I understand that the ship's policy is clear on bringing on alcoholic beverages..nothing other than wine and champagne. I was wondering if they care how much 'soft' drinks you carry on board ....bottled water, etc. And when you stop at ports...same question. It's not a problem to bring back a sixpack of a something 'soft' is it?

Its not a p[roblem - In July I carried on a couple 12 packs of Diet Mt Dew as well as a few 2 liter bottles. All in my carryon luggage. No problem whatsoever

You can bring soft drinks on board. A six pack or two should be no problem.
This holds true for port stops also.

We just tied luggage tags onto two cases of bottled water and checked them. No one gave us any trouble. Other people that I met on the cruise also said that they just carried on soda, and they were fine.

Sorry, just my opinion, but I have to laugh at the folks that can afford to cruise, yet nickle and dime the beverages...

If they sold my brand, I would likely not bring any, though if I had a particular favorite not available on board, I probably would bring a few bottles.:)

I don't think it is always a case of nickle and diming.
I seldom touch soda, but there are those that are Pepsi fans and hate Coke. I think there was a recent post about Dr.Pepper that is not carried on board either.

Exactly. If they stocked Diet Mountain Dew and offered it at a reasonable cost - I probably wouldn't bring mine along. Everyone has their own tastes

I don't understand those who can't understand trying to save a little money. If I weren't frugal I wouldn't be able to cruise and THAT isn't an option! Our shipboard account is always more than the cruise itself so we do spend enough money on board and that doesn't even include the casino donations.

I dont understand why people feel its necessary to pay 3 times as much for a drink of anything just because they can, Or how people feel that just because they can afford to pay for something, others who cant or refuse too are labeled nickel and dimming! Guess money cant buy compassion :)

. . . if I can save $20-25 by bringing my own soda, I can buy something REALLY cool - like another night at the Pinnacle, or better yet, a gift to take home to someone. Either way, the cruise line or the merchant makes money from my wise(r) spending. It's just nice to be able to make a choice about where the money is spent. I guess for someone in my income bracket the tough choices are about smaller amounts of $$, and they happen more frequently (than some people think they should).

That doesn't necessarily make me cheap.

As someone who never brings any soft drinks (or liquor, for that matter) aboard, I always wonder......

It's obvious that when you are in your cabin, if you want a soft drink, you simply take one from your supply and enjoy it.

But....if you are out and about around the ship.....do you make a trip back to your cabin to go get a can of soda? Where do you then get your glass and ice? From a bar? Or do you take the glass from your cabin with you around the ship? Doesn't your cabin steward wonder where the glass went when it isn't there the next day?

I'm sure the staff shakes their collective heads in glee at the dumb passengers who overtip and overpay.

GIZMO -- Thanks, you were right on point. A while back, an HAL rep informed me that they have a contract with Coca Cola and therefore can only carry those products. Since I'm a Pepsi junkie & I don't care for Coke, she told me to feel free to bring it on board. A 12-pack is in my carryon each sailing to enjoy in our cabin, but I certainly would not abuse the permitted option by bringing a case on board. Has nothing to do with nickel-and-dime savings. We enjoy patronizing the bars & lounges and have made the acquaintance of lots of nice folks in the process. :)
