First and foremost, I wish everyone in Florida and the east coat my prayers as Jeanne nears.

Second, we are headed to FLL tomorrow (Friday) and will board the "Z" on Saturday (or at least that is the plan right now).

What weather conditions close Port Everglades?

I'm still hoping that Jeanne takes a turn away from the US but it doesn't look promising.

Any word would be helpful. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Haven't looked at the projected path yet, but I like this link:

http://html.nbc17.com/sh/idi/weather/hurricanes/hurricanetracker.html

As long as the ship can get out of port they can take you away from the storm.

Right now it looks to be heading in the same path as Frances, and if this continues, it should have no effect on Ft. Lauderdale.

When I left to go to lunch today Navy computer models had it coming in around Savannah (yikes!). Now that I am back home the latest forecast on Wunderground shows all the computer models in agreement for about the same place as Frances, not good news for Florida.

Unfortunately we are getting used to this routine in Orlando after having significant impacts from Charley and Frances...

I know the drill by heart now...

I was just getting used to having electricity for a whole week in a row!!!! :o

Deb, thanks for your good wishes. We will need it. At this time (5:00 Thursday) they are still quite unsure of the track. It may or may not affect Ft Lauderdale. Some tracks have it to the south of West Palm where it could effect Pt. Everglades and some to the North where it would not.

It's interesting you mention Jeanne because the silence on these boards as regards at least 3 hurricanes (Jeanne, Lisa and Karl) surging in the Atlantic and Ivan back in the Gulf has seemed a bit odd to me.

The hurricane force winds are only 45 miles from the center, but the tropical force winds are 140 miles from the center. Tropical force can be anywhere up to 75 mph. The timing of it is such that we won't really know until the last minute exactly when she will turn to the North or whether she will even turn at all. If not, it could affect your departure. Sorry not to have better news for you!

This site shows a number of possible tracks: BoatUS Hurricane Center (http://www.boatus.com/hurricanes/hurricane_spaghetti.asp)

Seeing the path that Jeanne is taking right now, you should have no problems arrriving in Ft Lauderdale or sailing on Saturday.

Here in Western PA we hope to get no more rain from the after effects of tropical storms or hurricanes. It has been very devasting here in our own county from Ivan - 820,000 people affected out of 1.2 million in our county alone - 13 counties have been severly hard hit. The ground is so saturated from the effects of 2 hurricanes (first time in history) - we can't take any more rain.

GO AWAY JEANNE!

So much for my prediction of Jeanne skirting the east coast of Florida and missing us. Right now according to NOAA.gov it looks like it's coming in at West Palm and heading up the middle of the state for Orlando.

So many changes in such little time...maybe things will change again! I'm sick and tired of these storms.:(

Bite your tongue!!!:D Jeanne is not welcome under any circumstances in West Palm!!! Still that is one of the many track scenerios. There are also many tracking her off the coast entirely and that is my fondest wish. If you click on the site I show above, you can see all the different forecasts.

But currently NOAA says the Treasure Coast ... somewhere around where Frances made landfall. They need that up there like a hole in the head.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone.
HAL's site is saying that they feel Port Everglades will be closed by Saturday so it appears right now that the current cruise isn't coming back on Saturday and we won't be leaving.
DH says we are nuts to leave in the morning to vacation with a hurricane (no offense Floridians) not knowing when/if we will leave at all.

What happened the last time?

This is what appears on the HAL website right now, no decision has been made about Port Everglades being closed at this time. They say to check before leaving for the 9/25 departure. It does seem HAL is communicating better this time around. I read this info earlier Thursday evening and checked again this morning. I think there may have been verbage changes, it was not as clear last night as it is this morning. Of course it could be that I was so tired last night I wasn't comprehending things properly, LOL

Hurricane Update
September 23, 2004, - 6:00 pm, PDT

ms Zuiderdam cruise that departed September 18

Hurricane Jeanne continues to proceed in an erratic manner. In order to best protect the safety of our passengers, the ship will spend Friday, September 24, at sea far away from the storm.

