We're going on a repositioning cruise from Vancouver to San Diego for 4 nights on Sept. 30. Just wondering if black pants and nice top (ladies) are good enough for dinners in the dining room on this cruise.
Do you really need dresses for this short itinerary?

I'm guessing there will be a formal night. But your black pants and nice top should be just fine.

Is there a formal night. If so, you may want to bring a sparkly top and some floaty black pants. Otherwise, you should be fine.

I'm on this cruise too, and we just got the travel contract in the mail. It says, "four casual nights". I assume that means no formal nights. Correct?

When we were originally booked on this cruise I asked about formal nights and was told there weren't any. Of course, that's always subject to change.

I am also on this cruise. There are three formal nights, with the first being on 9/25. So that means there will be at least one formal night while you're on board (before San Diego). The helpful lady I spoke with at HAL said the other two formal nights would be determined by the Capt.

Hope this helps! :)

Checking this cruise, there are 2 sea days before you get to San Diego. There should be at least 1 formal night.

A fancy top with your black pants will do.

I think AKbeaglemom is mistaken. There is no way a 4 day cruise has 3 formal nights. Last time I did Holland repositioning cruise (LA to Vancouver) there were NO formal nights. That said, it's best to be prepared, because even info from HAL office may not match what happens on board. OP's suggested outfit should be fine for formal night. At most there will be ONE.

I think you may be talking about the Ryndam that leaves on the 24th. If I am not mistaken the Sept. 30th cruise is on the Oosterdam for 4 nights. I will be on it as well. I am guessing one formal night, but I will be thrilled without one!

I'm on this cruise and the documents say 4 casual, no formal.

Oops! Sorry for the confusion. It appears the OP is on a different ship!

We were on the Ryndam on the way up (San Diego - Vancouver) in May. There was 1 formal night. Your clothing for the other nights will be just fine. We found the cruise to be very very choppy (12-15 ft seas). I hope you have a smoother ride. Other than that...the cruise was SUPER!
