LuckyD and I'llbecruisin, my husband and I were booked on the cruise but had to cancel recently due to an unexpected death in the family. We too were set to leave on October 07th for Santiago.
I would really appreciate it if you could report back here about the cruise and specifically about the ports of Robinson Crusoe, Easter island and Pitcairn Island as those we have not been to yet. We are hoping to re-book the same itinerary in the future. You are going to have a fabulous time! Safe journey!
Thanks,
Pat

Canadagel, Sorry to hear about the death in your family. I will report back on the cruise. Let's hope we make it into all the ports. I hear some are iffy if weather conditions aren't exactly right.

I was on this cruise from LA to Costa Rica. My parents are going to Easter Island, etc. I'm wondering if the weather is cooperating and if you are able to get off at all of the Islands. Would love an update!

Yes, I was wondering too how the cruise is going. I know that internet service in that area can take forever to download and send if it co-operates so we may not hear anything until closer to Tahiti or even after people get home.

Well, we didn't make Easter Island or Pitcairn. This meant 9 1/2 days at sea!
In Easter Island the seas were too rough to tender in to the main town, so the captain went to the other side of the island. The seas were cooperating, but the dock was not. The captain sent a tender to shore, just to find out the dock had been damaged in a storm. So, all we saw of Easter Island was what we could see when we circled the island.
Pitcairn was also a no-go because of weather. About half of the island (about 30 residents) were able to come on board to sell wares. This was quite interesting to talk to the locals. There was quite a buying frenzy. Also, one lady stayed on for the duration of the cruise and gave a nice talk with photos of the island.
All of this was taken in stride and overall it was a fun, relaxing cruise. The magician on board dubbed it a "dive by" cruise. You sail to the islands and just drive by.

How dissapointing that the seas were not co-operating for you! What currency were the Pitcairner's taking for their wares, New Zealand dollars or US dollars? What about Robinson Crusoe Island? Did you enjoy yourself there? Thanks for posting back.

The Pitcairn residents took US dollars for their goods. We were only in Robinson Crusoe for a half a day. There were no shore excursions, plus it rained for part of the time. It was a pretty little island. We walked around and walked up a big hill to get a view of the island. There were beautiful flowers, an old fort, and seals in the harbour.

At least you made it to Robinson Crusoe Island. We have re-booked the same itinerary for next February on Regent. Just couldn't wait to see when SS was doing the same ports again. We'll adjust our expectations of stopping but hopefully the weather will co-operate. Thanks for reporting back and I'll be sure to be at the forefront of the buying frenzy in order to get something. We'll just be thrilled to talk to the Pitcairn Islanders. I read on a report that the woman that got onboard and showed you the pictures was the descendant of Fletcher Christian's granddaughter. See below:
Thanks again!
