If you have dinner in the lido is the menu the same as in the main dining room on the Ryndam. Would that include "Lobster night". Also can anyone tell me what night if any is the Chefs dinner on the Ryndam 7 days to Mexico Sept, 28 08.
Thank so much...

Yes, the dinner selection in the Lido is pretty much the same as what one would have in the formal dining room on Ryndam that same night with one exception; In the Lido, there will be five, not seven, entrees to choose from. I've never seen lobster on the menu there but that doesn't mean they don't serve it - Have a great cruise to the Mex Riviera!!

We have seen, and eaten, lobster in the Lido several times. This has only been on longer cruises however.
There will not be chilled soups, the desserts are different and not as many appetizers will be offered in the Lido.
That said we enjoy Lido dining quite often during our cruises.

Muchas gracias, lobster lady!;)

Is it possible to dine outside in the Lido (specifically the Noordam)?
Also, is there typically a specific night on 10 day cruises that are considered Dutch night in the dining room? I ask because I didn't want to make reservations at the Pinnacle Grill and miss this. I love Nasi Goreng.
Hope I haven't driven this thread off-topic.
Thank you.

Is the Lido cafeteria style? Or are there waiters? Can we still get wine? Is it indoors or outdoors?

Is the Lido cafeteria style? Or are there waiters? Can we still get wine? Is it indoors or outdoors? As I recall, the Lido is cafeteria style for breakfast and lunch, except you don't return your tray. Dinner is a bit different. You pick up your appetizers/salads/desserts, but order your entree (they have examples of each available entree on display). We were pretty tired (which is why we were in the Lido for dinner), but I seem to remember getting a slip of paper, which a steward picked up from our table and a bit later came back with our entrees.
If that's not how it works, someone will correct me.
Don't know about the wine. And I noticed what seemed to be an outdoor Lido dining area on the last day of our cruise.

On Noordam (two weeks ago) the menu was the same and for the first time in all of our cruises we skipped the dining room our last night and went to the Lido after having a poor customer service experience the night before. Boy were we surprised. The dining tables were covered with white table cloths. Servers offered to carry our trays and they took our order for the entree and brought it to the table when ready (tables numbered). Note that we picked up the other courses buffet style and a diner near us was unhappy his courses were served together (heard him complain to his wife) but we did not expect service at all so were actually impressed with this dining option.

We missed this night two years in a row and I think it may have been the night of the BBQ (Barcelona in 2007 on Westerdam, and Santorini - Eastern Med 2008 on Noordam). We went to the Pinnacle on the 3rd night which this year for us was casual and after Dubrovnik.

Dinner dining is only inside -- all the tables have numbers on them -- thus they know where you are sitting to ring your dinner to you.
But there is nothing stopping you from taking your dessert outside.
You will have to go to the dining room - usually around noon time -- to see the duinner menu to determine when the Nasi Goreng will be. It's not really Dutch night anymore -- no hats -- dining room no longer decorated.

Yes - there is a wine steward so that you can order cocktails or wine.

Just a thought, if you don't want to eat in the dining room on "lobster night" but still want lobster you can order room service. I ordered room service on the veendam due to DW not feeling well and they brought me 4 lobster tails as I requested.

I'm not a HAL expert but you're right Nasi Goreng is an Indonesian dish that is common in Holland, other parts of the Netherlands and former Dutch colonies.
A good friend is Dutch but grew up on Saint Martin and she makes it for me when I am lucky.

On a couple of ships Basi Goreng was offered for lunch in the dining room.
It really varies by ship and itinerary.

Usually around 8:30 - 9 -- varies by ship and itinerary.
Check your daily program for the times.
Since the ships have switched over to the AYWD dining, the Lido dining times are longer than what they used to be.

Here's a hot tip for you Indonesian food lovers: build up a good/friendly relationship with your area supervisor/asst/2nd DR manager in the dining room once onboard. He is the person who can get the Chef to make you a "Rijsttafel" (not on the menu) for dinner one night. Enak sekali!/Delicious!:)

There is also a themed buffet every night at 10:30 in the Lido. The themes are countries such a German, Indonesian, Italian etc. Good food is served at this time.

No clue what vindaloo (find the loo?) is;) but a Rijsttafel (literally Dutch for "Rice Table") is an Indonesian meal in which rice (sometimes Nasi Goreng - yellow rice - sometimes fried rice) is served on the ship typically accompanied by a small variety of other foods such as Sateh Ayam (chicken) on skewers dipped in peanut sauce, an egg, a perkedel (small meatball), usually a chicken leg and a couple of pieces of kroepoek (shrimp toast). In Indonesian restaurants in Holland, the Rijsttafel can be real eloborate. On the ships, they don't have the space and the time but the plate they will give you is outstanding and enak sekali! If you ask for it and like spicey food, they will give you a condiment called "Sambal" in a little jar. MAke sure you have about thirteen glasses of water ready because just a couple of dips of that bad boy will put some heat in your mouth!

Sounds good. Can't wait to try. A "vindaloo" is the Indian version of this I think? Lots of water etc.

HUH?
No one goes hungry on a cruise ship.
I think the LIDO is open for lunch for about 4+ hours each day for lunch. After the Lido closes for lunch, there are always sandwiches and desert like things and ice cream available as well as the grill, serving burgers, hot dogs, fries and the Taco bar.

DH loves "Sambal" -- spices have never been a problem for him -- has never even had to have 1 glass of water when he has it -- and he puts a lot on!!

Water will just spread the heat in your mouth, what you want is rice or bread to absorb the "heat"

Does anyone know what time the Lido closes at night?I think dinner service is like from 5:30 to 7:00 or 7:30. The Lido doesn't close down after that, but dinner is no longer served.
That's the only problem I have with dining in the Lido. The hours of service are so limited for dinner, and so early.

Actually vindaloo is a very very spicey indian sauce so I don't think it's anything like this. I love vindaloo but man it's got a nasty kick. I love ultra hot food but more then one time my stomach has been burning for days after the vindaloo. It can be painful. Love the sambel. I have a jar open at all times at home.

Nasi Goreng -- rice -- that is the one that served most often for dinner -- mainly because people like rice better than noodles.
Bami Goreng -- noodles.
Otherwise -- they are pretty much the same.
