Vegas Cruisers?? Anyone interested in joining a thread with all those nearby Vegas that love cruising??
My DH and I have been cruising for the last 10+ years and are definitely addicted to it. We don't feel right unless we have at least , preferably 2 or more, cruises planned for the next year... We've cruised on Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Holland America to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada/New England. We usually always get a balcony room since I just have to smell the ocean air not to mention the seeing the ocean going by my cabin window/door.

Come share your cruise stories and your favorite places and cruise lines.

Well, even though we don't live in Vegas I think we're closest to get on your thread that you started. Just wanted to let you know I found it. The way I'am with computers it wasn't easy. I will write more later, have to head to town for a drawing at one of the casinos, maybe I'll get lucky. Looking forward to meeting you and your other half on Sunday or Mon. Maybe I can pick your brain about my problems with this stupid computer. Badlands

Hi Dan and Nancy,
So you are going on the Monarch later in Sept. When you say that you are doing a B2B, are you doing both the 3 day and 4 day?? We are going on the 9/15 sailing and leave for LA to visit family on Sunday and then will stay at the Crown Plaza Sunday night. We have never been on the Monarch, but a lot of the people on our very enthusiastic rollcall have been and say it is wonderful... We will try to take good care of her for you..:)

We have cruised RCL, Princess, and HAL. Love all of them.. Of course, what's not to love about being on the ocean.
Glad that you found the site and please get anyone else you might know in Vegas to join in. There have to be a lot of us in the "desert" that love to escape with cruising..

Badlands- Glad that you found the site too. As far as computer ease. No, no, that is not me. I've learned so much on this CC site other than just fabulous info about cruising. I find CCers so helpful in any area that you might need help. Nonnie, from our Monarch rollcall, helped me get this Vegas Cruisers site (like her Arizona Cruisers site) up and running and accessible from my signature.
Look forward to meeting you onboard the Monarch next Monday. Yeah!!

Hello teachergal, badlands and rednancy.

I'm Mike from way up north in Carson City. I know the OP was looking for those in LV or close by. As you well know, out west anything within 4 or 5 hundred miles can be considered "close by" Anyway, count me in. I'll keep checking back from time to time.

No cruises lined up. We did two this year, the last being a Monarch 3-nighter back in June. I was looking at the 9/29 roll call as my mother (her first cruise) and three of her cronies are on that sailing and saw the link to this thread (thanks rednancy!). Hopefully the fine folks in FL will take good care of her!

All of our cruises have been on Royal. We've been happy with them so far, not too motivated to stray for the time being. I would like to hit diamond, then maybe give the X a try. I hear good things about them and they'll give you elite status if your diamond on RC.

Happy cruising to all!

Hi,
We're Toby and Laine from Las Vegas. I love to cruise, DH enjoys it, but mostly goes because I like it so much. :) DH is semi retired, and we have slowed down our cruises, because we now have time to use our little RV, take the dogs, and see kids back East. We had done about one a year since 1995, but now we're down to about one every year and a half or two. I'd LIVE on a ship!!! :)
We've cruised HAL, RCI, and Princess and are Platinum on Princess. We have cruised in the Caribbean, to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Alaska, and the Mexican Riviera. We keep dreaming of the Med, but haven't done it yet. Our next cruise is a Mex. Riv. one, as we are looking forward to driving to port, instead of flying. We like sea days and being on the ship, sometimes don't even get off. Our favorite cruise, so far, has been the 15 day Hawaii cruise from L.A.
Fun to "see" other cruisers from Las Vegas. Nice to see the ocean once in awhile and get rehydrated! :)

Thanks, rednancy, for sending you our way. Hope your parents enjoyed the Monarch. She's about to take her last west coast cruise(10/13). We were on her 9/15 and loved the itinerary as well as the overall excitement on the cruise.. The Monarch will be missed....

I think the holidays would be a perfect time to cruise, since most of our family is away. We have often cruised over Thanksgiving, but never the December holidays. I would in a heartbeat, but DH is a traditionalist!
DH is a consultant, and has his own little company, and can often set his own schedule. He works from home. I am his earstwhile "office manager" and "travel arranger".
Are you retired? We have lots of teachers in the family, and I know it's difficult for them to get away through the year.
Hello, and happy cruising to our fellow Nevadans on this board.

Hello, and happy cruising to our fellow Nevadans on this board.

Yes, I retired several years ago after teaching for nearly 30 years. My husband retired just a few years ago from the gov't. We are both in our late 50's. So we have been enjoying our retirement by trying to cruise at least 2, maybe three times, a year. I can't think of any other way to relax other than to be on the sea with the ocean breeze in my face. And my favorite spot on the ship??? The aft and being hypnotized by the wake of the ship. Talk about nirvana...:) Isn't it Dec. 24th yet....

Thanks for the welcome teach. I don't get to LV as often as I used to. Seemed like I practically lived down there with my previous employer. I get down there about once or twice a year these days for work. My wife and I did attend the Na$car races in March, and we have some acquaintences in the area. Matter of fact some friends from Henderson visited us this past weekend. Sure was cold up here - 40's and 50's during the day and well below freezing at night. Anyway, they froze they're you-know-whats off. Killed off that last of our garden, but it is supposed to return to the mid to upper 70's by weeks end.

