We are sailing on the Veendam Nov 9 from Tampa. Suggestions for reasonably priced overnight accomodations in the area would be appreciated. The port site seems to list only hotels in the $200 and up category. Thanks

Try the woodfin suites, http://www.woodfinsuitehotels.com/ we have used them twice and been very happy. About 125.00 a night, with a full kitchen sitting room and bedroom set up. Also transport to the pier, and free parking. Good Luck!

Hi,

If you could define 'reasonable', it might help others to help you out.

As for hotels, anything downtown or near the pier is going to cost. Hotels in the pier area are: Marriott Waterside, Embassy Suites, Hyatt, Courtyard by Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, Howard Johnson's, Sheraton, Westin.

In Ybor City (about 2 miles from pier) are a Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Don Vicente de Ybor.

The Tampa International Airport area also has many hotels.

There are also numerous hotels/motels throughout the Tampa area but unless the hotel provides transportation, you'll need a car.

Hope this helps.

Why don't you pick out a few and then come back and let us know what they are and those of us who live in this area might be able to tell you if it is a good or bad choice? Good part of town or a place you should stay clear of. There are just so many here and we don't know your price range. However I do know for sure you will like the Veendam, did that a couple of years ago and they treated us royally.:D We want to help. We just need you to help us, help you:)

Thanks to all for your advice. We live near Cocoa Beach and will be driving to the Veendam the day before we sail for a reunion. We don't need anything fancy for a hotel/motel, nor does it need to be real close to the pier. A plus would be free, safe parking at the hotel for the 7 days but that isn't a must since it seems that parking at the pier is available but a little pricey. We are used to the cheap motels on I-95 heading north each summer but suppose that anything up to about $125 would work for us. Thanks again.

We used the Marriott not far from the pier. I think it was called the Marriott Waterside. It was a very nice hotel. I think we paid around $140 for the night.

are you planning to spend the night again when you return?

That would be close to the port and a nice place. Also, I just looked at their website and they say that they have resident rates. However you would have to call them about the parking. The garage parking for the port is just across the street, very easy. However you will have to pay.

We have stayed at Marriott Waterside several times and enjoyed it just fine. It's very near the dock. We are walkers and love the area nearby for our walks. Safe, clean, near some shopping/some restaurants.

My Mom and I stayed at the Doubletree Guest Suites Tampa Bay, it's not in Ybor city - but about 15 minutes away. It was nice and it usually has a good deal going on. FYI - Tampa is easy to get around and if you're up to driving instead of cabbing it, I believe it was Avis that has a location at the airport and one right near the port. They'll arrange to pick up or deliver rental cars to the port.

We are also going on the same cruise and will be staying in Tampa a night before cruise and one night after. We plan on just renting a car at the end of trip. Thanks for the Avis suggestion, we will check that out.
We would like to find a nice hotel where there a few things, such as resturants and maybe shops, that are easy to walk to or find a trolley to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We are intending to do a Caribbean cruise out of Tampa next year and just now, doing research on hotels for one night prior to embarkation. As we will arrive in Tampa early evening, we only need a reasonably priced hotel for sleeping overnight. I read somewhere that the Holiday Inn Express at Rocky Point also provides a pick-up service from the airport to their hotel, then takes you to the port the following morning. Will they also collect you from the port and take you to the airport on the day of dis-embarkation? Can anyone tell me if they have used this, seemingly, excellent service - or did you find it more bother than it's worth? Thanks.

We're on the Veendam 12/7/08 and we're driving from Daytona the day before. The best deal we've found so far is at the Hampton Inn at Rocky Point. The "Tampa Cruise Package" rate is $139 and includes room, hot breakfast and parking for the duration of the cruise in a safe location. The hotel has its own shuttle which will bring you to the pier on the day of the cruise and pick you up when you return. I found that some of the other hotels that claimed they included transportation to and from the pier merely gave you a $20 voucher rather than having a shuttle of their own. I also found that talking to the Hampton Inn directly during business hours is the most effective method for getting this package.
