I just booked this 10 day itinerary. Looks interesting to me.
I have not cruised on the Volendam before and will have to compare it to the recent cruises that I have taken on the Ryndam and Zuiderdam.
I booked an outside cabin without a balcony. On the prior cruises I had a balcony. I will have to see if this affects my overall opinion of the cruise.

You didn't mention where you're cruising to, which is important in evaluating the need (or benefit) of a balcony.

I will be in the Caribbean.
I do know that the balcony is great for me on any cruise.
However, I am not willing to pay the large difference on this cruise.

And the Caribbean is where you need it least, IMO. Not much to look at except blue water (which is fine to look at, I might add!). The weather, also a consideration when thinking about a balcony, is much less of a problem in the islands, too. You've made the right choice, I think.