My mom said she had a blast on her first cruise 9/29. Sounds like the weather was great, "almost too warm." I told her that the Monarch is a fine ship - too bad she is being relocated - but that she is not really representative of the newer and larger ships that have quite a bit more in the way of amenities. Still, Monarch was always a blast and will miss her like everyone else. Would love to be on her right now, although somewhat bittersweet I imagine being the last cruise out of San Pedro. We are talking about maybe doing the MR on Mariner OTS later next year. Not my first choice in destinations, but we won't have to fly which is a pain in the a$$ these days.

rednancy1- Thanks for putting the link in your signature for our LV thread. We may get more people that way.

Larry and I are getting very excited about our upcoming 14 day Hawaii cruise over Christmas and New Year's. Since the "kids" are all grown and will be away this Christmas with their "other" families(spouses' side), we thought this would be the perfect way to spend the holidays on the high seas...:) It will be our first cruise over Christmas.

I just stumbled on your thread while reading Ricks Monarch PC updates. We are all going to miss her! We are Diamond members and have only sailed with Royal. Yes..we are Loyal to Royal! We've been in Vegas for 12 years but only started cruising in 2000. Now we are truly addicted and try to go twice a year. Retirement is a wonderful thing :) We are leaving on the Radiance next Sunday for the 14 nt EB PC cruise from San Diego to Ft Lauderdale. WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!!
Its nice to know that there are more of us in Vegas that share a love of the sea. I do love the desert...but I can breathe so much easier in the Caribbean!
Sure hope I can find this thread again!

Thanks! I'm kind of new at this...just joined CC last month. I've added this to my favorites. I've been reading some of the other posts. You can tell we live on this side, we've all pretty much cruised to all the same locations on the same ships. We did the Baja run 4 times, twice on the Monarch and twice on the Viking Serenade. We love the smaller ships, you can get to know everyone and all the staff call you by name. But we've heard good things about the Radiance and are really looking forward to spending 2 wks on her. We splurged on a JS. It has a bigger closet! We had planned to book the 15 nt Hawaii out of San Diego for 2010 on the Radiance but they've pulled that one now. Maybe they'll take pity on us and bring it back. :) You'll have to keep us posted on your Princess trip.
Thanks again for the "how to find you" tip.

Didn't I tell you so; and look at you giving PC tips for folks on how to subscribe and/or find this thread again. YOU go girlfriend!!!

To answer your question about Monarch's JS 1550...it was wonderful :) Extremely quiet, large bathroom w/tub, and convenient to the stairs or elevator banks. I would highly recommend this cabin to future cruisers.

Don't know if you've read the Monarch thread lately, but we are in the initial planning stage for a reunion cruise sometime in 2010. Interested? We would love it if you and Larry could join us.

Sorry to 'barge' in on your Las Vegas thread; can I be an honorary member? ;)

Well, hello there, Nonnie. Glad that you enjoyed your JS on the Monarch. We enjoyed your door decorations while going up and down the hallway.
Didn't know about a reunion cruise. For our rollcall from the Monarch 9/15?? Unfortunately, we have already booked a cruise on the Ruby Princess for 2/8/10 that we are traveling with 2 other couples. At this point we are not booking anymore cruises until we find out what is happening with the economy... We hope you all have a great time though and thanks for including us... :)

Hi Everybody!
I was wondering if anyone has tried zip-lining up at Bootleg Canyon? We were wanting to book an excursion in Costa Rica but thought maybe we should try it here at home first. Zipping through a canyon has got to be easier for beginners than through a canopy, right?
I could really use some input!
Check this out www.bootlegcanyonflightlines.com (http://www.bootlegcanyonflightlines.com)
There is even some video on YouTube.
We leave on Saturday so we won't be zipping this time but next year...we'll be ready!
(Unless one of you tell me that its absolutely terrifying and then I'll chicken out!! )

We (8 in our group) did the canopy zip line booked through RC Voyager of the Seas last March when we ported in MoBay. None of us had ever done it before, and we all had a blast. No experience necessary, the staff was great, and felt safe the entire time. Even DW enjoyed it although she doesn't enjoy heights very much. And the scenery was great - lots of vegetation.

Here is a link to some pics we took of the canopy trip -

Thanks for sharing the pix. They're great! We did MoBay last February but opted for DunnRiver Falls. We are going out on the Voyager again next Jan but its a different itinerary this time. (Cozumel, Costa Maya & Roatan). I've heard that zipping in a canopy is difficult because of the narrow landing platforms. Did you have any problems? Did you find that you were so focused on what you were doing that you missed any of the scenery?
There are some wonderful zipline excursions on our crise next week but we didn't book any of them. We thought they might be too tough for us since we are totally inexperienced. Guess we should have booked..what is the worse they could do, laugh at us?! :o They'd have to laugh with me!
We have freinds coming to town next month, I think we are all going to go to Bootleg Canyon and give it a try! We can all be laughed at together!
Thanks again for letting us see your pictures!

Your welcome Brenda. Some of the platforms are narrow, but the staff was very helpful in making sure you landed ok. Not like you could really land anywhere else LOL. And you are always attached to either the zip line or the safety line on the tree platforms so you are not in danger of falling to the ground below. There is always one staff person on the landing deck before the first tourist departs. Seemed like you would naturally slow down as you approached the deck, and they showed you how to "brake" if needed and would let you know if you needed to. We really didn't need to brake except on the last traverse. On the last one, which was quite long and fast, you slowed a little on approach and brake if instructed to. There was quite a bit of padding around the tree that anchored the zipline, but the staff person was very helpful in avoiding any hard landings. And yes, there was some laughter and a bit of good natured teasing by the staff and amongst ourselves which made the entire excursion that much more entertaining.

