I noticed a list of top 10 cruise ships by cabin and HAL did not have one ship on the list. In fact, I have never seen a HAL ship on any CC top ten list. Is it by CC member numbers? If so, I guess few cruise on HAL.

I don't understand what you mean by "top 10 cruise ships by cabin "  Where did you see this list?

Ratings only reflect the opinions of those making them. Just like movie and book reviews. I pay little attention to either.

John - It's "Cruiser's Choice Polls" on the CC Home page under Reviews.

That's interesting. I certainly pay attention to what people have to say about their experiences. Because of things that have been posted, I know that I'll never sail on NCL or Costa. Not that there's anything wrong with these lines, but they don't appeal to me.

Thanks! :D Now back to Jade13's original question: on the bootom of that page there's a link to an "explanation of ratings" which says:
Cruise Critic Cruisers' Choice Poll
Rankings are based on ratings given by our members in published member reviews.
Ships must have a minimum number of member reviews and ratings in a particular category in order to be included in that category's top 10 list.So maybe we just don't write enough "published reviews", and prefer to just post them on this forum?

Yes indeed - it's a numbers game. Member reviews are interesting reading but I wouldn't make a cruise selection based on them.:p:p

I certainly have been on CC for years and spend MUCH time here but have never voted. If I am an example, I guess some (many ?) of us HAL CC'ers don't need to see our ships on lists. I barely glance at them....don't know why.
I form my own opinion of which ships I like and why/why not.

There was a time when I did write "official" reviews -- that was a very long time ago.
When I mentioned something here or on Princess that I had written a review -- very few or no repsonses!!
So I just ended up writing everything here -- and of course getting flamed!! (Usually from people who have sailed only a couple of times :p )

I just want to say that I appreciate you being on this board and I've got a lot of good info from you. Drives me crazy when people say everything is beautiful. I want to hear from someone that is a realist, not from someone who puts you down anytime a person says anything slightly negative.

Err.... cabins are on ships. No? I know on which ships in which cabins I wish to sail. Good?
Sorry to be upsetting. :)

If you look at each of HAL's ships rating they are all very high.
They may not meet the needs of all cruisers they meet the needs of the loyal HAL cruisers

There are lists of many categories, a ship that may rank high overall may not get super high ratings in any one category. On a ship for two weeks, I want more than one or two items to be very good and the rest to be good, even if not in the top ten.
NOTE: The top food and service rankings are mostly small ships that cost 3 or 4 times the average. Many would rather take 2 good cruises to 1 that offered superb food and service, and spend the balance living better the rest of the year.

The OP asked about "ships by cabin", but the polls cover a lot more about all things to do with "ships"...
Why all the SHOUTING at S7S?
