View Full Version : Why not have a Sticky about HAL's alcohol policy and avoid the repetitive questions?

Unless I am misinformed, HAL's current policy is that passengers may bring unlimited wine and/or champagne aboard. Any bottles brought into the dining areas are subject to a $15 corkage fee. No beer or liquor is allowed to be brought on board for consumption on the ship.

There are so many repetitive threads started about this, why not get an official statement from HAL outlining their alcohol policy and just post a sticky here with that info?

Sounds sensible to me. However, HAL's dress code and smoking policies also seems perfectly well articulated to me. Both result in endless threads. :)

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that if everything that should/could be made a sticky were in fact to be made a sticky, then most (if not all) of page one would be a sticky.

Kind of defeats the purpose if the entire page gets skipped over.

Perhaps that makes too much sense? After all, what would happen to this board if people couldn't ask the same question over and over...and over...again!?!

We'd also need a sticky for the dress code, smoking, and let's see, what else?

Why would you go through the effort to do that.

NO ONE WILL READ IT.

THEY WILL JUST POST A THREAD

As they do now...

And it just wouldn't be as much fun for some people if they were denied the opportunity to share their answers/opinions/judgements over and over and over and over....;) and over and over...

let's see, what else?

My favorite topics to add to the list:
1. early flights out of FLL,
2. I heard that HAL is only for old people
3. How to get an upgraded cabin

any others that seem to be asked daily?

We just were on the Rotterdam, we purchased all kinds of alco lhol in the ports, beer, wine, whisky, volka etc. We had no problem bringing it on board in each port. We had a refrigerator in our room. So whatever the policy is, it may not apply to every ship and port.

I'm sorry to disagree. The policy does in fact apply to every ship, every trip.

Agreed. The fact is that sometimes the policy is ignored, but it is still the policy. There's no predicting when it will be applied to you, or let go.

4. Will my kids be entertained/happy?
5. Will I get seasick on this cruise...?
6. How much do drinks cost onboard?
7. Are jeans OK for formal night? (oops, I guess that falls under the dress code sticky)
8. Should I get a verandah?

I could go on and on...

Maybe a reason for so many repetitive questions is the fact that people don't use the "search" option. Now I'm finding that when I have a question that probably was asked before, I plug it into search this thread option and voila, there are all the threads with regard to that subject. I wasn't using this feature as much as I should have but now I know better. :)

These are my thoughts exactly.

The mother of all annoying threads
"Tell Me Why I Should Sail Holland America"

Whenever I see that type of question, I'm tempted to say - "Don't even consider Holland America, because if you need to be convinced to sail with a particular cruise line, don't bother. Besides, if you don't go on a HAL ship, it leaves a cabin available for me!"

Thanks for letting me vent.

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

Have a FAQ list at the top of the tread for each cruise line. If the answer isn't available you can ask a NEW question but it will cost you a $. That would reduce the endless duplications about all those topics mentioned above. You would actually have to research the question.
And on the ROLL CALLS prohibit the enless personal correspondence about your aunt Nellies bathroom habits and which motel is closest to the pier.
NOW FLAME ME!

IMO, if there were no repetitive threads, there would be no CC. ;)