You really do get to enjoy the scenery during and in between traverses. While you are on the line, you really don't have to do anything other than to hang on to your harness line to keep yourself upright. You could spin around, lean back, bounce, whatever. Or just enjoy the view! Again, you don't need any experience - they do all of the work for you as far as getting you in your harness and hooked up to the zip or safety lines. You just go along for the ride!! I would highly recommend it.

A big welcome to both ssrcmom and CrusinNoony. Glad everyone found us on the boards.
I'm going to go back and tally how many of us are here and our names. Please make sure you've listed your first names and the part of the Vegas area you are from. Larry and I are on the SW side near 215 and Rainbow.

This is so much fun knowing that we live in a desert town and are surrounded by so many sea loving people!!

hi, just found this thread while searching for some other information. we're jeralyn & michael and we're up in summerlin right around the corner from the red rock.
we're getting ready for our coral sailing through the canal. i've done it before this will be michael's first transit. we love cruising and once michael retires we hope to do a few more each year. so many places to cruise so little time and money!!
thanks for starting this up, should be fun exchanging ideas with fellow cruise lovers who find themselves in the desert!

Welcome, Mitch,
Do you actually live in Vegas or visit here a lot? I am a bit confused(nothing new there though).

Lunch Meeting***
Haven't heard from too many of you concerning lunch. I was thinkng maybe Olive Garden or BJ's at the 215/Charleston exit(west side of Vegas).
I have listed rednancy and ssrcom that can make it as well as Larry and myself. Others?? Should we wait until after the holidays?

Let us hear from you.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!

Hey, Nancy,
I just noticed in your signature that you are going on the Mariner for its first sailing to Mexico. We were on the Explorer a few years back and fell in love with the Royal Promenade. So when we found out that RCL was bringing one of the "big ships" over to the west coast, we just had to book her. We are going 10-25-09 to celebrate Larry's b'day. We had been booked on the 4th of Oct., but our daughter just got engaged and she has set her date for the 10th of Oct. Soooo, that made us switch to the 25th.. It all worked out well. We get to celebrate Larry's b'day and I will get a much needed rest after planning this wedding. :)

See you Thursday. Looking forward to it.

We hope to have a future meeting maybe in January or February. Would anyone else be interested in joining us?? We had even discussed maybe having a dinner. Would others be able to come if we had a get-together during dinner time? Let us know please.

I may be a bit absent here due to the fact that my DH and I will be heading to Hawaii in 13 days. But I will check back after we get back or if I do get on the internet onboard, I'll try to post then....

Glad you found us. Have a wonderful time on the Mariner!! We won't be on her until next Oct. 25th, but rednancy1 will be on the first cruise to Mex. out of LA on Feb.22, I guess that will be when you get off. You will have a marvelous time!! Maybe we'll have another get-together in March when rednancy returns and you are back too.
We are about to leave on a 14 day Hawaii cruise over the holidays on the 24th. So you'll be gone by the time we get back.

Our LV group has met once for lunch and hope to plan another get-together for dinner so maybe more people can join us. Now that I have more people's cruising schedules it sounds like the early part of March might work best. How's that time for others that would like to meet up and discuss cruise stories??
Keep the thread going everyone while I'm gone. I'll post again when I return after Jan 7th..

Are we growing or what!!
So glad that you found us! So you teach here in Vegas... Elementary, middle, or HS?? 9 month or year-round? My 30 years were in elem.( all grades, but mostly 4th and 5th in Ohio(4), NJ(20), but only 6 years here in Vegas before retiring in '02.

Our next cruise is not until October. But we fell in love all over again with Maui on our Christmas cruise to Hawaii, so we just booked a condo to spend 10 days there this June to celebrate our anniversary..

It seems our best place to meet for a get-together is somewhere near 215 on the west side. Maybe a week night would be better than a weekend.
Any thoughts on that? Some ideas I had were Famous Dave's BBQ (215 & Flamingo), Olive Garden (215 & Charleston), or we could go back to BJ's next to Olive Garden where we had lunch in Dec. Let me know your thoughts...

Who out there is interested in joining us for dinner sometime in Feb?

And again welcome to the LV group!!

Dinner would be fun. I work full-time Monday through Friday, so evenings or weekends would be good for me.

.......It seems our best place to meet for a get-together is somewhere near 215 on the west side.

Pam

We are available almost any evening. But we are leaving on Feb 21 until the beginning of March for our Mariner cruise. Anytime before that would be great. I'm kind of partial to the Olive Garden.:)

OK, I'm going to just throw out a date and see how many of us chime in that they will be able to go.

How's Feb. 11th Wed. at 6:30?? Olive Garden on Charleston at 215 (west side). Let's hear from you if you can make that date. It is only a suggestion to start.

I'm confused... I thought that you could not make weekend nights due to some type of sports event on Fridays and Saturdays. That is why I went to weekday nights. Is it that you can do only lunch on weekends??

You all sound like a fun group! I am secondary certified and have taught 6-12th grade, with an occasional college class, over the past 20 years. I currently teach 8th grade English at Rogich MS in Summerlin. :) Congrats on teaching elementary (talk about super-human patience!) for 30 years! Hawaii sounds marvelous too--oh, to be retired!

