000 but I LOVED the Zaandam.

Sorry, I can't help you with current crew, but I can tell you that the ship is fabulous!

I have sailed on smaller (Veendam & Maasdam) and larger (Zuiderdam) and while I enjoyed ALL of my cruises, the Zaandam was "just right" and holds so many special memories for me. :)

What are the big differences in the two ships? We loved the Zuiderdam and planning on sailing on the Zaandam in April.

They are very different ships. Zaandam and her sister, Volendam, closely resemble Rotterdam/Amsterdam and even Statendam sisters. Zaandam is somewhat larger but not that much.

But Zaandam to Zuiderdam are very, very different. Zudm is much larger, totally different deck plans, more decks, and carries alot more pax.

I like both but they are quite different IMO

We sailed on the Zaandam's Christmas cruise last year, and we enjoyed her so much, we are booked on her Christmas cruise this year, too.

She is lovely, I think. She has a beautiful library and a really nice Internet Cafe. Artwork and flowers everywhere. Nice crew...and nice people aboard her, too. At Christmastime, she is festive indeed!

I cannot wait to get back on board! :)

We sailed on the Zaandam in 2002 and loved her. The crew was fabulous, but I'm sure they've changed since then. The food was great.

:) Okey doke, jean. Thanks for the invite. I'll check in this evening...right now, duty calls!

Try the Search option near the top of this page, pjhusk. If you type Zaandam in the Advanced Search option (Search Entire Posts), and limit to Holland America in Search Forum/s, you will get a bunch of threads in which she is mentioned. Not all of them are limited to the Zaandam, of course, but there are some wonderful nuggets of info, and the threads sure are fun to read! When I searched this way, the seventh or eighth thread down was a Zaandam thread.

We sailed Zaandam last Thanksgiving and loved it. Of course this was our very first cruise so we don't have anything to compare it to. We are going to try the Zuiderdam in March.

Dear PJHusk,

Rev. Greg will be sailing on the Zaandam this weekend for 3 weeks. He has promised to post his report while onboard the ship. I am sure we will be able to receive many answers to our questions while he is sailing. I will be sailing on the Zaandam for one week in the middle of October and will also be able to reply to your postings after my return.

Happy Sailing To All
