View Full Version : GG vs. CA and Likelihood of Seasickness w/ CA?

I have a prior posting about the CA category staterooms on Eurodam, but have received no responses. (Given that there are only four cabins on the ship, I'm not surprised that there have been no comments.)

On another note, should I be worried about this location as far as seasickness is concerned (at least it's a Caribbean cruise and not a transatlantic)? I never get seasick on ships, but, then again, I've never stayed in the forward section of the ship (let alone in this extreme location). The room size (240-270 square feet), large window looking over the bow, and higher likelihood of upgrade to a balcony are very tempting, but I don't want to put myself into a room that will make me sick.

I also was considering the CA cabin because I assumed that I could easily traverse the top deck by the magrodome to get to the aft pool. Is this even possible b/c of the retreat area?

So that you're aware, I'm currently booked in GG4098 (which is a 173-square-foot, midship, obstructed oceanview with floor-to-ceiling windows).

The selection of cabins in order to combat mal de mer is not going to help you an awful (no pun intended) lot. If you're prone to seasickness and if the ship you're on is encountering a lot of motion due to swells or, holy moly, a good size storm, you can get sick wherever find yourself.

As far as traversing the top deck, the CA cat cabins are on Panorama Deck while the retreat and her infamous cabanas are one deck higher on Observation Deck. So yes, you can traverse Panorama Deck to go aft but then have to take a set of stairs in a downward motion to get to the aft pool on Lido Deck which is one deck lower than Panorama Deck. Are you lost, yet?;)

I don't envision any rough seas in the Caribbean at that time, but we'll see. I just know from past experience that the theater in the front of the ship are a little rocky. I only really sleep in the room and I have never been sea sick on a cruise ship before, so I'm not really concerned. It's a $400 difference in price for a single (GG4098 is $1110 and CA GTY is $1510), but it's a significant difference in space as you can tell from the original posting and has a great shot of an upgrade to a balcony (which would have cost me an extra $1050 for a single).

Let's keep it that way (not getting sick) I would do it if I were in your shoes - More space plus you get a great view of what the Bridge sees two decks below. Have a great cruise on Eurodam!