We have three young kids--who so far have stayed with grandparents when we have cruised--and so we are coming and going with lacrosse, soccer, and baseball most nights. So, as far as meeting, don't try to schedule around us... but if it works we would love to be there! :D

It is fun to read all about your travels. We are thinking seriously about a RCCL Liberty cruise in June. Anyone that has an experience on the Liberty, feel free to share. ;)
Lisa

No, you aren't confused, we're just really busy...hehe. We have hockey on some weekend nights but our weeknights are almost always full. With two little ones, its always something during the week but we will certainly work around and try to make ourselves available if a weeknight works best for most.

As the name implies I am from Las Vegas, been here 11 years, originally from CA. My wife and I have been on two cruises HAL Westerdam in 2006 and Carnival Victory in 2008. My wife went on one cruise before we met, 3 day Mexican Riviera with her college friends.

My wife is a teacher and I'm currently between jobs. I have worked in the casinos as a dealer and supervisor and in the insurance field as a property claims adjuster.

We like cruising as a way of evaluating islands as to whether or not we'd like to return and stay there for a week. I love to snorkle and scuba dive, she likes to relax in the sun.

We'd love to meet you all for dinner, I'll check back to make sure the 11th at OG is set or just an idea.

How will we know each other? Are we going to use the secret cruisers sign??

My DW and I live in the red rock area and she has already subscribed to this board (motherofortodoc). We just returned from a 14 day full transit on the Coral princess and have 3 trips planned for the next 18 months, Alaska Inside passage on the Star Princess, a TA from Barcelona to Miami on Azamara Journey and the coastal on the sapphire princess next year. I am this close to retirment.
We usually sail on Princess and fell in love with the Coral. We've done larger ships but did not have the experience we did on the Coral. The crew was the best we've had.

I am looking forward to the Journey Trans Atlantic. We did a Pacific - Hawaii to LA in the beginning of last year. The ship, now the Norweigan Jade was nice, the service anything but. But enough of that!

As I mentioned, we just finished the full transit of the Panama Canal, great trip and a great ship, the Coral Princess.

I wish i was retired. Almost but not quite.

Greetings, I just found this thread with thanks to Pam :)

Yes, I too am from Las Vegas and we are avid cruisers.

Although sounds like most of you live on the West End of town, we are in Green Valley at 215 and Eastern area.

I should be able to make the Feb. 11th at Olive Garden but Tom my DH works till 8 PM or sometimes later and will not be able to make it. He works at McCarren Airport. Myself I am unfortunately unemployed and looking :o I had been a Sub Prime Finance Director at Fletcher Jones Toyota for 14 years till the position was eliminated.
The unemployement is hurting my habit of normally having at least 4 to 5 cruises booked. We were lucky to get in 5 weeks in 2008.

Joe, actually so are we :) We are in Southfork. Turn into Ione you know that stop light every one makes a u-turn at because they want to head North on Eastern after they have come out of the Target parking lot :D When we first moved to Vegas in the late 70's our first home was at Jones and Vegas Drive, then we moved to Cheynne and Torry Pines then in 1993 we moved across the valley to the East side. We love it over here.

Pam Thanks again. I tend to stay on the HAL board since that is what line we cruise the most and occaisionally visit Princess board since we hope to cruise with them soon.

Hello Everyone!

Lisa emailed me about this thread and so I thought I would join up!

We are Bill and Virginia, avid cruisers with 17 ocean cruises and 2 river cruises under our "belts". Our favorite line is HAL and I pretty much hang out on the HAL board.

We've lived here since 1993 when I retired from the USAF (I was stationed here in the 80s). DW retired from the school district in 2006 and I took my second retirement in 2007 from a local law firm. We live about 2 miles south of McCarran, very close to the 215 & Warm Springs interchange.

We've had some HAL CC-board get-togethers over the last few years, with Lisa and Tom and others, but I don't know yet if we can make the Feb 11 dinner. Sounds like a great group! I will post if we can make it!

Welcome Bill and Virginia,
I will thank Lisa for sending you over. So glad that you found us.
It seems that this group is a variation of a lot of cruise lines. My DH and I have been on HAL, Princess, and RCL. Have to say that out of the three that HAL is our favorite, but again we're happiest just to be on the water on any cruise.
Our LV CCers dinner is 2 weeks from today and we would love to have you and Virginia join us. Let me know by the Tuesday(2/10) before. I will be making the reservation for all of us in my name, Pam, at the OG.

Hi Lisa,
When you said the 6th, were you referring to this group? Because we are actually meeting on the 11th of Feb. I didn't want you showing up and be alone.

Since we are getting more east side people, we will definitely meet on the east side in the future. I was even thinking of making our dinner place more central between the Centennial Hills people and the Green Valley people. We are at 215 and Rainbow and there is a Mimi's here. Also Town Square has a Claim Jumper that is very nice too.

We could plan on this in the future or we could change it for this time. Let me know how you all feel.

We are admitted Cruiseaholics !:o Our first cruise was in 1995, a seven day Carnival in the Caribbean with several other friends, and we've been hooked ever since !

We only do the longer cruises now, 14 or 15 days. We have furry freeloading felines that don't like us gone too long ! LOL

We are retired and have lived here in Las Vegas since 1992, having moved here from the Greater Cleveland Ohio area.

Cruise history:
Carnival ~2
RCCL ~3
HAL ~ 4
Celebrity ~ 14

We do a Panama Canal every spring, and a Hawaii RT every Fall. We'll be trying Princess for the first time this fall as Celebrity has dropped Hawaii. One of us doesn't like to fly so Florida is the limit !

