I am actually thinking about doing some investing and since we have been cruising so much with HAL I thought about buying 50 to 100 shares. Although I understand it does me no good for credits unless I have 100 shares.
I was just curious how many CC members have invested in CCL?

We bought Carnival stock many, many years ago when it was just $12 a share. I think it is now around $44 a share.

We really haven't used it at all the last couple of years to get shipboard credit since we use our AM EX Plat card.

I've had it for many years. I use it on a CCL cruise a few years back and about to use it again on my upcoming HAL cruise.

I have 100 shares, but my TA doesn't seem to know how to get the onboard credit for me. What should I tell her or what should I do to get it? I have already made final payment. Is it too late?

It is currently at 48.02, I should of bought in mid August when it took a drop. I think I will watch it for a week and see what it does. It opened at $47.70 this morning.

It is not too late. Just send in proof of ownership, such as a broker statement showing the stock or if you have the actual stock certificate, a copy of the stock. With the proof send with it a copy of your booking statement. I don't have the address, it is at my office. But the info is in the annual Carnival shareholders report. You can get the info online.

Here is the fax number 206-298-3059.

Reference your booking id, ship and sail date. I just sent in a copy of my most recent monthly statement from my broker.

Those CCL shares are great. They do not work with SOME promos though. We have used ours on HAL and also on Princess. They can also be used on Carnival and any of their lines. The annual report will have the fax number for each line and the in some cases, the contact person.

We bought them at 18-7/8 when they still used fractions. Best investment we ever made. They pay dividends as well.

I just purchased 100 shares in June. It looks like it has been a good investment and I will be using it for credit on 2 cruises next year and 1 this year. That alone has made more for me than my index fund investments.

We bought 100 shares of Carnival in 2001 at $18. We have received the shipboard credit on every cruise since then (twice a year). We purchased another 200 shares at less than $25. The stock is currently selling in the area of $48. It has been a good investment and we have received dividends quartely since we purchase the stock. Dividends, shipboard credits, increase in value..... all good reasons to own Carnival stock.

How much shipboard credit do you get? Is it based on the amount of stocks you hold? Is there a limit per year? If you get a discount price on a cruise can you use it?

Thank you so much. I will take care of this on Monday. Should I go through my TA or just write directly to Carnival?

Carnival just posted a billion dollars in the last quarter! They're doing quite well. They have 5 new ships on order, so, barring a huge change in the world economy, things look rosy for CCL. I've used the stock for a $100 cabin credit for seven day cruises (more for longer ones) on several of their lines. Even got a nice note from the purser's office on QM2 thanking me for investing in their future (LOL). No problem.
If you'd like to play both sides of the fence, Royal Caribbean offers the same deal for over 100 shares.
Caveat investor!

That FAX number I gave is for HAL not CCL. CCL has their own number. You need to fax your broker statement to the cruise line you are booked on.
It's probably just easier and faster if you fax it in directly yourself, otherwise your TA will be doing a FAX of a FAX and it will be delayed. DO tell your TA so it can be checked and verified on the agency confirmation they get from the cruise line.

We have had our CCL stock for about 4 yrs now and have used it three times a year since.

shipgirl56 - you must have at least 100 shares of stock

The following is for this year:

Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 14 days or longer - $250
Onboard credit per stateroom on sailing of 7 to 13 days - $100
Onboard credit per stateroom on sailing of 6 days or less - $50

Hope this helps you. We also have RC stock but have never been on an RC ship---- but the program is about the same. Penny

Thanks so much for the number and the advice. My ticket says I have $50 shipboard credit for some offer I assume my TA got. Should I assume that the $100 (stock) credit will be in place of the $50 or in addition to the $50 making it $150..... :D :D :D

DH and I also have 100 shares of CCL which we have owned since 2000. Against my recommendations, my father said he was going to wait until the price dropped below what we paid for it before he bought his 100 shares. Needless to say, he's still waiting. :-> We also use the shipboard credits 2-3 times per year and the credits do encourage us to sail on those lines that are owned by CCL. On Cunard this past July, in addition to the shipboard credit we were also given a bon-voyage bottle of champagne for being shareholders. A very nice touch.

I'm not sure if I would buy more shares in the current $47-49 range, but I do agree Carnival does seem to be the most financially stable of all of the lines at the present time. So this price may still be a reasonable buy. Of course, I always recommend doing some fundamental analysis before purchasing any stock. I NEVER allow others to convince me to buy any equities without doing my homework first....well at least most of the time anyway. :->

Happy Travels.

CruisenNana,

In my experience, most shipboard credit offers cannot be combined with other shipboard credit offers. So, you will most likely be receiving only the $100 CCL stock shipboard credit and have to forgo the other $50 credit you received. But, your TA or HAL can confirm this for you.

You might be able to do both...send it in and see what happens! I booked my cruise under a special promotion (reduced price not shipboard credit) and was able to also get my CCL stockholder OB credit as well.

I've had a few hundred shares of CCL for about 10 years now. Decent dividend but the shipboard credit is worth more.

Expect a dip in share price over the next month or so because the company has incurred some stiff expenses and added costs from the severe weather issues.

I suggest you place an open buy order at $45 with your broker unless you absolutely need the shares to get the credit right now.

However, take my stock advice as that of a rank amateur investor, not as a qualified stock analyst.

I bought 100 shares of stock, called HAL and got the fax number, and a week later reconfirmed that the credit is being applied to my upcoming (March 27) cruise. No stock investment is without risk, but it appears that the cruise lines are not doing too much deep discounting. As a customer, I would rather see some bargains. As a stockholder, I am happy and look forward to watching the stock prices climb over the next ten years.

How much shipboard credit do you get?
Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 14 days or longer - $250
Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 7 to 13 days - $100
Onboard credit per stateroom on sailings of 6 days or less - $50
This is per cabin.

Is it based on the amount of stocks you hold?
You must own 100 shares.

Is there a limit per year?
No
If you get a discount price on a cruise can you use it?
Most of the time yes, you can use it. There are cases where they will not allow it.
It cannot be combined with other ship board credits, but every now and then I read where some did get the stock credit combined with another promo credit. I don't think they are supposed to do this, but somehow it got through.

I am happy to report since I started this thread back in September I did buy 100 share and tomorrow when I board the MS WESTERDAM I will be recieving an extra $100 ship board credit because of CCL stock. I should also be getting two more of them this year.:) Now the stock has had it's ups and downs but I am still ahead of what I spent. The extra ship board credit is a great bonus and was easy to get.
