I've read that many seem to think the tours are overly expensive. Moreso than other cruises? Aren't they all?

How does one go about finding a trustworthy tour operator on their own though?

They seem to be very expensive......more so than other cruises.

We've had good luck finding reputable tour operators by reading reviews
and asking questions of cruise critic members. For our South America and Antarctica cruise I kept a list of the most used and recommended tour operators, e-mailed a few of them, and then made my decision. Advice from other cruise critic members is invaluable.