We can't make the dinner, sounds like fun ! Everyone have a breadstick for us !

Hi Pam -

I can meet anywhere the group picks. 215 and Durango puts me in the middle like you. Near the Mimi's is also a Sammy's Woodfired Pizza. Same part of the parking lot.

My furry one yells (or perhaps meows very loudly is the more proper phrase) whenever she is home alone for more than a few hours. It seems the longer I am gone the more days she carries on. Oh well, after 18 years I've gotten used to it. Thank goodness for an awesome kennel that is her home away from home.

Jeralyn and Michael, Sorry you won't be able to join us, but hopefully next time....

As for furry friends-----My dad and I have an arrangement where when he and his wife take a vacation, we watch his dog and visa versa, It works out really well until both of us want to leave at the same time or we happen to travel together. Then we resort to the kennel...

OK-- I'm putting out a question about changing our dinner location from Olive Garden to a more central location like Mimi's at Rainbow and 215 or Claim Jumper at Town Square. We can make the change at our next get-together or we can do it for this one. We just have a lot of people joining us from the east side and I thought it might be nice if it was more centralized. Let me know your thoughts, especially rednancy1 and all those from the east side... We still have time to make changes if we want to...

Well if we were to change.... Town Square would work out much better, Mimi's on the West side is actually harder to get to for us SE siders. The OG on 215 is slightly easier beause we can jump on the 215 but going to that end of town I always say I need to pack a lunch. If it is OK, we will plan on Mimi's on the SW side since we do have several people coming from the SE side and the NW side.

This paricular Mimi's has a nice little back area where they can set up a talbe for us. I've been there with my HOA group and it was great. I'm pretty sure they will do separate checks too. I will check.

Sorry that we won't be joining you at Mimi's Cafe on Feb. 11. We live on the west side of town, close to the Olive Garden, but going to Rainbow and 215 at rush hour is just a little too far for us.

Hopefully the next time it will be more convenient for the westsiders. By the way, there is a Mimi's Cafe on Charleston and Ft. Apache that would have been much closer and easier for us to get to.

I would think the traffic would be worst for those coming from the east than those coming from the west. 215 west bound is bad until you get to Durango. I would think the eastbound traffic from the Summerlin area to Rainbow would be a breeze.

And if we're meeting at 6:30 traffic on most roads not called 15 North would not be an issue.

Mimi's is fine by me.

Just a heads up that getting from Summerlin to 215 and S. Rainbow is easy even at night. The traffic buildup starts past Rainbow no matter the time of day.

Yes, this is true... The traffic coming from Summerlin (South and east bound) is bad in the mornings . In the evenings the increased traffic is going home and that is west then northbound. So getting off at Rainbow would not present a problem. The Southwest is really an in between meeting ground for those that live in the SE and the NW. I was just trying accommodate everyone so no one had to go from SE to NW (or visa versa) which is what would have happened it we met at the Olive Garden at 215 and Charleston or anywhere on or around Eastern.

lvellen-We hope you change your mind and can make the dinner.:) Would love to meet all the Las Vegas cruisers that can make it.

We will be there!:)

For those of you coming from Summerlin it is easier to get off on Buffalo and take the access road East and then take the first right into the shopping area. It is down about 2 blocks and you will see Mimi's. It is better to do this than go all the way to rainbow and then back track. We actually take this way and we come from Jones. Just quicker and easier.

Not sure yet if Steven will be with us or not, I will let you know. Nice to see the group is growing!

Oh, thank you for that idea. I had forgotten about the Buffalo exit and the frontage road to access the shopping center right by the restaurants. Great idea for all those coming from Summerlin.
Those coming from the east / Henderson, you can get off at Buffalo (the next exit after[west of] Rainbow), turn left, go across 215 and onto the frontage road going east and make the first right into the shopping center and the restaurant. You'll see Mimi's in the back corner along with Sammy's and Chili's.
Thank you, Susan for that suggestion. Let me know and I'll include Steven in the total reservation when I make it.

For those using these directions, the right turn from the Frontage road is Tenaya, I believe. I drove past it on the freeway so with squinting, I think that's Tenaya. You'll recognize it because in front of you is the huge shopping center sign. If you pass it, the next drive way is on the backside of the Sam's Club gas station.

Hi,

I just found this sight. We live in the Centennial Hills area. We have lived in Vegas for over 10 years. We are originally from Chicago. My husband is retired and I am still working.

We just got off the Adventure a couple of weeks ago and have one booked again for next January. We are avid RCI cruisers. We did the Hawaii r/t from San Diego in October, I loved it.

Saw your dinner night, we will not be able to make it. But maybe some other time.

I know I certainly could not move back to Iowa with the weather they have been having especially this winter :D We actually missed the snow we had here in December we were in the Caribbean on the Eurodam :)

Hi everyone! We are also Vegas cruisers here - from the way northwest side of town (95 & durango)
We are Dave (jetwet1) and Jenn (me)
Dave has been on too many cruises to count (growing up, his father worked for the cruise lines), and I have been on 8 cruises total (HAL, RCI, Carnival, Princess)
just yesterday our next cruise was booked - the parents are taking all of us (including grandkids) on Sapphire Princess in May - we are so excited!

We would love to join you all for dinner to get to know fellow local cruise addicts (wait, are we the only addicts? I hope not!), but we both work graveyard, and will be asleep tomorrow at 6:30 PM. Hopefully there will be a time that we have the night off, and can join in on another dinner, or perhaps a lunch time get together?

