View Full Version : Is the Rotterdam having Mechanical difficulties???

Okay now I am a bit worried. Can we get a statement from HAL either denying or explaining the difficulties the Rotterdam is "alledgedly" having on it's present cruise from someone at HAL???

I don't like to believe hearsay, but being that my DH and I and some friends I have raved about HAL are to sail her in less than 70 days I am a bit worried. If this is not true, HAL doesn't want the "bad press", but if it is true, when will the difficulties be fixed??? Others have noted that the Ship has had other problems this summer on her transatlantic voyages. Thanks to all for straightening out the record and hopefully alleviating our fears!

Could we keep to one thread on this subject until more facts are known?

Sorry Dave, I posted this prior to the report of the Rotterdam experiencing rough seas, at that point the only thread about it was entitles "oleProf" and hardly likely to catch anyone's eye.:(

My attempt was just to get the facts, I am sorry if that offended you, it truly was not meant too!

You didn't offend me at all. I was just suggesting that - with all the rumors starting to run about - it would be best to try to be sure everyone was at least on the 'same page' until something more official (or at least confirmed) was available. I was really hoping to head off others posting to this thread as well as the (at this point) other 2 ;)

Sorry if I was a bit curt :)

If anyone can tell me how to delete a post as duplicatious (sp?) I would be happy to remove this tread. So far I have not discovered that trick if there is one.

I do remember RuthC's trip and I totally understand that seas can be high in the North Atlantic ( I remember the picture of the gangway perched precariously on the front deck of the Veranda Deck, having been "tossed" up there is high seas, that was mind-blowing! ) Just hope that no one was seriously hurt.:(

Localady, the cruise I was on when we had those rough seas was last year.
This year's crossings were like sailing in a bathtub.

Yes, the North Atlantic can get rough. Last year was 38 solid hours of 45' seas; I'm betting that there was more damage with only three hours at 60' seas. There was an earlier crossing (perhaps the 2001 Amsterdam before mine? perhaps the 2002 Rotterdam? I don't remember) had such severe weather that the glass door to the aft pool smashed. I do remember a missing door.

Hopefully, any injuries this time are few and minor. I'll be interested in reading accurate posts when the full story in known.

We were on the Rotterdam transatlantic this summer right after Ruth C. and Grannynurse's 30 some day one. Ours was 17 days with only calm seas and with no mechanical problems. Everything on the cruise went smoothly and the Rotterdam was in excellent condition.

I was also hoping that someone had some news this morning.

Would like to know what really happened and if everyone is alright.

Been away from this a bit. I met with Rotterdam Crewmembers in Newport on Octobet 1st. She experianced rough seas on her transatlantic crossing with a casualty to the Fin stablizers and one Deisel engine. She got tossed about pritty good but injories were not that bad from what I heard from the crew. However, all isfine now with my last corrispondance with the ship.

Plus the webcast took place from the Rotterdam (at first) in New York so she seems to be on her correct schedule! :)

I am on the Rotterdam and we are cruising off Long Island, having left NYC at the scheduled 8:00pm departure (scheduled late because of a press event). All is fine. Forget all rumors. The ship is running as usual and I have already eaten more bread pudding than I should have.
