Hi,
I have been on 6 or 7 Windstar cruises in the past and am ready for something different. Can anyone comment on how Oceania would compare to Windstar (the only line I have ever used). Thanks. Joanne

I think you will find a number of differences between Windstar and Oceania - we have been on both and love each of them. However, Windstar is a different experience - smaller ships (148+ pass.) uses sails (sometimes) but it quite informal and casual.
Oceania is also informal and casual, but is a true cruise ship, still on the small side (700 pass.) but offers wider itineraries, superior service and a wider dining choice. Windstar has only one dining venue, Oceania has four...
Make your decision based on where and when you want to go.....
Either way, I don't think you will be unhappy.....

I also would consider your age..average age on Oceania is older than on Windstar..I have also been on both and loved both..I find more to do on Oceania..

Just out of curiousity what is the average age of Windstar? We did Oceania this summer and were quite surprised at how old it was it. When we had originally booked with our travel agent, we were lead to believe (she had checked with Oceania) that it was a cruise line that attracted a lot of couples in their late 40's early 50's (he is 46, I'm 38). When we got on board, yes, there were some 40's couples but the vast majority of cruisers were early 70's. We loved the ports though and quite liked the cruise ship itself.

It is also a mixed age group. These are basically adult ships.
Since neither of these lines cater to children, people who have kids that they want to vacation with will take their cruises on other lines that do. And, then it would depend on time of year too when people can get away.

We've cruised twice on Windstar--in Costa Rica and Istanbul-to-Athens. We're in our 50s, and there were lots of folks younger than us on the cruises. Most Windstar cruises are one week, and they seemed to attract people like us who needed to get back to the office in a reasonable amount of time.