I will bookmark this thread, and try to get caught up on all the posts pretty soon...have to head off to bed now, for work tonight.

Looking forward to meeting you all hopefully soon!!

Welcome Ruth and Bert (jmezmom) and to Dave and Jenn (jetwet1 and jennglux). Glad that you found us .
Could you let me know if you are going to join us one way or the other definitely by tomorrow morning. I want to call ahead and get a reservation for all of us. It will be in my name, Pam.

Right now we have a definite 8 coming. The address of the Mimi's at 215 and south Rainbow 7315 Arroyo Crossing Pkwy. LV, NV 89113 for those wanting to do a Mapquest.
But we had suggested here to come in off Buffalo exit off 215 and take frontage road heading east (toward Strip) and take street to right where the restaurants are and into the parking lot where Mimi's sits in the back SE corner (near Sammy's Woodfired Pizza and Chili's).
Either way, we will see anyone coming at 6:30. I will call Mimi's to make the reservation after lunch tomorrow and ask for a large table for 8 (or more if you all can make it).

Hope everything is OK with Nancy and Dan. We missed you...

Hey, everyone, how about telling us, considering where you all live (which is all over the valley), where would be the most central place you would like to meet?

We have people all the way up in the NW by Centennial Hills and then way on the SE side by Eastern and Horizon Ridge. I may have remembered that someone even lives out by Boulder Hwy, not sure.

Do we just rotate and have get-togethers sometimes in the NW and sometimes in the SE or do we find a more central spot and hope we get enough people to meet in the middle? I'm open to suggestions.

I am sorry I didn't wasn't able to be at the group dinner at Mimi's.:(

My beautiful mother, 89 passed away. I was unable to fly to the east coast because of my compromised immune system. So I'm still here in LV. Friends have come over and taken us out to dinner, etc. We plan to fly east in the spring when we scatter her and my fathers ashes on the beach where they met in 1936. She had my fathers ashes in a bookcase for years. Too funny.

A funny story about my mother. Two days before she died she woke up at the hospice unit , looked at my sister and said, "Oh crap, I'm still here." Yes. that's my mother. :-) She couldn't wait to check out. :-)

We're sailing on Sunday on the Mariner. :)

Nancy, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. Please accept our sympathies...It sounds like she was quite a special lady... But it sound like she was definitely ready to go..

Please have a wonderful time this next week on the Mariner. Please come back and tell us all about her maiden voyage to the Mex. Riv.:)

I am sorry for your loss and understand. My Mom will be gone 2 years in April at the young age of 76. But I know she is happy that she is with Dad who has been gone 27 years.

Have a great time on your cruise. Have never been on the Mariner, but have on two of her sister ships, the Voyager & Adventure. Maybe we will get on her since she is now close to home.

Bon Voyage:)

We're driving to San Pedro tomorrow. We drop the dogs off at the doggie sitter's house at 9am and we're on our way to the Doubletree Marina for one night. :):)

Then we meet up with 35 CC folks at the Acapulco Mexican restaurant for dinner in San Pedro. :)

I am so thrilled. I just found a residency rate for our b2b Radiance cruise in Sep/Oct. It was so good that I rebooked us into a Grand Suite instead of the usual Jr Suite. This one is very unique as it has a balcony the size of a ballroom.:eek: We're sailing with friends who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary so I plan to do some entertaining. :)

We just stumbled across this thread. We live in Las Vegas - in the Centennial Hills area.

We love to cruise at least once a year. We have sailed on Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity and Holland America. We recently returned from a fantastic Mediterranean transatlantic. We are going on our first European River Cruise (Uniworld) in a couple months. Next year, we have the Galapagos booked on Celebrity.

Glad we found you!

OMG!!! How did I never find this! As you can see from my signature I've been a passenger and a crew member. I live in GV near Horizon Ridge & Arroyo Grande. However at the moment, and hopefully for awhile, I am out on the national tour of the Broadway musical, Xanadu. We're supposed to be in Chicago through April, Tokyo the month of May then tour the US. But I hope to get back and meet you all one day soon. Lisa Laffin & I are friends too from here. I also had the joy of meeting many CC'rs on the Eurodam Inaugural when I worked it.

Sounds like you are a very busy person!! We will definitely plan a dinner on your side of town this summer when you are home again. I think that is when you are here.

As of 2/23 if you PURCHASED a next cruise cert. anytime prior to Dec. 31st it is now combineable with the balcony discount, next cruise OBC and shareholder credit.

They just revised it and it will stay in effect until all NC certs. are redeemed that were purchased prior ro dec. 31st.

If you have any reservations you made using a NC cert. since Jan 1st and are eligible for more than 1 of the above benefits CALL C&A and get your $$$$$!

Do check with Celebrity!

The hump cabins are the ones at the center/middle of the ship. They bow out in a half circle. there are 2 or 4 that are dead center and a few on either side that complete the bowed circle.

On a hump balcony you can look forward and backward for the view. Those in a regular balcony can only see one direction as the hump cabins block their view.

Also, they are a prime location, right off the elevators around the corner so they are completely quiet but are close to the elevator to get up to the WJ and pool and down to the DR and promenade.

They are so awesome on the voyager and radiance class, have never had one on another class.

Well, we "survived" 46 days "Around the Horn" on the Mariner of the Seas! Made it back home a week ago today and then managed to catch a cold...oh well.