Due to the erratic nature of the storm, the Coast Guard has announced that it may close Port Everglades on Friday or Saturday. In that event, the end of the cruise, currently scheduled for Saturday morning, September 25th, will be delayed until the Coast Guard permits the ship to enter port. The ship will then remain at sea, again far from the storm.

At this time, however, no final decision has been made to close Port Everglades. Consequently, the present schedule remains in place. Passengers on the ship are being kept advised of developments as they are known.

The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority. We continue to monitor Jeanne and will post any additional changes that may become necessary. Please check this website regularly.

ms Zuiderdam Cruise Departing September 25

If the ship is able to enter Port Everglades on Saturday, the cruise departing September 25th will proceed on schedule. In that event, there will still be an itinerary change with the ship calling at San Juan, Puerto Rico instead of Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.

If the ship's entry into Port Everglades is delayed, that will result in a delay in the beginning of the September 25th cruise and additional changes in the itinerary.

We will post another update by 8:00 am (PDT) on this website. We strongly suggest that passengers on the September 25th cruise do not depart for Florida until they have read the new update.

Please check this website regularly.

Are you ready? This morning's path seems to have it coming for a visit up near us. I am so weary of this season. Stay safe everyone, and my prayers are with all of us in the path of this hurricane.

Lois, I see it coming to Savannah too. My husband is an insurance adjustor working in Pensacola. He is having to drive 4 hours each way to get to work in Pensacola. There are no motel rooms anywhere near there and no rental cars. What a mess down there! My heart goes out to all those people.
I guess we will all just have to see what erratic Mean Jeanne does next. We may not know until just before landfall.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in Florida too. What a year it has been. Last week, driving back from Virginia Beach, we saw the most awful floods in Southern Ohio courtesy of Ivan, All houses and businesses were totally under water. I leave Monday morning from Charlotte NC for 2 weeks in Mexico, unless Jeanne gets up there earlier...then who knows!!......jean

Every advisory shows a different path at a different time. Of course I don't want it to hit ANY land at all and there is still a chance, since it STILL hasn't hit the Bahamas that the "high" pressure area could steer it north AWAY from land. This is my prayer.

Those of us who live in Florida and in any area that has been hit with these storms all summer are living in anxiety and NONE of us have ANY desire for ANY of the US to be hit with ANYTHING!

I know I just got my power on last week and was out for 2 weeks. Should Jeanne hit again, I doubt we'll have power for a month since all the power companies have been sent to the panhandle of Florida.

I don't think we'll have a better idea of where she's going until Saturday night. My hope, should she come ashore is that she is much weakened and we're all prepared to hunker down yet again.

Pray for the best and be prepared for the worst and we all hope all your prayers are with us...once again.;)

Reverand Neal....how about a special little prayer for all of us?
Thank you!:)

The Schools are closed here Monday.........
Wish us luck everyone.......

Hello everyone,
My son just called. He was married this past Saturday and they are honeymooning in Disneyworld. He was to come home Sunday night, but he was told by the hotel, they had to leave. So.....according to him....."we'll be home sometime tomorrow-just thought I'd call so you wouldn't worry."......Yeah...right...mom=worry.

Stay safe,
Pat.

All READ HAL WEBSITE -- Port Everglades closing Friday p.m.on orders of the Coast Guard and Zuiderdam will not land until Monday a.m. -- 27th instead of 25th. All of the price adjustments, etc. are listed but the next cruise will be for 5 days, etc.

I am so truly sorry that Florida and the rest of the already damaged areas are faced with this AGAIN!

I honestly don't know how any of you are finding the strength to endure this pain, loss and anguish over and over again.

Yet, my heart really goes out to those poor Islanders! They have such poor conditions to start out with! Where is their hope for things to ever get back to normal? At least for the most part we are a financially strong nation that continues to support each other during these catastrophic times.

I can only hope that all of our prayers go a very long way!

Please know that my heart and prayers remain with all facing their own tragedies this day and those ahead!

We have been lucky only to have very minor damage and hopefully will get through Jeanne as well...my DH works with people from the islands and he told me that some have to chain themselves to trees to keep from getting blown away by the wind and/or surge because there is just no where to go for safety. That is just inconceivable to me. Haiti is in big trouble. They are already talking about disease and riots on the news.
