We wlll be returning to New Orleans on a Sunday in Feb 2009. The last time we returned to New Orleans, the port was a mess, and it took hours to disembark, and find a cab to the airport. I have an early flight{11:30AM}, and hope it has gotten better.

We cruised in July and debarkation was a snap. We were home (in Kenna) by 10 - and that wasn't hurryin' at all.

Going to the airport by taxi? Best way, as our cabbies go like the wind.:D They'll definitely get you there on time for your flight.....IF there's no hangups at debarkation.

Shouldn't be a problem. Lots of cabs waiting at the cruise terminal to make the 30-40 minute ride, depending on traffic. Cab fare for 1 or 2 people is $28 + 1 fuel surcharge. Ok it there are atleast two of you....killer if you are traveling solo.

Which Sunday in Feb? Mardi Gras is in full swing (parades begin Jan 6th & go on until Fat Tuesday Feb. 24) and roads will be blocked by tons of people, traffic or for floats on the parade routes etc.... our cruise leaves NO in Sunday Feb 22nd and we're going to be fighting parades that day. We will have to arrive extremely early to beat the parades.

This site shows all of the parade routes by date & time.

this shows the map to the port and the surrounding areas.

You can see how some parade routes roll on Tchoupitoulas St./South Peters St. which are the main streets to get to & from the port. If you decide to stay in a hotel prior to your cruise or returning from it; you better book a room now; it's quite late but you might find something. good luck!!