It was an amazing voyage...and I am not exagerating when I say the weather was fantastic. We had a little rain in Ushuaia and maybe a day and a half of "bouncy" seas otherwise it was calm seas, even at Cape Horn. The Captain, Cruise Director and several officers even went off the ship in a rescue boat to visit the Chilean Navy Family who man the Lighthouse. If you take a cruise on the Mariner of the Seas and have Captain Johnny onboard you are in for a real treat! He was having as much fun as the passengers as well as doing a fantastic job handling this large vessel.

Sure has been a shock having to shop, cook and clean again...keep opening kitchen cabinets trying to remember where everything is:D

Welcome to all the folks that posted while we were gone...now that we are home for a while (except for a 7 day Mex Riv on the Mariner in May and PC on the Coral Princess in 1/10) we hope to make one of the dinners.

Ruth..we live in Sun City Anthem, Tall Mesa Village and we LOVE it here! Anyone else on this board from SCA or SC MacDonald Ranch (where we used to live)? Also, we are in our 60's, as you guessed by now.

Barb,, what a great adventure..46 days! We were fortunate to meet Captain Johnny and the Mariner staff and crew last weekend. We were fortunate to be invited on the 2 day (Fri-Sun) pre-inaugural..right after you brought the ship to LA. It is a beautiful ship and we had a great time..but much too short to enjoy all the ship offers! While Jim went to sleep, I spent late nite time in the Schooner Bar singing with Angelo and the others. What a fun place to be in the wee hours! I hope to get back on Mariner later this year. You are so lucky to have done the Horn cruise!

BTW..does this group meet here in the Vegas area at any time? Just wondering. Off to bed, another busy weekend coming up!

Welcome!! Glad to have more and more on this board. We have several people from the Henderson area as well as the Centennial Hills area. Even a couple of us in the middle in the SW near 215. So we are all spread out over the valley.
Yes, we have gotten together 2 times before, once for lunch at BJ's near 215 and Charleston before the holidays and once for dinner at Mimi's near 215 and Rainbow a few weeks ago. We've talked about another get-together and taking turns being on the east side and then the next time being on the NW side.
Anyone on the eastside of town, please feel free to step up and set a time and a place for an upcoming east side get-together. The people on the Henderson side would be more familiar with what is there than I would know, even though I know The District area (near 215 and Green Valley Pkwy) where there are a lot of restaurants to pick from. Lisa(Laffnvegas) is on that side. Maybe you guys could get together on a place and a time and the rest of us can see if we can make it.

As far as the Mariner- my DH and I go in Oct. to celebrate his birthday and can't wait to enjoy the ship. Don't know if we'll even get off...:)

Hi everyone! I am glad I found this thread! We live in Henderson, in the Green Valley area. I am rare native, born and bred here in Las Vegas. My hubby is originally from Akron, Ohio. We both love to cruise. Have been cruising since our honeymoon back in '94. Only on RCI, though. It just seems to always work out that way. We really like their product so I guess you could say we are loyal to royal. We are booked on the Mariner in June. I know a few of you will be on her before that- I am eager to hear your reports! (Especially the menus). We have 3 little ones, 10, 8 and 4. Mariner will be their first cruise.

I am a teacher also. 8th grade English at Silvestri JHS. Love it! Best job in the world, except I have to vacation during the on season. Oh well. I would love to get together and meet at the next dinner. Weekends tend to work better for us; school nights are busy times.

Looking forward to getting to know my new cruisin' neighbors!

Thanks Lisa - we didn't know this thread existed either!! We live near Wigwam and Arroyo Grande and are very devoted HAL cruisers. Since I am a realtor, business has been a little spotty (to say the least), but things are really cookin' in the under $200k market, so there is some "light at the end of the future cruises tunnel" so to speak. I am warming up the searches for another 10 or 11 day Southern Carribean cruise for this coming fall. We look forwrd to meeting you all sometime in the very near future - the results of those kinds of get-togethers usually means a very busy next day for HAL!!

Welcome and thank you for adding out link to your signature. That is how a lot of people have found this thread.

I've been hoping that someone on the SE/Henderson side would start plans for a get-together over there. The District would still be accessible for most people since it is just off Green Valley Pkwy and 215. Now we just need a suggestion from someone that lives there and a date and a time and we will set up a new get-together with all these newcomers. We'll do this upcoming dinner over on the SE and then our next one will be on the NW side. That way we are making an effort to meet near everyone since we are spread out over the valley.

So the people on the SE side, let's hear from you on when you want to meet again and where(restaurant)....

Glad that we are advertising our existence to all the CCers on all the different cruiseline boards just with it being in our signature.

How about the Cheesecake Factory? There is one literally off the 215 at Green Valley. Dates are a little tougher for me right now. Have a lot going on for the next few weeks- sister visiting, wedding, chaperoning a trip to Disneyland for school. I am pretty tied up until the first week of April. If you all would rather not wait that long, I'll catch you on the next get together. Or Friday, March 20. Actually, the weekend of March 13 and 14 are open for me too.

Everyone else? What do you all think?

Cheesecake Factory sounds great to us. 3/13, 3/14, or 3/20 are all fine for us too. Dinner works out better for us. We may be retired, but we are finding our days filled of late with doctor's appts. for family members. So lunches can be "iffy".

I love Cheesecake Factory and Friday and Saturday work well for us because Tom is off work those days. But.....Unless we do a late afternoon say 4 PM it is always very crowded at Cheesecake Factory and doubt they would make reservations for our group. Although I could be wrong. I am thinking an afternoon almost works better. The economy has not really slowed down this paticular restaurant.

The other problem with CF is that when they are busy it is very very noisy and hard to hear when sitting with a group. Unless you do go when it is not busy.

Isn't the Claim Jumper around there too? Would it be as bad when it comes to getting in and seated with a large group or the noise level on a Friday or Saturday night???

Yes the Claim Jumper is on the other side of the freeway (North side) and I have held several HAL Board CC Get Togethers at that location. It does work quite well and is not that noisy.

Another choice could be Elephant Bar, but it too can be noisy and difficult at night. It's across the street from CF, closer to Green Valley Ranch, but also part of The District. PF Chang's is also there. We are available to meet any Friday, Saturday or Sunday, afternoon or early evening, except for 3/15. Would a Sunday be better to consider than a Friday or Saturday night? Another favorite of ours is Mimi's on Stephanie, next to Sunset Station. Just a few more suggestions.

BTW, Barb, we lived on High Mesa just south of Horizon Ridge before moving to Anthem. Had the Phoenix model. Our home here is very similar..perfect for the two of us.

We can't decide on next cruise yet..so much to consider. New ships on the west coast to Mexico, Eastern Caribbean that Jim has not been to, just me, or back to Canada/NE which we really loved and want to see more of. We both dream of Med and TA's but not this year. Would love to hear all your stories from all your cruise experiences.

Looking forward to a get-together and meeting everyone!

I like Claim Jumper. Saturdays or Sundays evenings are better for us. Fridays are good if it is 7ish or later- don't know if that is too late for everyone. Afternoons- even weekends-are difficult because of the many soccer, t-ball, etc. games, and of course, during the week, we are all in school.

Early weekend evenings are our first choice.

Of course, please don't feel you guys have to schedule aorund us. I know our schedule is very tight. If we can make it, we will join you and if not, we will try to catch you next time!

We are just off the Mariner and had the best cruise ever thanks to the wonderful Cruise Critic people we met. I think we now have some new best friends forever!!! :) We totally bonded in the Concierge Lounge. :D

We can meet the weekend of Mar 13-14. The 19-23 we have a house guest from the east coast who isn't into all this. Almost any other evening is okay with us. :)

Happy to be home with the dogs. :)

Nancy, don't keep us in suspense! Tell us all the details for the Mariner on the west coast!!! Formal nights? Menus? Any changes in activities that you could see? We wil be on the Mariner this summer. Taking the kids on a cruise for the first time and we are getting not only a balciny, but an at balcony for the parental units (us). :D Can't wait!

Actually, we were originally booked for June 21 but had to change that today to August 2 because I just won a major award at work and the reception/conference that I have to go to for it is on June 28. So, we were lucky enough to change and managed to keep our cabins!!! I certainly wasn't expecting that- we have the aft balcony right next to an inside. I think there are very few of these cabin set ups, so when the RCI agent said she had it on August 2, I said BOOK IT! She even said I was lucky to get it not once but twice. The fates have decreed that we go on the cruise and get the best possible cabins for our family, apparently.

My niece and I are going on a short cruise over Spring Break on the Elation. It will be her first cruise, and my 7th. We're both really excited to be going.

The last time we got together at Mimi's we just did Dutch Treat with separate checks. Anyone that has been there know if Claim Jumper is OK with this?? Maybe Lisa?

Donna, just noticed that you are a teacher too. Our daughter teaches 6th grade English at Harney Middle School and she also mentioned the CRTs. This is her last week before going on maternity leave. She is due to have another little girl in the next few weeks.
That would be the only thing that might interfere with our dinner on the 14th, if she ended up having the baby then.

Pam, Yes Claim Jumper will do seperate Checks :) We had a group of 25 one time with no problems. But they did add on the 15% gratuity to each of our seperate bills which was OK we just did not have to leave an additional tip. Add something we just need to look at when we all pay.

Thanks, Lisa.. That helps a lot. We'll just keep the added tip in mind when checking our individual bills.

Is 5:00 OK with everybody else that is planning on coming??

Hi...

I'm at Nate Mack Elementary...5th grade Science and Social Studies. We started CRTs yesterday, and I'm already pooped! We still have another week of this fun.

5:00PM works for us on 3/14 at Claim Jumpers. Looking forward to meeting everyone! How do we recognize each other..wear red? or what? Once we have a count, will someone call for a reservation (if they take them)?

If we know the name of the person making the reservation, we can just ask to hostess that 'we are there for their table'....:)

Hi everyone --- am sorry to say Fred and I will not be able to make it as we have our annual St Patricks Day dinner with friends that night. (We only have week-ends off so need to celebrate it on Saturday).

Will definitely look forward to meeting you all at the next one.

We are preparing for our European River Cruise next month (our first one). I am really having a challenge with my packing in only one bag each. Anyone have any good packing ideas for me? We will be gone for 3 weeks (pre & post cruise and 14-day cruise).

Cheers,
Carol

So who all is going next Sat., 3/14, Claim Jumper, 215 and Green Valley Pkwy at 5 pm???

We hope to make it, but right now have DH'd mom in the hospital and daughter is due to deliver her 2nd baby girl anyday. One of those may stand in our way, but plan to come otherwise...

I am going to say tentatively yes, David and I will be there. I still have to call the sitter, but she is usually available. Look forward to meeting everyone!
